005: And You Are?
Like Stars In the Sky
And You Are?...
Over two weeks had passed. During those two weeks, she'd sometimes be brought into her seatmates conversations. Even Jeno would randomly say something to her from time to time. During all this time, Mark had continued inviting her to lunch with them. Which she really couldn't understand, they definitely weren't close. She wouldn't even classify them as acquaintances. Even after twelve days of inviting her to lunch, she still declined. And that had worked thus far, but today was a bit different.
"I'm fine, I like eating in the classroom." She told Mark and Jaemin the same thing she had been for the past two weeks. They both nodded, "Yeah, yeah." Jaemin rolled his eyes, "Then we'll be going first." He put his hand up as a good-bye. Mark followed after him, he stopped with half his body out of the door, "Jeno, you coming?" The addressed boy shook his head, "Not today." Mark gave him a weird look but left nonetheless.
Doyeon had become more civil with them, there were even a few times she didn't mind getting dragged into their useless debates. They frequented the subject 'is soup best in a bread bowl, or with bread on the side'. This was something that actually made Doyeon interrupt. But even now, she'd only had around five short conversations with them. Not counting the small noises she'd make as a reply. It was funny, at first she was worried she wouldn't be able to stay a good distance from them. But so far she was doing fine with Mark and Jaemin. If anything, the problem was the boy who had just taken a seat in front of her desk.
Doyeon raised an eyebrow at him. Jeno put his lunch box up on her desk, "Let's eat." He smiled widely. "Why are you here?" She asked with a deadpan stare. He rubbed the back of his nape.
"You said you liked eating in the classroom, and I feel bad about you being here alone."
Doyeon eyed him suspiciously, "We aren't friends." He seemed taken aback by her bluntness. "You don't have to feel bad for me."
He bobbed his head, "Do we have to be friends to eat together?" She was ready to say yes, but then she remembered how she'd gone to breakfast with Jaemin just two weeks before. "I suppose not." Jeno gave her an eye smile as he started eating his food. She followed behind, though slower and still not quite sure how to feel about this.
After a few minutes of silent eating she was finally over it. "Can you please just tell me what you want?" Doyeon asked. He went to open his mouth but she stopped him, "And before you give me that 'no one left alone' speech again, I've been alone for almost three weeks." She narrowed her eyes, "So what do you actually want?" She asked. Jeno immediately looked like he was caught. "Fine," he sighed. "You remember the rubix cube?" She nodded, she'd still been mentally referring to him as Cube. "Well, my brother has been bugging me about you for weeks. I told him a classmate helped me and he's been wanting to meet," he put his fingers up as quotations marks, " 'the girl that's smarter than you'" Doyeon couldn't help the snort of laughter that left her lips.
Somehow she always let her guard down when it was just her and one other person. She did the same thing when she ate with Jaemin. "Are you asking me to meet your brother?" Jeno put up one finger, "Just this once, please do me this favor!" He pleaded. Doyeon clicked her tongue, "How old is he?" She asked. "Six" Jeno replied, a glint of hope in his eyes. Doyeon nodded, "One time, then you have to leave me alone." Jeno nodded, "Whatever you say!" he even made a show of fake zipping his mouth shut. "W
