Chapter 19 – Choices and Decisions

The shock, surprise and the realization of the possible implications of what they discovered are clearly written not just on Si Jin and Mo Yeon’s faces but also with the other occupants of the room. Si Jin was about to say something when a child’s cry was heard and Jin Woo’s voice calling out “Mommy” was heard. Si Jin and Mo Yeon looked at each other worry etched on their faces and without much prodding Mo Yeon stood up and went to Jin Woo’s room. Si Jin looked at her departing form before facing his team again with a grim look on his face.

“Do you think Director Jung have something to do with the syndicate?” Dae Young voiced out the question that is on everyone’s mind.

Si Jin leaned back on his seat and with a thoughtful expression on his face replied, “Possibly. However, we need to investigate further. Some things don’t make sense to me.” He then turned his attention towards Ahn Jung-joon, “Maverick, gather more information on Director Jung Sung-hoon, Atty. Jung Ji Hoon and Director Jung’s assistant Kim Sung-min anything you can find out about them. I want the data in my hands within 24 hours.” He then faced Snoopy and said, “Help Maverick on this one.”

“Yes Sir” both men answered and made their way to leave the room.

Si Jin then turned his attention to Harry Potter and Piccolo, “The two of you are assigned as security detail for Beauty and Little Boss.”

The two men then let out boyish grins upon hearing what he said. Si Jin noticed it and commented, “Seems like both of you are happy with your assignment. Do you think it is easy?”

It was Piccolo who answered, “No Sir. We both know it isn’t easy as we know how important Beauty and Little Boss is to you.”

“But Sir we are just happy because we actually enjoy Little Boss’s company. He is really a fun kid to be with” Harry Potter interjected.

Si Jin’s face visibly brightened upon hearing what his teammates said about his son. He looked at the glass window and noticed that Jin Woo is far calmer now as Mo Yeon sat beside the child while reading a book to him. He could see Jin Woo’s animated reactions as he listened to what his mother is saying.  The scene warmed his heart and a smile spread across his face. His reverie was broken when someone in the receiving area spoke up.

“Boss would you want me to buy some food for all of us? Jin Woo might be hungry already” Ja-ae asked.

He turned towards Ja-ae and with a grateful smile said, “That would be great. Bring Min-ji, Harry Potter and Piccolo with you. Wolf and I will stay here and keep an eye on Mo Yeon and Jin Woo.”

“Alright Boss,” Ja-ae answered. The assistant then called Min-ji and as soon as the four went out of the room. Si Jin then faced Dae Young and said, “Wolf I want you to investigate on Han Yoo Ri and her father, Officer Han Byung Hun. I believe we just scratched the surface with what we found out.”

Dae Young nodded, “Don’t worry Big Boss I’m on it.” Wolf then faced his friend, tilted his head towards Mo Yeon’s and Jin Woo’s direction and asked, “So what do you plan to do with them now? Are you going to push through with that?”

Si Jin took a deep breath. He knows what his friend is talking about. Just thinking about the possibility that he may have to push through with his plan is breaking his heart into pieces however Mo Yeon and Jin Woo’s safety is his priority and no one will stop him from ensuring such. He reached into his pocket, got his phone and dialed someone’s number. They have a lot to discuss.           

Si Jin and Young-geun watched from the receiving area as the remaining members of the Alpha Team, Min-ji, Ja-ae are merrily chatting inside Jin Woo’s room entertaining the child with their antics. It proved to be effective as Jin Woo laughed merrily while watching his aunts and uncles make funny faces and play with him. Si Jin can’t help getting misty eyed as he saw Jin Woo stand up on his bed and hugged Mo Yeon, his son smiling brightly at his mother. Mo Yeon for her part was also beaming and the mother and son pair smacked each other on the lips. The scene brought a smile on his face and Si Jin etched the memory on his mind. As if sensing that they are being watched, the mother and son pair both turned their attention towards the receiving area and saw Si Jin watching them. The two then merrily waved at him and he swallowed hard to hide the other emotions he’s feeling and waved back, a smile plastered on his face. His father who has been quietly observing him then asked,

“Are you sure about pushing through with the plan? I know how much you’ve looked forward to being with them” Young-geun then tilted his towards Mo Yeon’s and Jin Woo’s direction. His father then continued, “With what you’re about to do you don’t know when this will happen again.”

Si Jin drew a shaky breath and Young-geun knew that his son is in pain. The younger man then replied, “I know Father. But I’d rather do this instead of having them nearby but living with the fear that something might happen to them.” Si Jin then looked at his father, “And I’m more at ease knowing that you will be there to look after them.”

Young-geun smiled at what his son said and handed him a brown envelope. “These are the documents that you asked me to prepare in the event that you decide to push through with what we’ve discussed before. I’ve made the necessary arrangements already. Just give me a call if you think there’s anything I missed.” Si Jin reached out for the envelope and accepted it gratefully. His father then placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and stood up, “I better go inside and play with Jin Woo. I don’t want Mo Yeon to notice that something’s amiss. It’s hard to keep things from her.”

Si Jin nodded in understanding and gave his father a grateful smile. He watched as the older man entered his son’s room and joined the fun activities of the room’s occupants. His hands then clutched tightly on the envelope that his father handed him. The documents it contains will change his two angels’ lives forever but he felt that this is for the best. He hopes that he will be able to make Mo Yeon see it that way and prays that she will understand the choices and decisions he made.

Mo Yeon’s feeling restless as she could sense that something’s not right with Si Jin. She understands that what they found out is definitely bothersome as it further threw them to the unknown but her intuition’s telling her that something else is bothering the man, she just couldn’t pinpoint exactly what. She was deep in thought that’s why she was surprised when Si Jin suddenly hugged her from behind.

Si Jin kissed her on the cheek and asked, “Seems like you’re very preoccupied. What are you thinking?”
