Chapter 22

Still Not Enough for You

Two weeks and a whole lot of paperwork and designing later, I could finally relax a little bit. It didn’t quite occur to me that three days off from work is worth a week’s paperwork and another week’s designs. I guess it’s probably because I’ve never taken any long break from work before, this is by far the longest break I’ve ever taken in my entire career.

All these years of working, I’ve come to hate abandoning my work or postponing it. It’s basically the only way I can do in order to balance up all my work. It’s either that or work on everything in advance – nothing in between.

As for Jiyong and Taeyang, I haven’t seen nor heard that much from them. I guess they’re equally busy like me. Well, except for Jiyong – I guess he’s extra busy since he has a girlfriend to entertain too. I almost couldn’t resist the urge to roll my eyes just by the thought of it. I will give him a credit for being a patience person since he could cope up with her for this long.

As far as I see, she’s the type of girl who is rich and a spoiled brat. Although it may not seem like that because of her professionalism cover, I could see it through her. I may or may not been gifted the skill to analyze people. But maybe she isn’t what I thought she is? Maybe there’s more to her that people don’t know.

Speaking of them, I’m supposed to meet them for another project meeting today. I can now proudly say that I’ve finally finished making the changes that Jiyong wanted to the designs and even come up with a few more new ones. With all those dramas that happened, I haven’t been able to touch my sketchbook.

We agreed on having the meeting early in the morning since Jiyong has another meeting to attend after that. I take a sip of my hot cappuccino. It’s a good thing that I bought a coffee maker so I could easily make a hot cappuccino instead of having to walk all the way to Starbucks or other coffee shop. A caffeine intake is what I really need right now or else, my mind would not function properly.

I mean, who the hell would schedule a meeting this early? It’s barely even eight in the morning. But then again, it’s Jiyong. I almost forgot that he is the guy who broke the record for attending countless meetings in a day. That guy could schedule his first meeting at dawn if he wants to.

If it weren’t for the sake of our project, I would never ever agree to have a meeting this early. I even need to wake up extra early from my usual wake up time. And if you haven’t figured it out yet, I hate waking up early with a burning passion.

I stand up from my seat and went to check my look on the full-body mirror. Making sure that I don’t look hideous or zombie-like since I barely could open my eyes when I get ready this morning.

I would totally make a fool out of myself if it turns out that I draw my eyebrows unevenly or that I used my eyebrow pencil as a lip liner or worse, I could’ve gotten mixed up between my mascara and my liquid lipstick. Who knows I end up using my liquid lipstick as mascara or vice versa. Don’t blame me though, I was still half dreaming and both of them look similar.

But thank God, that was just my mind panicking and exaggerating. I look perfectly fine when I look at myself in the mirror. No makeup or wardrobe malfunction – I exhale a relief breath. I turn left and right to check my clothes around my back to make sure everything is in place and neat. They should be here in any minute now.

And as if my thoughts work as a cue, I hear a knock on the door.

Instead of yelling “come in!” like I usually do whenever someone knocks at the door, I walk towards it and open it myself.

I was greeted by Dara’s startled face, probably because I swung the door open suddenly. Behind her, I can see Chaerin waving at me happily when she sees me and Taeyang also flash me his infamous eye smile. Jiyong was looking somewhere else with his phone pressed on his left ear, talking about some business stuff, but he immediately turns around to face me after he heard I opened the door.

I heard him muttering “I’ll call back later” before he hangs up the call and smile happily upon seeing me, like I’m the oasis that he finally found after strolling thirstily for a long time in the desert.

“They’re here” Dara said as she gains back her composure.

“Thank you” I smile at Dara and proceed to let the others in to my office.

I held the door open as all of them walk inside one after another, each greeting me as they pass me.

I close the door once they have all gathered inside. I saw that they immediately settle themselves down on the couch, feeling comfortable as if they’re at home. I couldn’t help the small smile that forms on my lips as I watch them.

“Morning everyone,” I said as I approached them. “It’s good to see you guys again”

“I miss you Bom!” Chaerin bounce up and down a little in her seat, like a kid who eagerly wants the candies to be distributed to her. “How come these guys get to meet you in Japan and I don’t??” she pouts.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at her, I’m happy to see how we have gotten closer than before. Who would’ve thought that the professional assistant of Jiyong could act this childish?

Her act kind of reminds me of Seungri, Jiyong’s assistant before. He was very childish too, just like Chaerin. He would always complain to me and even seeking for my mercy to help him whenever Jiyong is being an , scolding and ordering him to do extra work from what he usually does.

He would also come running to me and tell me that he misses me whenever I didn’t come to Jiyong’s office after a while. He’s basically the perfect resemblance of a five years old kid trapped inside an adult’s body. Even until now, I still believe that there is a kid’s soul trapped inside his body and that his actual soul is still somewhere else.

But come to think of it, I haven’t seen him for a long time now. It didn’t occur to me that Jiyong has changed his assistant now. I couldn’t help but to wonder what happened and where he is now. I made a mental note to myself to ask Jiyong about it later, but for now, I need to focus on the meeting.

“I miss you too, Chae” I chuckle, “you should kick their for not inviting you to see me in Japan”

“Hey! I don’t even know that I will meet her there” Jiyong protests and Chaerin shot him a glare. I love how Jiyong always manage to have a friendly and close relationship with his assistants, even with Seungri before. Both of them are more like friends instead of co-workers.

We all catch up for a few minutes before I finally start the meeting. I know we don’t have all the time in the world keep on chitchatting as much as we love to.

As soon as I declare the start of our meeting, no more laughters and jokes can be heard, even Chaerin is no longer the childish Chaerin. And as if they can shapeshift into another person, they all turn into a professional and serious person – the one that says ‘I’m here for business’.

I would be lying if the meeting goes smoothly without anyone bickering or throwing claims at each other over whose idea is the best one, because it doesn’t. As professional as they seem, they still bicker like two competitive immature brothers. I literally look like a parent watching my two sons bickering in front of me.

‘Jiyong’ and ‘perfectionist’ are already the two words that are forbidden to be together in a sentence. But somehow, Taeyang’s stubbornness managed to find a way to squeeze in to the sentence, making it worse. This look just like our first meeting together.

I look over to Chaerin who is sitting beside me and she doesn’t look like she’s bothered with the war that is happening in front of us. In fact, she kind of look... bored? As if this is not something new to her anymore. She just sits calmly, looking at them while playing a pen with her fingers.

I look at her with the ‘what the ’ expression for a few seconds before realizing that she must’ve gotten used to seeing this. After all, she has been to every single meeting that Jiyong attends. So seeing Jiyong being all perfectionist and stubborn is definitely not a new thing for her anymore.

“I told you, this design is the one” I heard Jiyong said while pointing at the design that I made, “then we can add our signature details to it” but Taeyang seems to disagree with it. And they go on bickering again.

I sighed.

If this war is going to happen every time we held a meeting, I might as well bring a popcorn beforehand.

Two hours passed already and for the last one hour they have been bickering non-stop. I’m starting to get a headache because of them and it's really starting to get under my skin.

I don’t know how Chaerin managed to stay calm and act like their bickering isn’t bothering her but she needs to teach me that skill. I’m already on the verge of taping their mouth shut and lock them away in some closet or what.

I glance at my wristwatch to check the clock and it’s already around 9 in the morning. Jiyong has to go on another meeting around 10.30, which means we’re only left with an hour or less now. I can’t risk this anymore; I can’t have them bickering until the time is up.

They still haven’t make up their mind about the designs yet and we still need to discuss about the further details once they choose which design of mine to go with. Judging from how they are during meetings, I don’t think we will be able to finish today’s discussion in just one-hour period.

Screw this.

This has to stop right now and it will apply for the rest of our meetings in the future too.
