Returning to the past, the fated day draws close

Mea Maxima Culpa

A/N - Haha, did i surprise you all with a sudden chapter on the car accident? ^^ Well, this chapter delves into each POV and how the characters react to the accident! Enjoy~

@reilsm - Yeah, Ji-yun is probably the opposite to Ji-eun in terms of selflessness and a caring attitude. I mean she even admitted it in the lat chapter. But she does have a reason for the way she acts~ And yup, those four people were Ji-eun, Ji-yun, Sanghyun and Hyo Jin. Hyo Jin was lying on the ground at the taxi stand (no taxis there yet) and when she collapsed, Ji-eun went over to check on her. That's when the car accident happened.

@ainnurdoongie - lol, getting further away from my goal huh. Kekeke, you gonna kill me? *innocent eyes* but if you do, then i'll never be able to update~ haha sarangehae you as well!!! (unless of course you marry sanghyunnie, then the weapon will be in my hand) Haha, maybe i should introduce Sanghyun's mysterious twin or clone so that we can both get married to one!!! Lol, too much in-characterization from your story~ Maybe i'll get possessed by Ji-yun as well ^^

@thunbii - Haha, glad it was all a surprise! But i'm glad you could sorta see from Ji-yun's point of view. The main aim of this story is portray how everyone is at fault somehow, but they all have reasons behind their actions. Anyhoo~ hugs for liking my characters!!! New chapter is here~

@wookielove - Looking forwards to your update~ I'll comment like hell when it comes out!!!

@ImaVIPbaby - woot~ comment!!! Haha, sorry for it being scary to your heart (blame it on my overactive mind) but i'm sure you'll enjoy the thrills and chills! Thanks for the love tho!!!

@HanSang - Haha if it's that difficult to choose, you should just watch/read both at the same time! Like minimize both screens so they fill half the page of your comp and then watch/read side by side!!! Anyhoo~ Surprised at the car crash plot? Well i guess i could've gone on more about their lil love story, but there's more action to be had! Writing the main action-y bit right now!!! But yup, you were right. Sanghyunnie was never really at fault for the car crash, but he blamed himself for not preventing it >< Poor baby. As for Ji-yun, i'll be showing more sides from her soon! And about idol manager, sigh, yeah i heard SINAQ was subbing, but they're pretty slow this time. Not sure if it's their usual pace (BISS usually gets them out in one week). Oh well, maybe i'll just give up being patient and watch the raw version~

Thanks to everyone for the rush of comments!!! Especially to reilsm, ainnur sis, thunbii, wookielove, womaninmblaq and HanSang for being my constant online companions that i always look forwards to hearing from every morning!

To everyone else, thanks for commenting when you can and to all silent readers, please try to put a word here and there now and then! Appreciate the love~

Chapter 37 – Returning to the past, the fated day draws close

Ji-eun scuffed the floor with her worn-out red boots, sad thoughts filling her mind as she remembered Sanghyun telling her about her sister’s betrayal. They had never been that close for twins; always choosing to keep a safe but amicable distance. However, they had always supported each other, making sure to never become an obstacle to the other’s happiness. In that sense, Ji-eun supposed they were siblings after all.

So to hear about her sister asking Sanghyun out had been a bolt of betrayal. She knew her sister had a strong inner drive, but she had never thought her sister would break the invisible rules between the two of them.

“You’re sister called me earlier,” Sanghyun told her. “She says she has something important to tell me in person…”

“What did you say?”

“I said yes of course. I suppose it’s high time to settle all of this for good.”

Ji-eun let out a sigh. She knew Sanghyun was right, but part of her didn’t want to let her boyfriend anywhere within a five mile radius of her unpredictable sister.

“I’ll come with you.” Ji-eun said promptly, knowing her presence would be key if anything went wrong.

Sanghyun paused. “No,” he said. “Let me talk to her first and find out what she wants. Then we’ll meet up with you and have a proper conversation.”

Ji-eun agreed to his plan, but inside her, doubt grew. Her sister didn’t give up easily, that was one thing she knew for sure, and for that reason she couldn’t help but feel edgy as she stood outside the restaurant, waiting for the two of them to arrive.

Sure enough, she soon caught sight of Sanghyun’s sleek blue car driving at a sedated pace down the entry way. From this distance, she couldn’t see the two figures but she knew that Sanghyun would still be talking to Ji-yun, reassuring her and comforting her.

Ji-eun’s eyes were fixed on the car, watching it grow closer. Suddenly the sound of choking distracted her. Ji-eun twisted around to see a woman, pale faced, collapse to the ground.

“Are you okay?!” Ji-eun gasped and flew to her side, scanning her convulsing body. She tugged the woman’s handbag off her shoulder and tried to position the woman in a more comfortable position, anything to aid her breathing. Then she rooted through the handbag, looking for pills or such. Maybe a phone with contacts. Anything. “Medicine?” she probed the woman, hoping she might give Ji-eun some clues.

But the woman could only manage choked sobs and meaningless mumbles. Ji-eun fumbled for her phone, planning to call her father for help instead, but suddenly a screeching sound made her turn her head and drop her phone.

Ji-eun’s eyes flew wide open as Sanghyun’s car raced towards her in a furious whirlwind of heat and dust. She was barely able to open before the car was right in her face, the metal gleaming like silver demons. All she could think was that Sanghyun, her precious Sanghyun, was driving straight her. Impossible, right. There was no way he was trying to kill her, right?

In that singular moment, everything slowed down and the world around her became crystal clear. The car was but a blur of blue and through the glass Ji-eun could clearly see the desperate wrench of Sanghyun’s mouth. Next to him, her sister had her hands on the steering wheels and glared through the glass with blazing eyes.

Ji-eun felt her eyes narrow. She gritted her teeth and a wave of flames rushed through her. As the world exploded into a rush of red and blue and black, Ji-eun’s last thought was a bitter one.

Betrayer.

And then there was nothing.

***

Sanghyun groaned. His entire body felt like it was on fire, roasting and peeling like a chestnut. He tried to move, but something was strapped across his chest. The seatbelt. He tried to reach for it, to move, but something sapped his strength. And then there was this annoying liquid covering his vision. His fingers awkwardly searched for the source of the blockade and were met with a sickly red fluid that coated his fingers like the devil’s store of chocolate dripping sinfully sweet temptations.

His blurry vision scanned the area. For some reason, everything was bright red, blindingly so. It shivered and flickered bewitchingly and Sanghyun was suddenly reminded of watching a candle. This however was a thousand times worse. The heat blistered and through the shattered glass of the car, he could see two shadows sprawled on the floor.

“Ji…eun…” he whispered, trying to reach out for the familiar figure in front of him, but somehow unable to shorten the distance. He wanted to go to her, pick her up and check her for injuries. But his body wasn’t responding.

Somewhere in the distance, he heard screams and wails. He heard the crumbling of rocks and the grinding of metal. He heard Ji-eun groan and slump onto the ground. Next to him, he heard the soft moan of pain and a whispered ‘why?’

And then something above them fell. With a ferocious CRASH it slammed into the car and a bolt of thunderous pain jolted through Sanghyun’s body. It was too much for him to handle.

His body was shutting down.

No! He screamed inside of his head and told himself to move, to reach Ji-eun even if his body broke in the process. Don’t fall asleep! He screamed, but no one listened.

He felt waves of black swallow him and desperately, he scrambled to reach for his girlfriend. But those heavy black waves weren’t listening. They surged like a tidal wave above his head and as his hand finally moved to touch the shattered glass in front of him, the waves betrayed him.

They crashed down and pulled him under.  Through the veil of blackness, he watched Ji-eun disappear into a whirlpool of darkness. And then he too, was swallowed completely by the leviathan.

Just another victim of the monstrous beast they called death.

***

Ji-yun moaned in pain. She had wanted everything to just end, but this type of ending hurt too much. Glass was embedded in her shoulder, drawing out fresh bolts of pain every time she tried to move. Blood trickled down her neck, uncomfortably so and she tasted the coppery liquid in .

The car was tilted on one side so that she could see Sanghyun below her. It shook precariously as if it were balanced on the edge of a cliff. Ji-yun gulped.

Through the flickering blazes and shattered glass she could see her sister lying near some other woman. She felt a stab of sorrow run through her. She hadn’t wanted to hurt her sister. She had only wanted to rid herself of these painful feelings that squeezed her heart into two.

“Ji-eun,” she sobbed, scared of the engulfing flames and the ominous creaking of rubble overhead. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. But I loved him as well.”

She tried to reach out and her fingertips barely touched Sanghyun’s pale cheek. He was unconscious and pale as a sheet. She ignored the way her blood smeared across his cheek, only engrossed in the feeling of touching the man she had just betrayed.

It had all started out as a simple case of 'liking' or 'wanting'. And then it had developed into love.

Ji-yun couldn’t help but laugh bitterly at her twisted self. I love him? She thought. And yet I’ve pretty much killed him. Maybe it would be better if it all ended here, her fiery grave with the sister she loved and the man they both treasured.

Ji-yun closed her eyes, feeling a sense of triumph at finally being free from her parents. Maybe death wouldn’t be so bad after all.

She squeezed her eyes shut and tried not to scream as a large piece of the pillar fell down and her window shattered, impaling her with thick shards of glass and slamming her body with large chunks of rubble. She tried not to cry as the flames sizzled closer and the pain that jilted her system as her body was rudely slammed into the steering wheel. She tried not to fear the encroaching walls of the car and tried not be afraid of death when it came.

That was easier said than done.

A/N - A more morose picture to fit the mood. Had good fun writing this eventful chapter. So now we all know the truth of the car crash, from three points of view no less!!! Hope this gives more intel into Ji-yun's character! Read and comment~ I'm out!
