010: Balcony Chords
Like Stars In the Sky
The sound of an acoustic guitar traveled into Doyeon's room. It sounded muffled, she could just barely hear it as she blinked the sleep out of her eyes. It was already Friday, meaning it was the last day of school for the week. That gave her the extra push she needed to get out of bed. Her feet seemed to take control of her as she found herself padding along to her balcony door. Gently...She told herself, opening the door a crack as slowly and quietly as possible. The guitar continued on, she couldn't decipher what song it was, but for some reason it had a familiar melody that made her close her eyes. She felt secure as the strumming seemed to wrap around her. Her fingers tapped against the door as she listened. It felt like the lyrics for the song were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't quite form them...was this some sort of feeling of nostalgia?
"I hear you." Jaemin's voice said, in tune with the chords he was playing. He said it so casually that Doyeon almost missed it. She could close the door and walk away, but she didn't really feel like leaving the feeling behind. So, she opened the door, stepping out onto the plant littered balcony. Jaemin gave her a sweet smile, still strumming away. But, he'd stopped playing whatever that song was. "What are you doing awake so early?" He asked. Doyeon's eyebrows creased, for the first time she noticed that the sun wasn't fully up. She'd usually be asleep for at least another hour.
"How can I stay asleep when you're playing that?" She asked, pointing to his guitar. The least he could do was close his window, but she wasn't going to complain about that now. "What are you doing up?" She asked back. Jaemin had to fend off a smile, it felt good to hear her ask him questions. Too bad it wasn't one he wanted to answer.
"I woke up when my parents left for work." He cleared his throat, "I decided playing was easier than falling back asleep." Doyeon nodded, going on her knees in front of the railing, leaning her arms against it.
"What song were you playing?" Her curiosity was piqued as she looked at the instrument, she'd always wanted to learn how to play...her grandfather used to play it to help her fall asleep. Jaemin didn't answer, instead he changed the subject.
"Do you know how to play?" He asked, easily seeing the look in her eyes. He used to hold that same look in his back when his father played--that was back when he wanted to be just like his father. Doyeon shook her head.
"No, It looks fun though." She felt her fingers tingle as she remembered the sensation of the strings under her fingers. She used to try and play with her grandfathers, but the guitar wasn't easily self taught, hence why she never figured out a single chord.
"I'll teach you, just tell me when." He said eagerly. Doyeon looked at him, taken aback by the sudden sound of determination in his voice. She meant to shake her head, but instead she nodded.
"Okay." She said before standing up, she should probably get ready for school since she's up. She almost closed the door behind her, but she paused. Looking back at Jaemin, she sent him a genuine small smile, "See you at school." It was odd to feel so relaxed around him, usually she had her guard up; or at least tried her best to keep it up, but I think the fact she talks to him now shows she strayed a bit away from her original plan.
Jaemin looked on the door, now shut. Isn't it crazy how she keeps showing up when he needs someone the most. If she didn't have that habit, they'd probably still be close to strangers. Now she was coming up on a year here, and he finally felt like progress was being made between her and everyone here. It wasn't just him that noticed her smile growing more and more genuine, was it?

Doyeon walked into the classroom. Jaemin wasn't in his seat yet, but Mark was, and Jeno was sitting in the chair in front of him. Doyeon looked at the two, slightly intrigued to hear what they were talking about. Jeno noticed her first, waving at her to come quicker. She didn't go any faster though, slow and steady wins the race. When she was finally seated, Jeno began telling his story again. "I saw some girl confessing to Jaemin by the bathrooms!" He informed her excitedly. She wasn't sure how she wa
