Returning to the past, the truth pieces itself together

Mea Maxima Culpa

Returning to the past Arc~

A/N - New arc!!! This arc reveals the past between Sanghyun and Ji-eun from three years ago!!! Exciting action and more sweet fluffy ThunderxIU moments!!! Anticipate it~~~

@thunbii - thxs for your comment, well, their past is about to be revealed!!!

@wookielove - haha, i love the drama as well. Your deductions...well lets say some are correct and some aren't. And sorry if you felt Doongie was a little unrealistic, but well i thot he needed some real anger-releasing time. Most people see him as a soft and gentle person, sometimes funny and sometimes snarky. I wanted to portray how even those kind of people can break sometimes. But don't worry, underneathe it all, he's still that adorably y creature we all know~

@HanSang - True, true, i didn't take into account poor Joonie and Seungho's in the resulting aftermath. Will keep that in mind for this chapter! And hope you like the fanfic, it's really cute!

Finally, thanks to tanpopo for subscribing! One more makes 30!!!

Ooo and finally, to all BANAs or anyone who knows about the sprout dance, this video is guareented to make you smile!

Chapter 30 – Returning to the past, the truth pieces itself together

Seungho POV
Cheondoong was in a different hospital room this time. The nurses estimated that he would be out for three or four hours and then would sleep naturally for the rest of the night. Despite their reassurances, none of us felt like leaving him alone. So, with permission, we all decided to camp out overnight.

Lack of sleep had finally overcome everyone and we were all nodding off. I had forced Dara and Chae-rin to use the two chairs and Dara was dozing with her head on the bed and one hand reaching out towards Cheondoong's still one. Chae-rin leaned against the wall and twitched uncomfortably in whatever dreams she was roaming through.

As for the rest of us, we were sprawled in varying states on the floor. I could see Mir's head slowly bobbing as sleep caught up to him and besides me Joon sat in silence, holding an icepack to the bruise purpling on his cheek. Words had long fled my mouth as well and so I sat quietly, contemplating what to say to Cheondoong when he woke up. Should I question him immediately? Or reassure him again? Perhaps I should ask him why he didn't trust me in the first place. Establish positions and all.

Argh, I huffed and leaned my head back against the cold, white wall and passed time by listening to the peaceful atmosphere of the room where the only sound was Cheondoong’s soft breathing and Dara’s snuffles.

Suddenly, the door was flung open and we all stumbled out of our respective reveries to see IU, or should I saw Lee Ji-eun, fly into the room and rush over to Cheondoong’s side. Her entry made Dara spring up with shock. Behind Ji-eun, G.O sidled into the room at a more sedated pace.

“Sanghyun!” Ji-eun flew to Cheondoong’s side and grasped his hand. “Sanghyun.” She said in a calmer toner as if relieved to finally see him. She touched his lifeless hand to her forehead.

“What happened?” she demanded, looking at me for information immediately. “You never explained why he ended up in hospital before, did you?” her tone was slightly accusatory.

I matched my gaze with hers. “Well you collapsed before we were able.” I admitted. “What happened to you?”

She frowned. “I don’t know. I was trying to remember and…” she suddenly gripped her head. “There was some weird stuff, like out of the movies. Fire burning and screams, all like a horror movie.” She stood her head hard as if to try and get rid of the memory.

“More importantly,” she turned the conversation back to Cheondoong. “Tell me everything?!”

Dara stood up. “Firstly,” she stared Ji-eun down. “Who are you to Sanghyun?”

Actually that was something none of us knew. “I’m his girlfriend.” She said defiantly and I choked. Girlfriend? Sanghyun, our baby Cheondoong, had a girlfriend?!

The room filled with silence. In fact out of all of us, the most comical expression was Joon’s. His mouth so wide that you could fit a double-decker burger inside and his eyes were the size of pennies.

"Y-you." he stuttered, but Dara's loud voice overtook his.

“Girlfriend?” Dara still didn’t quite believe Ji-eun’s claim. “He never told us.”

Ji-eun stared at her seriously. “Sanghyun doesn’t tell you everything.” And unfortunately, that was the honest truth. “He doesn’t tell me everything either,” she admitted. “But at least I know where I stand in our relationship.”

Sensing fire, I quickly stepped in. “Sanghyun was in hospital for extreme exhaustion. He collapsed and we admitted him into hospital. But then when he woke up, he sort of went on a rampage and we had to drug him to get him to rest.”

Ji-eun’s face turned pale. “You drugged him?”

“There was no alternative.” I felt like I had to defend myself. “He was harming himself. He was going on about how we couldn’t understand him or that it was…all for us…”

“In other words he couldn’t trust you.” Ji-eun said with a hard expression on her face. “Did you even give him a chance?!” her voice was rising in pitch.

“We did, but he was going to run off. We couldn’t just let him go away again!” I argued, stepping forwards roughly.

“But in the first place the fact he couldn’t even tell you anything shows that there are barriers between the two of you! Did you really try to understand him? Did you really do everything you could possibly do in your power to help him?!” her screech filled the room.

“OF COURSE WE DID!!!” I couldn’t help myself now, I was beyond angry and my voice thundered through the room. “We tried our best, but he kept refusing us! We tried to be there for him, but he didn’t want us there! So what are we supposed to do?!”

“ANYTHING, SOMETHING,” Ji-eun screamed at me, her hands flung out and her face white with emotion. “Why couldn’t you help him when I couldn’t help him?”

I stared at her. Only now did I realize how helpless Ji-eun must feel and how angry. She had been far away, his lover but not his constant companion. On the other hand, we the members of mblaq had been by his side almost 24/7. And still we had achieved nothing.

“WHY!!!” her eyes blazed. “WHY COULDN’T YOU DO-“

“Ji-eun?” a calm, collected voice interrupted us all. We froze.

“Father?” Ji-eun turned around to stare at the man in the doorway. It was the doctor who had attended to Sanghyun. “What are you doing here…?”

Then it registered in my mind. This man, the doctor, was Ji-eun’s father. And he had been the one treating Sanghyun.

“Ji-eun.” The doctor’s voice was stern, as unflinching as steel. His grey eyes latched onto Ji-eun, then scanned the room. Under his cold gaze, I felt like crumbling. “I came because there was shouting in this room and it was disturbing the hospital's peace and quiet…”

“But I didn’t expect my daughter to be the source of this ruckus.” He said in a cold voice as if reprimanding her for not being a role model. “If you are here to disturb the peace, then leave.”

Then his forehead wrinkled as if a sudden thought entered his mind. “In fact, Ji-eun,” he took one step further into the room to pick up the clipboard at the base of Cheondoong’s bed and inspect it. “Why are you in this…room?”

Ji-eun opened to explain, but her father sudden erupted in anger.

“WHY ARE YOU ASSOCIATING WITH PARK SANGHYUN AGAIN!” he snarled, his previously expressionless now etched with anger. “HAVEN’T I TOLD YOU BEFORE TO STAY AWAY-“

He froze, as if he suddenly realized he had said something wrong. Both Ji-eun and I noticed this immediately.

“But…father…?” she frowned. “I’ve never introduced you to Sanghyun…”

The doctor closed his mouth and straightened his white coat. Clearing his throat, he spoke awkwardly. “I meant…guys in general…” he coughed.

“Did you really?” I stepped forwards. It was clear that he was lying and I wanted to know why. “Don’t lie because it’s obvious enough. What do you mean by you don’t want Ji-eun to associate with Sanghun?” I tried to make my words menacing.

It seemed to work because a wave of fear washed over the doctor’s face. He trembled and leaned against the wall for strength.

“Father,” Ji-eun changed her tone to a softer, gentler one of persuasion. “Please tell me.”

“No, Jieun,” the doctor frowned as if seeing her as a reason to be strong. “This is something you don’t want to know, trust me.”

“Father.” Ji-eun spoke boldly. “If it has anything to do with me and Sanghyun, I have every right to know!”

The doctor at once looked old, as if the years had piled up and crashed on him at once. “Ji-eun,” he begged. “Please don’t ask this of me.”

“Father,” Ji-eun looked at him squarely in the eye. “That man is my boyfriend and if you know something that I don’t know, you will tell me!” Her voice was so piercing I winced.

The doctor heaved a sigh as if giving up. “Very well, Ji-eun but just know that there is a reason why your mother and I chose to keep this a secret.” He gave Sanghyun a dark glare as if he was the source of all the trouble. Actually, he kinda was the source of all our problems.

He pulled a vacated plastic chair over and sat down in a hunched position. “Ji-eun,” he turned to face his daughter with a haunted gaze. “Do you remember how one year ago you got into a car crash?”

My ears pricked. “Doctor, did you just say…car crash?”

Dara flinched.

“Yes,” he rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Ji-eun got into a car accident one year ago.”

“Did that accident happen to involve Sanghyun?” I couldn’t help my suspicion.

The doctor nodded. “Yes. Park Sanghyun was the driver that caused the car accident one year ago on the 4th of January. I remember the details vividly.”

“Wait…so I’ve met Sanghyun before?” Ji-eun collapsed onto the edge of the bed looking just as confused as I felt.

The doctor looked like he wanted to run away. “That man,” he said viciously. “Used to be your boyfriend for two years, but after the car crash you seemed to have forgotten him – completely. Medically speaking, its possible, but even I couldn’t believe how precisely you forgot Park Sanghyun. It was like you yourself wanted to forget.”

I watched Ji-eun’s mouth fall open and her hands clasp and unclasp. I could sort of understand her feelings right now – a chaotic maelstrom of thoughts. I didn’t blame her: she was being told that her boyfriend of three months was actually her old boyfriend of two years and that he had caused a car accident that had made her lose her memory of him. Add to that, her father was concluding that she had wanted to forget Sanghyun.

“Wait,” Dara spoke up. “Are you telling me my little brother got your daughter into a car accident and no one else knew about it?”

The doctor frowned. “We told Sanghyun-ssi ourselves to leave my family alone. To just go and not make this public. In fact, we went to great lengths to make sure the news never got out since both my daughters were aiming to enter the entertainment industry.”

“Wait a sec,” I narrowed my eye. “Both your daughters.”

“Yes.” The doctor confirmed my suspicions. “Ji-eun and her twin, Ji-yun.”

I nodded. This just confirmed what I had learnt of just hours ago, right before Ji-eun had collapsed. Her twin was involved. However, it seemed someone else in the room didn’t know.

“What?!” Joon bolted up straight. “Ji-eun has a twin?!”

“Yes,” the doctor’s expression turned grave. “Ji-yun and Ji-eun are identical twins. They look exactly alike.”

“Then why,” I couldn’t stop the nagging questions. “Is Ji-yun-ssi not in the entertainment industry? Didn’t you say both your daughters were aiming to enter?”

This time Ji-eun spoke. “My sister was involved in the accident as well.” She sighed. “But whilst I lost my memories of the last month and apparently,” she frowned here. “And apparently my memories of Sanghyun.” Her eyes darkened then. “My twin sister received a scar right across her chest and neck. What was even worse was that her vocal cords were damaged so that she can’t sing as powerfully as she used to. Therefore, there was no company who would take her on and my sister’s dream shattered.”

In the corner of my eye, I could see Joon sink to the ground, his hands flexing and his mouth opening and closing like a goldfish. I frowned at his strange actions and made a note to investigate that later, but right now my focus was on Ji-eun and the doctor’s dark expression.

“Do you see Ji-eun, why we never told you?” the doctor looked at his daughter forlornly. “He is the cause of everything! All our problems! All our sorrows! Because of that one car crash, you lost your memories, your sister was scarred beyond belief and all because that guy couldn’t drive one lousy car! We were just lucky that neither of you died!”

I looked at his body language: hands tightly gripping the arms of the chair, back straight and eyes like lasers drilling a hole into Sanghyun’s still body. Somehow all the ruckus hadn’t woken up the kid.

“Look,” the doctor huffed. “Your mother and I kept you two away from that boy because he is nothing but trouble! Look at Bang Hyo Jin upstairs, she is another victim of that boy’s recklessness!” At that, G.O and Mir’s eyes grew cloudy.

He stood up suddenly and grabbed a hold of Ji-eun’s hand. With a forceful tug, he pulled her out of the room. “Just stay away from that boy, period!”

“But, father-“ Ji-eun protested, turning around to garner one last gaze of her boyfriend. “He-“

“He’s trouble, and that’s all he’ll ever be.” The doctor spat and left with his daughter in tow and an unconscious boy behind.
