Returning to the past, another love grows

Mea Maxima Culpa

A/N - Sorry for the late night update, but here it is! The action's coming up soon, so tune in for it~ Before then, more on Ji-yun!

@wookielove - Hope the tips help (and that you didn't have to read for an hour to get through the whole long thing ><) but i'm glad you're liking the chapters! It's all gaining momentum~~~

@womaninmblaq - Haha, yup it was Ji-yun's eyes (not like it could have been anyone elses) but well to answer your comment, here's the chapter! I know the feeling about Doongie's name. I try to use Sanghyun coz its actually quite a nice name to pronounce, but Cheondoong and doongie and Thunder are nice as well. I just don't like it when people write his name as Cheondung for english reasons -.-

@HanSang - Ouch >< Don't kill your fingers! But i think i would melt as well if i had a boyfriend as sweet and serious as Sanghyun~~~ Ahh, melting right now just thinking about it! As for Ji-yun's move, you'll see a glimpse of it here!

Finally, thanks to jenjen0318 for subscribing!!!

Chapter 35 – Returning to the past, another love grows

2 years ago - April 2008...

Sanghyun sat in his car, waiting for Ji-eun to come downstairs. It had been two weeks since Sanghyun had been introduced to Ji-eun’s family and whilst they weren’t the most inviting of parents, they seemed to have a mutual level of trust.

However, Ji-eun was late.

Sanghyun glanced at his phone. Sanghyun was early, but usually so was Ji-eun. He was about to pick up his phone and call her when suddenly she came flying out of the door.

“Sanghyun!” she called cheerfully, rushing into the car. “Sorry I’m late.”

However something felt wrong. Sanghyun tilted his head, looking at Ji-eun and trying to analyze what exactly felt wrong. She looked the same, dressed the same and was speaking the same. But something was…off…

“What’s wrong Sanghyun?” Ji-eun probed him. She leaned away from him as if worried she was too close. Then it struck Sanghyun. It was the distance between the two of them. Ji-eun was always close to him. When he felt uncertain, Ji-eun would touch his cheek and look deep into his eyes as if trying to read his mind. When he was feeling somber, Ji-eun would hold him close and tuck his head under her chin. When he was happy she would twine fingers and press herself close. But this Ji-eun right now didn’t know him at all.

“Who are you?” Sanghyun stared at her. “You aren’t Ji-eun are you?”

The girl in front of him bit her lip and twirled her black hair around her finger. Another action Ji-eun never did.

“How did you know?” she asked in a solemn voice, quite unlike her previously merry mood.

“You may look like her,” Sanghyun explained. “But you can’t act like her. Not completely.”

The girl let out a sigh. “You really know her, huh. You’re correct; I’m Ji-eun’s twin: Ji-yun.”

Sanghyun’s eyes flew wide open. A twin!? He had never seen her before. Wait…no…had Ji-eun mentioned her before? Yes, she had mentioned a sister, but somehow forgotten to tell him that they were twins.

“What are you doing here then?” Sanghyun asked.

Ji-yun looked at him nervously. “Ji-eun is sick today, so I came here to tell you instead.”

“Really?” Sanghyun looked doubtful. “You didn’t look like you were about to tell me that though.”

Ji-yun had the grace to look embarrassed. “Fine,” she admitted. “I wasn’t going to tell you, because I wanted to go on the date instead.”

Sanghyun was taken aback. “Eh, why?”

Ji-yun shrugged. “I wanted to see what kind of guy my sister was dating. Do you blame me for being curious?”

Sanghyun was a little surprised at her boldness. “I don’t…but…if Ji-eun is sick, then I’d rather be by her side.” He said honestly and slid out of the car. Ji-yun followed suit, but with a distinctive look of disappointment on her face. “I’m sorry, but Ji-eun comes first.”

Ji-yun watched him with faint regret as Sanghyun walked into the house and disappeared upstairs. She bit her lip and then walked in the opposite direction.

***

Sanghyun rubbed Ji-eun’s cold hand, trying to warm her up. “How are you doing?” he asked her gently as she blurrily opened her eyes.

“Sanghyun?” Ji-eun looked confused. “What are you doing here? I told Ji-yun to tell you to go home.”

“She told me,” Sanghyun smiled softly and brushed back her sweaty hair. “But I wanted to stay with you.”

Ji-eun smiled. “Thank you.” She gripped his hand. Then she faltered. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Sanghyun shook his head and tried to play dumb.

“Don’t lie.” Ji-eun pursed her lips. “I can always read your face. Something happened. Tell me.”

Sanghyun bit his lip, the desire to tell her warring with his desire to not burden her whilst she was sick. He gave in. “Ji-yun was a little strange, that’s all.”

“Strange?”

“She tried to pretend she was you, instead of just telling me you were sick.”

Ji-eun frowned. Why would her sister do that?

“She said she wanted to investigate the man her sister was dating…but…”

“She doesn’t do that kind of things.” Ji-eun muttered. “For twins, we keep ourselves rather separate. I don’t know why she would intervene like that…”

Sanghyun just frowned.

“Don’t worry,” Ji-eun patted his hand, trying to reassure him even though she was the sick one. “I’ll talk to her, okay?”

“Okay.” Sanghyun nodded, not knowing what else he could do.

***

“Ji-yun.” Ji-eun faced her sister who was sitting down at her desk, pen in hand and notebook open.

“Yeah?” her sister turned around. “What’s wrong?”

“Why did you try to go on a date with Sanghyun?” she got straight to the point.

Ji-yun’s eyes narrowed as it always did when she was nervous and she twirled her hair in her hand, biting her lip before answering. “Did Sanghyun tell you?”

“Yes,” Ji-eun nodded. “And why are you speaking about him so familiarly?”

Ji-yun’s eyes widened. “Habit.” She lied immediately. “I feel like I know him already after hearing about it from you. And if you really want to know…”

“I want to know.” Ji-eun wasn’t backing down.

Ji-yun raised her eyes to meet her twin sister’s. “Truthfully," she said plainly. "I like Sanghyun too.”

“What?” Ji-eun was taken aback at her sister’s bold confession. How could her sister like the same man as her? For goodness sake, her sister didn’t even know Sanghyun?

Ji-yun just shrugged. “I like him. I don’t know why, but I just do,” she tugged the hem of her shirt. “I just want to get closer to him.”

Ji-eun’s eyes turned fierce. “He’s mine.” She hissed. “I don’t mind you liking him as a friend, but don’t think that you can just take my boyfriend.”

Ji-yun gave her a pitying look. “That, my dear sister, is not up to you.” She poked Ji-eun with the of her pen. “That is up to Sanghyun and in my eyes, he is fair game. Just because he is currently dating you doesn’t mean that it is set in stone. I like him,” she squared her shoulders. “and that’s not going to change. You can’t deny my feelings just as I don’t deny yours.”

With that she turned her attention back her to her notebook and in doing so, declared war.

A/N - Hmm, wasn't sure how Ji-yun's character came out in your eyes, maybe a little selfish, but I don't want too much hate on her >< I wanted her to be the other half of Ji-eun that is equally as headstrong and driven about the things she wants. So when she sees Ji-eun as the sister who has everything, she decides to pursue her own desires. I wanted her to be that sort of character, so please don't write her down as too spolied and such! Oh well, you'll find out more about her soon~~~
