CHAPTER 01: THE NEW MANAGER

 

It was about time that they release their new comeback in Korea entitled ‘You Made My Day.’ After releasing a single in Japan and their enormous and overwhelming concert especially for Jeonghan, who had to memorize the routines he learned for years, compressing it to only a few days.

 

He’s damn exhausted and it was shown in his droopy eyes. On the other hand, the members were worried, but Jeonghan made sure that he wouldn’t fail them. Moreover, he assured that he’s fine. The attacks were still there, especially when he experience fatigue. Fortunately, no painful attacks so far, apparently, it was only the ones hitting his ear with monotonous tone and a headache sometimes.

Heading to the location to where they would film their music video and do some of their photoshoots, he paused for a second on his way riding the van. He stood in the middle of the road with deep stares over the black shadows of the car. At that moment, he remembered voices telling him “Please, don’t forget me.” Those words rang into his ears for several times with different voices and tones. There were sadness, cries, pleads and other sorrowful sounds to hear, it made Jeonghan think how it feels being forgotten.

 

“Jeonghanie?” called Seungcheol, who was inside the van already. “Are you alright?”

 

Jeonghan came to his senses at once and answered. “Yes. I am. Sorry.” He immediately rode the van and stayed put on his seat. He remained quiet for some reasons. One for sadness and one for sleepiness since they woke up too early to shoot.

 

While looking at the window witnessing the sun rise in the horizon, Jeonghan’s eyes were down and sleepy. He fell asleep for a while and had a dream. It was about s, individually appearing in his dreams with sadness and tears on their faces.

 

“Don’t forget me.” Repeatedly, it was spoken. He was murmuring in his sleep and it bothered the others who were with him in the van.

 

“Jeonghan hyung.” Tapped Jun gently to wake him up. But his murmuring continued. One more try, and there Jeonghan finally woke up.

 

“Are you okay?” asked all of them.

 

It took a while for Jeonghan to answer “I’m fine. Don’t worry.”

 

“Are you having a bad dream?” asked Jihoon.

 

“Not a bad dream.” Jeonghan smiled, thinking that it wasn’t a dream but a memory. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

 

“Grab my hand if you are scared.” Said Seungcheol.

 

“Mine too.” offered the others. Seungcheol gave them a glaring look suspecting that there was jealousy in their offers.

 

“Kids, not time to compete.”

 

Jeonghan was clueless about the competition. He thought that it was just a term or so, but the others were fully aware of what exactly Seungcheol wanted to imply.

 

Running to their assigned dressing room with jolly and energetic kids producing annoying noises through the corridor of a warehouse-like setting, Seungcheol scolded. “Ya. Kids! Keep your pipes down. It’s early, don’t mess up with the mood, alright?”

 

The boys didn’t instantly became quiet but they did lower their voices down, so the staffs would have a peaceful start ahead. Meanwhile, as they move fast towards the room, Jeonghan took his time to walk instead. Seungcheol knew how he would move in such a time when it’s perfect to sleep but he had to work whether he liked it or not, so he waited for him, reached his hands waiting to be grabbed by a sloth beauty dragging himself in his half asleep thoughts. Soon enough, Jeonghan reached it as soon as he noticed it like it was a usual thing to do. Well, he’s not wrong. It was almost a habit for goodness sake that his body quickly reacted into the action.

 

Seungcheol smiled as he carefully dragged Jeonghan with him, holding his hands until they successfully went to the dressing room together. While the others came first on their make-up assignments, the others were back to sleep and that includes Jeonghan, the sleepy head.

Recording had started, each were given tasks and set-ups to play with. They shoot their choreography for many times just to capture the scene that they wanted to achieve. It was tiring, even for all of them. One staff delivered yogurt for refreshments. One wasn’t enough, but two, with water and bread for a pre-dinner consolation because after their short break, they would still film scenes. It was never easy to shoot for a music video. It’s like a rush movie. They’ve built many scenes only to cut them out when they were to be shown to the public. Of course, better have choices than nothing. As time passed by, the director and producers knew that their filming was going to be harder, since their actors were totally drained by now with their half opened eyes and yawning. The first person they saw was none other than their sick boy, Jeonghan who was leaning his head to a wall earlier and now to DK, in almost lying position.

 

“Guys, let’s resume!” shouted the director even though he wanted to skip the remaining for tomorrow because he had no choice since the production was in a tight budget. Prolonging the film wouldn’t help with it. Besides, the filming is on different location. Delaying was bad because of the assigned schedule per scene. They couldn’t change it anymore since the set ups were already done and ready to use.

 

The kids needs encouragement, so as their leader’s job, he boosts them even though he too wanted to go home. “Kids! We’re almost done. Fighting!”

 

Hoshi energized them by gathering his energy to his heart and shouted “Yes~ Fighting!”

 

The staffs brought them to a bright and a playground looking clouds, and it was enough to fascinate the kids and bring back their energy. Also, there were beds on the other side and another awesome set-ups like big sculptures and harness waiting for them.

 

“Woah! These are cool!” DK exclaimed.

 

The other boys too were fascinated and took a good examination of each. They’ve even chose their own and ideal bed for the first shooting. Though one seemed not interested in playing, but chose the one closer to him. Probably, not just in the mood to choose a good and comfy bed for him that night because it’s almost midnight and after dinner, so it made him much drowsy. Besides, its beds they’ve presented him. Moreover, seeing beds and cushion would only mean one thing for Jeonghan. It was to sleep.

 

Joshua noticed that he was just sitting his body slightly beside the first bed he‘d ever pass by. “Hey, Jeonghan-ah, can you still move?” assuming that his body was part paralyzed as he wanted to lay them on bed already.

 

The other nodded lazily, provided his adorableness.

 

Joshua chuckled and pushed Jeonghan’s forehead slightly up with his finger to meet his sleepy eyes. “Don’t worry, we’re almost done. Do you want something to eat?”

 

The sleeping beauty shook his head saying that he needed nothing, but his slouch was completely saying that he wanted to go to bed as soon as possible.

 

“Aigoo, Jeonghan. Do you want to eat ice cream?” since Joshua was trying to comfort him while the others were shooting for their own group scene, the others join him to persuade Jeonghan to push a little bit more of his strength so they could finish the activity that day.

 

“Maybe a stroll?” asked Seungkwan.

 

“How about ramen?” recommended Jihoon.

 

Well, it caught everyone’s attention and said to the still hungry little monster “You hungry again? We just had our dinner?” said Hoshi on the other side.

 

“Hyung, you need to open your eyes, it’s nearly our turn.” Said Minghao. “One last scene and we’re done for today.”

 

Little by little, the boys were piling on where Jeonghan was. It was just to keep him awake because they could see his eyes involuntarily shutting despite the boy’s willingness to respond.

 

“Hyung, there’s a rabbit over there!” Seungkwan said excitedly. It was not actually that there were rabbits on the set, but he did that in order to wake Jeonghan’s senses for something interesting. Unfortunately, that trick Seungkwan prepare did not fool Jeonghan’s senses but his other members’ instead. They stretched their necks to where Seungkwan’s hand was pointed to see the rabbit he’s saying.

 

“Where?” said Dino

 

“I don’t see anything.” Added Jun.

 

“You sure you see one? What’s the color?” Mingyu said while moving his neck a little higher hoping that he could see one.

 

Vernon on the other hand, thought that he saw a white one and followed it.

 

“Aigoo!” Seungkwan’s palm was slammed onto his face as he thought of s as a bunch of kinder students “Ya! Where are you going?” shouted him at Vernon who was already behind the wall searching for that small thing he believed he saw.

 

Meanwhile, Mingyu followed because, but of course, he’s a curious puppy. Miraculously, it also called Jeonghan’s attention as his eyes were following where Mingyu was going.

 

“What’s up? Is there really a bunny?” finally with fully opened beautiful eyes.

 

All looked at him and they were happy that that foolish tease was bought very effectively. Since their pretty angel was finally and again awoken fully, Seungkwan was ready to tell that it was a joke when “…Aaaaahhhhh!” shouted both of their foolish members.

 

“What was that?” Minghao kind of stumble to DK who was also slightly on his bended knees after the shocking shout.

 

“Oi, you two, get back here!” Shouted Seungcheol. “Don’t fool around, I said.”

 

Well, it was not necessary to repeat that scolding when the two ran faster than a bullet going back on their way to the members.

 

“These idiots.” Murmured Wonwoo after seeing them both run like those in the funny films.

 

“What happened? Why did you shout?” asked the brave Dino.

 

“There-there-“ Mingyu and Vernon said with a rattle voice.

 

“What?” asked Jeonghan with, now, fully awakened spirit. “Did you see something?”

 

“There’s a snake on a ghost!” Said Vernon hastily spurted with scared tone.

 

“What?!” said SeokMin who was already frightened with what they’ve said.

 

“Ya. It can’t be.” said Hoshi convincing himself that it was a prank.

 

“No. We saw it.” Mingyu defended what Vernon had said with a trembling voice, and considering his long feeble legs.

 

“Tsk.” Jihoon scoffed in absurdity. “You idiots are just making stories.”

 

“But it’s Vernon saying it.” Said Jun in the middle of their recovery with fear due to the news Vernon and Mingyu had delivered. Jun believed that Vernon wasn’t the kind of person to play with pranks, especially this obvious prank. No one would believe it if it’s Mingyu alone who said it or Seungkwan or anybody else, But Vernon? This scared? Unless it was acting. Jun would credit him as a best actor, even give him a star in Hollywood hall of fame if he could.

 

“What do you mean?” said SeokMIn.

 

“What I mean is why Vernon would drag himself into this kind of prank. It’s not like him.” said Jun innocently.

 

Well, they got the whole point, but the members believed that it was just a very realistic prank and decided to just get over it, but one member got curious even though he was frightened. Dino, there maknae, went close to that place without the others noticing him. Though, as soon as Jeonghan saw the little boy going with his brave guts into somewhere scary, he got curious and follow. When they’re about to reach the hidden place behind the wall, the lights flicker all over the area and that’s where the fear burst into shout. The members find each a buddy to cuddle. Jeonghan was with the maknae, while Seungcheol came to jump on Joshua, Mingyu and Hoshi climbed to Wonwoo, Jun knelt and embrace Jihoon like a koala, Vernon was cuddling Minghao at the same time, and DK curled himself into the floor with trembling body.

 

“What was that?” cried the boys, even their bravest screamed in fear. The staffs, on the other hand, was influenced by their scared shout.

 

“Ya. Don’t fool around, boys. It’s just a flicker. These kids!” Their manager scolded. “I don’t know why’d you freak yourselves out of a short flicker.”

 

Another flicker had gone, and finally a very short black out came in their fear. Goodness! Why do those things strangely happen when you think of it? Fear spread and they never loosen up their embraces with their other member. DK found someone to cuddle and his movements made the others more frightened. Too bad when the night seemed to play with the boys that some time, thunder and lightning came to surprise them.

 

Jeonghan and Dino, who were still on that position close to where Mingyu and Vernon shout, saw a white thing outstanding in the dark. Like what Mingyu and Vernon did, they shouted their lungs out before the power came once again.

 

“Yaaaaa!” shouted their old time manager. “What’s the noise about?”

 

“Manager, th-there’s a” Dino spoke while his face was buried on Jeonghan’s chest in fright. “There’s a ghost!”

 

And well, who would think now that it wasn’t real when 4 people came to give their statement with such a genuine expression.

 

“What?”

 

“Manager, let’s get out of here.” Mingyu pleaded.

 

“Can we continue this tomorrow?” suggested Seungcheol- their coward leader when it comes to paranormal things.

 

“No. Don’t believe in that. That’s foolish.”

 

“But we saw it, manager.” Vernon spoke.

 

The manager would like to prove that they were wrong and it was just their very wild imagination, so he came to see. He’s a bit surprised by backing a little bit, but he continued walking to prove that they were wrong.

 

“Ya!” he shouted from behind the walls. “This is just a fabric.” Finally, he went out to show it to them, though it felt a little heavy and bulky.

 

Meanwhile, in the midst of adopting to the relief that it wasn’t a ghost, their eyes were enlarged as they shouted. “Hyung! Snake!”

 

O god! If it was snake, their brave manager had the right to be scared. When he saw a large snake, he threw it away and ran as fast as he could. This was where the tremendous ruckus happened. They ran throughout the place, not knowing which direction to run to. Even the camera man and the director and producers see themselves out of their spot in fear of a very huge snake when it crawled so fast, assuming that it was hungry.

 

All of them evacuated the place and called an emergency. Was there some snake fighter? Goodness! It’s really scary and troublesome.

 

Despite their cool image, the boys were bundled with their hands tight. What a bunch of large ants piling outside the scary warehouse. “Ya, should we get into the van?” suggested their leader, and all automatically or rather hastily run back to their van to feel safe.

 

“That’s scary.” Sighed Soon Young while feeling his fast heartbeat.

 

“We should keep ourselves calm for now. What an experience.” Said Minghao.

 

Would you believe that the 13 of them were inside one van, the closest, and fit themselves in in panic?

 

“You okay?” asked Joshua who could barely positioned himself to a chair with half of his body suspended in the air.

 

After spending time looking at their situation, they all laughed seeing each of them in such an unimaginable situation. Bodies were everywhere and the van was full. They looked like an idiot looking at each other with their bodies in an unconventional style. Some were sitting on the other’s lap- which was the most normal view you could see in that scenery. Some were squatting, facing another’s . Some positioned themselves like lizards on the walls of the van. Some faces were close to each other. One was lying down to the lap of the other members who successfully seated on the chair. One fit himself in between the chairs and other more varieties of acrobatic position. Dynamic it is.

 

“Everybody okay?” asked Seungcheol.

 

“Yeah. Except we are in tangle.” Giggled Wonwoo- the one who suits himself lying on three pair of thighs.

 

Later on, there was lightning and thunder and the flash was beyond their expectation. Why rain now? They were completely shocked. And with their shout contained inside the van, they experienced a thunder with speaker concentrating inside that small space.

 

It hurts, honestly. It was louder and it had echoed so fast to their ears given that the sound had no room to travel and spread.

 

“Damn! That hurts.” Uttered Jihoon while holding his ears tight.

 

Then, they could hear and see the strong gush of the rain rushing to their window.

 

“Now, we are stuck.” Sighed Dino who was contained in between the seats and two pair of thighs.

 

“This is a serious situation guys. Let’s first make ourselves comfortable. Let’s fix our position.” Instructed Coups.

 

Jeonghan was heard laughing. It started as a giggle and slowly turned into laughter. It was a sweet giggle and it was contagious. Alright, Jeonghan, spread the laughter virus.

 

The first one to smile was Mingyu. The first one to laugh was Seungkwan until they all became one. They started fixing themselves without opening the door of the van to avoid getting wet because if they would, it would take time for them to change their clothes and fix their hair and make-up again.

 

It took them a while, but finally, arranging themselves a little more comfortable than before. They had now a slightly normal position with one sitting on another.

 

Seungcheol had the duty to call for their manager whom also stuck inside another van, including their new startled manager- Manager Jeon.

 

“Manager, how is it going their?” asked Seungcheol.

 

“We are all inside the van. Where are you?”

 

“Also inside the van.”

 

“How many are you inside? Do you know where the others are? I’m trying to call Seungkwan but he’s not answering. Are you with him?”

 

“We are all inside the van.”

 

“Who’s with you?”

 

“All of us.” Answered Seungcheol with giggle.

 

“Oh!” followed by a chuckle. “I didn’t know you can fit your bodies in one van. That’d be nice though.” He teased.

 

“Rescue us.” Pleaded Cheol cutely.

 

But one moment, a sudden thud surprised them again. Minghao was the one whose voice screamed louder than the others. Why? Because he and Jun were the ones who were near the window and the one who’s closest to the disturbed window. Though Jun hadn’t seen anything but a freaked out movement from his friend- his concern was his legs because Minghao forgot that he’s sitting on him and it hurts too when he moves due to his bone structure hitting his muscles- getting startled on how Minghao reacted came second.

 

“What is it?” they all asked in unison.

 

“Th-there’s…” Minghao feeling light headed of what happened, sensing that half of soul had left him, shuddered.

 

“Why? Are you okay?” concerned Jeonghan who was right beside him and Mingyu being his large couch.

 

“C-can we go now?” Minghao requested instead.

 

“Why? Why?” asked his dongsaengs.

 

“There’s a-“ still couldn’t say what really happened. “Please let’s drive away. Hurry!” Said he with fright.

 

“Why? Why? Why?” Seungcheol stated in panic not knowing why he’s acting like that. He gets easily scared, by the way, and he could easily panic as well.

 

“Hyung. Just drive away.”

 

Their leader was alerted with what Minghao has been requesting. Since he was near the steering wheel, being he’s positioned himself there alone for convenience, hit the start button of the car- thank goodness, the key was there- and immediately pressed the accelerator yet slowly.

 

On the other hand, the managers and the others-the crew- were surprised that a car started moving. Still on the phone, the manager called the panicking leader of Seventeen. “Seungcheol! Are you the one driving? Where are you going?”

 

“Just moving a bit. Minghao is scared.”

 

“Why? What’s happening? Is the snake there?”

 

“I don’t know. He won’t tell but-“ Seungcheol’s words were cut once again when another thud was heard. That time, it was right in front of him. It scared all of them when a mark of a human hand was seen for a matter of second, like there has been someone pressing his hand on their windshield.

 

“!” cursed Soon Young who clearly saw it with his eyes wide open. While the others who witnessed it were somehow in a state of shock, unable to utter words.

 

When one finally shouted, that was Seungcheol, everybody followed.

 

“What was that?” asked their manager in fear while seeing car driving fast backwards all of a sudden. “Hey! Everything alright?” No one was answering properly. All they could hear was scream- a loud one. That’s when their managers decided to go out and knock to their door to confirm whatever was happening to their boys.

 

Meanwhile, back inside the van, everyone huddled up. Seventeen was back to their messy position. Much messier than before as they tangled themselves up as if no one could break them with their tight embrace.

 

“Hyung…” called Soon Young with his shaky and terrified voice. The others followed.

 

“What are we gonna do?” asked Seungkwan worriedly, seeing DK almost in tears in fear. Same with their Hoshi. Not to mention Cheol, who’s trying to be sane while his organs were already in chaos.

 

“Hey, I think we better be brave.” Suggested a calm and gentle voice coming from Jeonghan.

 

“Hyung, we are scared.” Answered Mingyu- the tall puppy who’s hands were wrapped tightly to Jeonghan’s small frame.

 

Jeonghan smiled despite being scared too. He smiled because in that one event, Jeonghan felt that he’s getting closer to them already. It was a terrifying paranormal occurrence, but Jeonghan was somehow enjoying their reaction including his.

 

“We can do this.” Jeonghan cheered everyone, as well as, him. “Let’s sit down properly again so we can think.”

 

“I can’t think. I can’t feel my brain.” Uttered Jun.

 

“Must be eaten already.” Said Jihoon, scaring them more. “Maybe there has been a zombie out there.” He teased.

 

“Hyung!” Seungkwan reprimanded while holding his head, as if he was protecting it from getting eaten by the zombies, while Jihoon giggled.

 

“I’m seriously scared.” Said Minghao with his weak scared voice.

 

“Let me see first.” Volunteered Jeonghan bravely, though he could feel his heart beating so fast.

 

Wonwoo spoke none but he also took a glance of whatever was happening. Just that, they both forgot to wear contacts, so basically, if they see something, they could only glance into a silhouette.

 

After a brief flash of lightning, Jeonghan and Wonwoo both saw a figure right in front of them. They don’t usually shout, but that time, they screamed all frightened and shaking.

 

“What is it?” asked Dino in rush and accidentally lifted his head to have a peak. “Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” he screamed with a low voice.

 

“Ya! Don’t look, you squirt!” Seungcheol reprimanded.

 

“Dino, tell me what you see.” Asked Joshua calmly.

 

“A lady. A lady in white!” with a totally scared and uneasy tone.

 

“Yaaaaa! Don’t say anything anymore!” the others shouted.

 

The curious Vernon took a good look of what was really happening. People don’t learn unless they experience it, weren’t they? He took a glance in front, but she showed at the sides. Vernon immediately returned in the flock, bumping DK’s head as well as Joshua’s in domino effect.

 

“Sh-she’s real.” Vernon stuttered as he delivered.

 

“You see her face?” asked Jeonghan curiously.

 

“No. She- she doesn’t have one. I mean she has but it’s black. I don’t know.” Vernon stated like losing his mind over what he saw.

 

“Aisshhh-!” almost everyone cursed.

 

“Why do you have to look at it?” Seungkwan scolded.

 

Now their hands were cold. One thud and they felt their bodies paralyzed. She’s been persistent and nobody was rescuing them. Numerous accounts of hitting the car, even felt the pressure was experienced. It was real and they were undeniably scared. Even their bravest was crumbling down. One moment, it’s beginning to get scarier when the horn of the car echoed. Damn! It’s really happening. Even the managers who were about to open the car was startled with the sudden beeping of their car.

 

Moreover, the sudden opening of the car door intensify the fear, Seventeen was experiencing. This time, it was their manager who opened it.

 

DK almost passed out when that happened. He felt crazy light headed, as well as Minghao, Seungkwan, Hoshi and their leader, Seungcheol.

 

Jihoon caught the manager’s eyes, frowning his brows with a pout because he got really scared. Only to find out that it was manager. That was a relief somehow.

 

“What’s happening?” asked their manager seeing how they could be even more chaotic in such a small space. On the other hand, the other managers, including Manager Jeon- the new comer- exhibit the same reaction as the senior manager.

 

Seventeen looked like a tangled bundle of large yarns with their position.

 

Wonwoo dared to peek and said “It’s our managers!” he reported.

 

“Hyuuuuuuuuuuuuung!” they all rushed out as soon as they saw a human at last.

 

“What happened to you?”

 

“We’ve seen scary things.” Dino reported like a child.

 

“What kind?” asked the other manager.

 

“A-a” Dino hesitated speaking as he was scared that ‘She’ would come out showing herself again.

 

“A what?”

 

“We saw a ghost.” Vernon revealed bluntly.

 

“What?!”

 

“Shh! don’t speak of her anymore. She might come out.” Seungkwan slapped his friend from what he revealed.

 

“Manager, can we get out of here?” asked Jun suddenly after looking back.

 

“We haven’t finished yet.” Said their manager while noticing that they were all scared. It’s not that they pulled a prank like this serious. Well, they had their mistake earlier when they really saw a snake, but ghost? Maybe not buying it.

 

“Stop this nonsense. We are not going home unless you are done.”

 

Then one manager scolded them from what they’ve done with the van because it was very dangerous. However, they kept on saying the same things all over again. Even Jihoon defended them all once. Must be true then.

 

“Let’s see what we can do.” Said their newest manager to lighten up the mood.

 

Oh, such an angel! They were grateful that manager Jeon showed up and he even acted he cared, even though the boys looked absurd.

 

“Can we go home?” DK seemed not feeling well with his pale complexion.

 

Guess they didn’t have a choice. DK with some members really looked unwell that time. Besides, it might take them long because they needed to secure the warehouse for safety. Might as well go back home and rest.

 

Finally, they decided to go home first with the confirmation of the director and the team to check upon the place first before continuing. Also, they had to talk to the owner to raise the matter.

 

Going home riding their respective vans with their managers driving them, they became at peace- somehow, not completely because there’s still fear in their hearts. Just that, one time, when Manager Jeon tried to look at the side mirror to check the sides of the car, he saw an image of a woman with his long dark hair in white floating near the tree where they parked the car and suddenly hit the breaks, also, startling the vocal team in his care. On the other hand, the vans next to them which were the hip hop and performance team stopped as soon as possible to avoid crashing on each other’s cars.

 

“What is it this time?” murmured their long running manager.

 

Meanwhile, inside the vocal team’s van, Manager Jeon remained silent while calming himself. He didn’t want to look back but he needed to look for the members.

 

“Sorry. You alright?” asking the others out. And then, lying about the reason why. Thank goodness everyone was safe.

 

A few minutes after getting home, Seventeen received a text message that their shooting would be located on a different place. Thanks to Manager Jeon who confirmed what they’re saying. The crew became scared and never again plan to choose that location for shooting. Never!

Hope this episode gives you chills because it did to me. It was simple, I know, but when I am doing it- ctually at night- when I wrote the flicker, our lights flickered, when I finally wrote rain, it rained. And when I wrote lightning and thunder… it really came surprising me. I had to stop doing this for a while because I’m scared. I needed to do this in the morning because it’s making me paranoid alright??? That’s the reason why it took me too long because day time won’t give me the vibe. Hahaha! But enjoy!
