Chapter 13 – My fault she suffered
Joon POV
Cheondoong Observation Update #2:
Morning – Dancing for four hours.
Lunch – Skipped lunch and went to practice singing.
Afternoon – Had scheduled interviews.
Dinner – Picked at his food and then went back to the practice room
Midnight (noticed on my way to the bathroom) – Still dancing.
Mir POV
I could tell that everyone’s spirits were low. And it saddened me to see my hyungs so exhausted and wrung out. We all needed a break. So I suggested dinner.
“Not a bad idea.” Seungho praised me. “Where shall we go? Somewhere fancy for a change?”
Even Cheondoong sounded interested in the sound of a change of scenery. I was glad that he was still paying attention to us all. Joon was smiling for a change and G.O just seemed relieved at not having to cook dinner again.
“How about the new restaurant downtown.” Joon offered. “It’s got good meat dishes.” He waggled his fingers invitingly to Cheondoong who nodded, looking hungry for once.
“Cool.” I smiled and leaned back in my chair. “Sounds like a plan.”
Cheondoong POV
We were out of the dorms and in our black SUV car. It was a nice change of scenery from the bland white walls of our dorms and the worried faces of everyone. People blurred past me on the streets and the night lights shone like Las Vegas. I liked the way people walked passed me as if I were unimportant. It was nice to be no one for one night.
But as Seungho drove us, I caught sight of someone who I never wanted to see again. Her profile was half in the shadows so that I only saw half her face. But half her face was bad enough.
“Is that Lee Ji-eun?” Joon spoke close to my ear and peered at her dark figure. “You know, IU the singer.”
I froze.
“Where! Where!” Mir stretched from his seat and squashed me against the window in his attempt to get a better look. “I wanna see!”
“I don’t think it’s her.” I said, pushing Joon and Mir away.
“How do you know?” Joon countered half-angrily. “Do you know her well?” At his second thought, he leaned closed to me eagerly. “If you do, can you introduce her to me?”
“Ooo Ooo, me too!” Mir bounced up and down.
“Calm down.” Seungho waved one hand as he reversed the car into the parking lot. “It’s not her.”
Joon turned to Seungho questioning. Seungho gestured at the radio. “Haven’t you been listening to it? IU’s been on the radio live for the past five minutes.”
“Oh…” Joon sounded disappointed. I just sighed with relief, the thousands of excuses fleeing my mind as they became unneeded.
“She just looked a lot like IU.” Joon grumbled.
G.O laughed. “Everyone does when they’re half in the shadows. At least in your fantasies!” Mir starting laughing as well at Joon’s disappointed face.
I, however, just looked out of the window at that shadowy spot where she still stood. Watching me. Our eyes connected and I knew immediately that nothing had been forgotten.
“Chendoong?” Joon shook my shoulder. “Cheondoong!”
“Wha-?” I turned around, dragging my eyes away from her dark ones that drew me in like whirlpools.
“Don’t fall asleep!” he chided me. “We’re here now!” Then he leaned back and looked at me. “Are you okay? You look a little pale.”
“I’m fine.” I mumbled and Joon shrugged as he jumped out of the car. He held the door open for me, but I couldn’t resist the urge. I turned back quickly to look at the same shadowy spot one last time.
It was empty now.
