Scene 20
StarStruckEunsung’s declaration nearly knocked the wind out of me.
“You park in no-parking zones, you never have to wait in line, you buy anything you want, anytime. Your house is like a hotel. You have so many people working for you, and--” she stopped, shaking her head. “I’ll bet you don’t even know their names.”
I scoffed confidently. “Do, too.”
“Name one.”
When I realized I didn’t know anybody by name, I quickly said the first name to pop up in my mind. “Bob.”
“You just made that up.”
My smirk dropped. “Well, okay, Chanyeol knows everybody,” I admitted. “That’s his job.”
“See, that’s not normal,” she said, beginning to walk, forcing me to walk backwards again. “Okay, your best friend is your driver, your parents are on your payroll, and your girlfriend--” When she stopped walking again, I did too. Eunsung rolled her eyes as she continued, “I mean, real people date someone because they want to be with them. Why are you with Areum?”
I began stammering, “Cause--” but stopped. Why was I dating her? I tried to remember how we even began dating or why I thought I liked her. But I couldn’t think up a single reason. Eunsung smirked triumphantly at my silence. “That’s all I’m saying.” She walked around me, leaving me to my thoughts.
Wanting to redeem myself, I ran after her again. “Wait, wait, wait. Hold on, hold on,” I said as I ran in front of her to stop her. “Wait. Stop. What-- Are you saying I’m not a real person? Because I am.”
“Oh, I stand corrected.” For the third time, she continued walking without letting me finish.
“Well, all right. Well, what if I told you something about me that no one else knew?” I tried.
“You collect your toenails in a peanut butter jar?” she guessed sarcastically as she climbed over a fallen tree.
“No. What...no.”
“Then what?”
I hurried to run in front of her again. I began walking backwards into tall grass and cattails. “Well, from the first day I met you, I just-- Whoa!” I tripped backwards and disappeared into the waving weeds.
“Baekhyun!” I heard Eunsung cry in horror. I had only fallen into a small pond, but I decided to prank her. I lunged out and grabbed her with a, “Rawr!” and pulled her into the water with me. She exclaimed loudly as she fell into the pond. With her eyes shut, she began to c
