Chase

One path to Heaven

“No, no I’m asking in case you might’ve seen him somewhere. Alright, I get it. Thanks.” Seunghyun ended the call with a sigh. It seemed like Seungri was gone from the face of the earth, leaving no trails behind for anyone to see. Still, he tried to stay positive. As much as he hated to admit it, he did really care about the kid. It wasn’t like he hadn’t made it difficult for Seunghyun before, he was almost getting used to cleaning up his frequent mess and of course demanding payback from the younger man. However, this time something in the back of his mind told him that his situation might be a bit on the bad side. The reason might’ve been his overly cheerful voice or the way the younger man cut him off in the middle of his sentence. Still, he tried not to think too much of it yet, he tried to concentrate on finding him, even if it meant having to drive the whole night.

The angel shuffled around the kitchen while Seunghyun was deep in thought. Judging by the look on his face, he was deep in thought and maybe a little stressed out which in the end meant that he needed coffee. Or at least that was what Jiyong had learned after all this time. He didn’t know why or how, but it seemed to help him cool down so he tried making a cup, hoping that he didn’t fail completely. It was strange, black and smelled funny and he would never want to try it but he didn’t trust his own senses to be the same as Seunghyuns anyway. Carefully he brought the cup over to the other man who accepted it absentmindedly before flinching at the hot liquid on his tongue. The angel flinched along with him, feeling apologetic that he couldn’t warn him about the temperature simply because he couldn’t feel it.

“Thanks, it’s good.” It was lucky Seunghyun spoke without looking at the angel, deep in thought because at that moment he felt a particularly hard sting in his chest, making him stumble a little. While trembling slightly, he reached for the counter to keep himself steady, letting out a breath he didn’t realize he was keeping. That did however catch Seunghyun’s attention and he turned around, seeing Jiyong busying himself with the sink, wanting to pour himself a glass of water and hiding his facial expression.

Although he might be slow, Seunghyun wasn’t stupid. His lips became a thin line and while he wanted nothing more than to shake the truth out of the small angel, he would wait a little more. It was a given that if Jiyong had any kind of trouble he would be there to fix it for him, some way or another. With an inaudible sigh he put the cup down and helped the blonde getting a glass of water.

“I’ve had enough coffee for the night I think,” referring to the cup he had before the movie, he gently gave Jiyong the glass and watched him drink it silently, water being about the only thing he managed to drink. “I think I know where Seungri might be hiding, it’s just a very long drive. Think you can handle that?” Jiyong looked at him as he finished his water, setting the empty glass aside with a smile. His chest didn’t hurt anymore and he grabbed Seunghyun’s bigger hand in his, squeezing it gently.

“Anything for you, and Seungri,” he searched the deep eyes, getting lost for the hundredth time. Seunghyun on the other hand couldn’t stop himself from cupping the angel’s cheeks with both of his hands and pressed their lips together. Thin arms s themselves around his waist and Jiyong could feel the other man’s desperation, sadness, happiness and love all at once. It was like Seunghyun wanted to show him everything and Jiyong couldn’t help but tear up, his heart clenching in his chest.

Seunghyun pulled away with a smile and Jiyong’s jaw with his thumb.

“Alright, let’s get ready to leave.” Seunghyun whispered and ruffled his hair. The angel blushed and blinked his own tears away, following the other into his room to pack a few things they needed for the trip.

“Jiyong, I might have to borrow some of those super powers of yours later…” The angel let go of his death grip on his jacket and looked up at the handsome face curiously. They were in the car and had been driving for about an hour and as much as Jiyong wanted to look out the window and stare at the unknown land, he had difficulties looking more than a few seconds at the time.

“Why?”

“Just… as a precaution. Is it okay? If you step in if things become too bad…” Seunghyun trailed off, staring at the road before him. He didn’t want to ask too much of him but there was a chance Seungri might be in more trouble than he ever imagined and then he didn’t know what to expect.

“Yes,” The angel simply replied and buried his nose in Seunghyun’s arm, inhaling the familiar scent that gave him comfort. He wondered what had happened to Seungri that it would become this serious. The other man had told him about his previous adventures but it seemed like they’d never had problems like this before. Of course, he also carefully explained that it might just be him overreacting but Jiyong trusted him.

Again his chest was hurting, or more like throbbing and he tried to breathe normally, making it seem like he was scared only. If Seunghyun noticed, he didn’t say.

Another two hours passed and Jiyong was feeling a bit better, carefully playing with the radio and singing along with songs. He was slowly getting used to it, although he didn’t feel entirely safe it was not as bad as before. He pushed all the wrong buttons and Seunghyun laughed at him, trying to correct his mistakes when the audio became too loud or the channel was way off.

“Let’s stop at the next gas station for a break, huh?” He glanced at Jiyong with a smile and a yawn.

The angel nodded in return and stretched his limbs, curious about this so called ‘gas station.’ When the car pulled over, the blonde was the first one out the door and Seunghyun watched him amusedly stretching his body and taking in his surroundings. It was dark but a few lights from distant houses showed how empty the land was. They were far away from the city, Jiyong could tell, and he wondered where on earth Seungri had hid himself.

“Come on, maybe we can find something entertaining to buy,” Seunghyun walked inside the shop and Jiyong followed, immediately scanning all the strange things they could buy inside. This was definitely different from the other shops he’d been in before. It was small but he liked it. In the corner of his eye, he saw Seunghyun buying a cup of coffee and returning to his side to look at the merchandise together.

“This is just to keep me awake, it’s tiring to drive this far in the middle of the night y’know.” Jiyong smiled at him and pointed at the shelf of magazines near the window, indicating that he wanted to go look at them. Seunghyun wasn’t about to say no and followed him, pulling out some silly magazines that he would probably never read but he was positive Jiyong would find them interesting. He ended up buying two chocolate bars, two gossip magazines and one about travelling.

When Jiyong grabbed his hand later, he could feel gratitude seeping through their bond and he couldn’t help but smile, pulling the hand up and pressing his lips to the smooth skin. It distracted the angel from reading for a few minutes, his brain going into overdrive but he managed to calm down after a while.

Seunghyun finally announced that they only had about an hour left of their drive and it definitely lightened the mood in the car. The display showed 3 AM and he was beyond tired. If Seungri wasn’t there he would break in and spend the night in the house either way. Jiyong was looking at the pictures of Italy for the fourth time and was completely fascinated by how different it was.

“Maybe we can travel there one day,” Seunghyun chuckled at the happy expression on Jiyong’s face.

They were drawing closer now, Seunghyun mentally preparing the lecture he would give the younger man. He felt the smaller hands reach out for his wrist and he hummed.

“Where do you think Seungri is hiding?” The fingers brushed lightly over his veins, tickling him.

“If I guess right he will be in his mother’s old house, he mostly runs to that place when things really get bad.”

“And will his mother be there?” Jiyong spoke softly, putting the magazines in the backseat afterwards.

“No, his mother she passed away some years ago.” He sighed after seeing the sad expression on the angel. “But the house has been empty ever since so he uses it sometimes.”

It was true that Seungri often went to the old house, although it was probably not because he missed his mother because he hardly knew her. His father was a good man, but too good for Seungri who after he moved out distanced himself from his family. In turn, he never felt sorry for himself and Seunghyun liked that about him. Though it wouldn’t hurt if his friend spent a little more time thinking about the consequences of his actions.

“If he’s asleep we’ll wake him, make him tell what’s going on and then I’m taking the bed.” That pulled a silent laugh from Jiyong who started thinking too much about Seungri’s situation.

The doorbell rang about six times before a sleepy Seungri emerged with a puzzled expression. It was a funny sight and Seunghyun would’ve laughed if he wasn’t so tired.

“Hyung! Jiyong!” He exclaimed after a few seconds of rubbing the sleep off his face. Seunghyun sighed before hitting him upside the head and pushing him inside the large living room. Jiyong followed with a smile, knowing Seunghyun was only worried about him. This house was really different from Seunghyun’s. The kitchen and living room were in separate rooms and the whole area was spacy and old furniture decorated the rooms. There were two floors and the large field outside was empty which made Jiyong wonder if they might’ve been growing something there.

“Alright, you tell me what’s going on right now.” Seunghyun huffed and settled on a chair, letting his exhaustion wash over him. He held onto that little spark of energy that emerged when Jiyong grabbed his hand next to him so he could join the conversation as well. A sigh escaped his lips when he started playing with his fingers on his lap.

Seungri seemed to be stalling a bit, reluctant to tell him what was wrong and it was something new. Usually he could force it out of him right away.

“I, uh, you know how you have a guardian angel…?” He spoke slowly, almost unable to look Seunghyun in the eyes. He didn’t like where this was going. Seungri didn’t wait for an answer, knowing the older man was upset anyway.

“I kinda wanted to meet my own, like, Jiyong or Chaerin,” Seungri looked at the roof, anywhere besides them. “But even though I asked for it, it wouldn’t happen. And then I thought that maybe, just maybe, if I started letting my life go down the drain I could have a better chance of meeting that angel…And I was kind of hoping it would be Youngbae.” Jiyong smiled at the last almost inaudible sentence and Seunghyun severely facepalmed at his stupid idea. Of all the things he could be doing, he wanted to mess with the things that were out of his reach. He gathered his wits and spoke through gritted teeth at his anxious friend.

“Well, that doesn’t explain why you’re hiding out here.”

“I might’ve… forgotten to pay for some of the drugs that I… used.”

Oh no.

“And they might be coming to find me soon…” Seunghyun was almost speechless.

“Who?”

“Park.” Finally he allowed himself to let out a groan that startled Jiyong. Seungri lowered his head and the angel tried to see if Seunghyun was feeling well.

“Of all the people you can piss off, you have to choose the only one who knows where this house is,” Seunghyun straightened himself and sunk back in his chair. “You should be happy I brought Jiyong, or else we’d probably not survive this. Idiot.” Seungri winced and apologized to both of them, standing to lock the door.

“Who is Park?” Jiyong massaged his hand absentmindedly and Seunghyun wanted nothing more than to close his eyes and enjoy it. Unfortunately now was not the time, he made a mental note to ask for it later.

“Park is someone Seungri has known since he was little. A bad guy. Deals drugs and has no problem killing people if they don’t pay up. Let’s just hope he’ll cut Seungri some slack since they were friends once.”
