009: Accidental Eavesdropping
Like Stars In the Sky
Winter break came to an end rapidly.
Before they even processed it, it was already the first day back. Which put them more with a little over four months till the end of the school year. And right around that same time, it would mark Doyeon's first year here. Which was such a crazy thought to her, it still felt like she'd just arrived here. But now isn't really a time to be nostalgic, she can save that for in a few months. Right now she'd try living in the present. And presently, she had to pee.
"Where are you going?" Jaemin asked, looking at his clock, the next class would begin in ten minutes. Doyeon shrugged, not really wanting to disclose that she would be going for a bathroom break. Jaemin moped as she walked off and he was left alone. Mark had also left to go see his 'friend', as Jaemin called the girl Mark had been into for the past few months. It was mostly on the DL, since Mark didn't want anyone knowing he still liked the girl, but Jaemin had found out.
While Jaemin moped, Doyeon was frowning by the entrance to the bathroom closest to her classroom. It was out of order for repainting. She huffed as she began walking in the direction of the next closest bathroom. Which was down on the floor below. The only problem was, as she stepped onto the last step, she heard hushed voices from right around the corner. She wasn't actively eavesdropping...but the voice did sound familiar...and she was curious...so hey, maybe she was.
"You knew I liked you!" The familiar voice shouted in a hushed tone. "How could you go out with that guy!"
"He's not just some guy! We have history...a lot more than you and I do." A girlish voice said.
The scoff that came out of the guy sounded like it was dripping venom. "Fine, go to him again...but don't come to me when you get your heart broke." His voice went soft as he forced the last words out. the words Because I'll still be healing mine, were left on his tongue and as he walked off to leave.
By the time Doyeon realized the steps were coming closer to the staircase, it was already too late. The boy turned, and she found herself face to face with her desk mate.
Mark's eyes looked panicked as he stared back at her. Had she heard everything? Doyeon was prepared to walk away when his voice broke the thick blanket of silence. "Did you hear everything?" He cleared his throat. Doyeon moved her hand from side to side, "Define everything? I think I heard enough to understand the situation."
The bell rang.
"Let's talk later-" he went to walk past her but stopped "and don't tell anyone about the conversation you heard." With that he was gone. And Doyeon gave him a few seconds before beginning her own journey back to class, with a full bladder and a feeling of guilt for hearing what wasn't supposed to be heard.
