012: No Effort
Like Stars In the Sky
Summer was seeping through her fingers like rain falls from the sky; quickly and naturally. Jeno had insisted that everyone took Doyeon out for a special 'One year anniversary', but that had passed over a month ago. Summer was coming to an end in less than two weeks, and she hadn't seen much of her neighbor since said dinner. Maybe it was because she'd been more annoyed and curt with him than usual--but would that really stop him from messing with her? She doubted it. She assumed the real reason was because he'd been spending all his free time with Juri. It seemed his hypothesis was right, and he had fallen for her. Doyeon was happy for him, even though she didn't like the grounds on which their relationship was built; she tried to ignore that and focus on other things when she saw the two of them.
Unlike Jaemin, Doyeon had actually seen the other boys a couple of times all together. Mostly when Jeno or Haechan set random plans up. Outside of the whole group, Doyeon had seen Jeno bi-weekly, along with Mark who hung out at Jeno's quite a bit. The most frequent person Doyeon had seen--shockingly even to herself--was Chenle. He'd somewhat made her house his second home. He'd visit when he was stressed, or relapsing back into his old feelings. Though his relationship with his parents had drastically improved after his conversation with them; that didn't mean he still didn't feel pressured or like he was failing them. That feeling had been burned into his brain for so long, he knew it would take some time for it to disappear. Doyeon didn't mind the company too much, usually he'd just come for dinner and watch a movie, sometimes talk about random things. Doyeon rarely had to worry about carrying a conversation, because he did it on his own. She still recalled his words to her on his second visit.
"Don't tell the guys about this, they don't know much about my family and I don't really want to share it with them all."
It was weird to her that they all came off as being so close, but all kept some sort of secret. In hindsight, she was doing the same thing. To outsiders it probably looked like she was all buddy buddy with them, but in reality, they barely know anything about her. Friendships were an odd concept to her even now--I mean, where do you draw the line with how much you share? She wasn't sure how to share without oversharing sometimes. Even that night out on her balcony, she didn't like how she acted to Jaemin. He didn't understand where she was coming from, and that irked her; even though it was because of her that he didn't know anything. If she was more than she is, she would be able to share...but unease seeped in long before words could come out.
Doyeon sighed as she walked into the coffee shop, Jeno, Mark, and Chenle had called her out, once again, everyone else was either too lazy to come, or already had plans. Looking around, she didn't see them anywhere. So, she took a seat at the booth in the back corner, and pulled out her phone. She decided not to text and ask where they were, she was more than fine waiting alone for a few minutes. It helped her to prepare herself for the conversation to come. Keeping up with all the topics they talked about was difficult, she didn't know anything about what made their video game consoles work--or what raytracing is and why she should be so excited for it. She did try her best to understand, she could at least give the topics a chance, but it was boring--to put it bluntly. Doyeon tapped her fingers mindlessly, until a voice caused her to stop. She looked up, the person who greeted her took her by surprise.
Juri smiled down at her, "I didn't think I'd run into you here." She said cheerfully, taking a seat at the table. Doyeon's eyebrows furrowed, she doesn't remember inviting her to sit. "What are you doing here?"
Doyeon blinked at the obvious question, "Getting a drink." She didn't bother to throw the question back at the girl, it would be the same answer that Doyeon gave.
"How fun," Juri twisted her lips, unsure what to say, "Uh, Jaemin should be here any seconds." Doyeon nodded, she figured. Though she found it weird that Jaemin would be coming to the same place,
