Jungkook, Taehyung and Kelly sat in Taehyung’s bedroom, going over a group project from school. They had been working on it for some hours now, and their patience was wearing thin. Group projects could be annoying anyway, so they had decided to work in silence and just get it done rather than argue over it for hours. Kelly was the first one to finish her portion of the project. She packed up her things and rested back into the comfy sofa. On second thought, she decided to lightly put her head on Taehyung’s shoulder, who sat right next to her. Kelly knew her cheeks were burning, but she closed her eyes and pretended like it was the most normal thing to lean against Taehyung. After a lot of thinking, she had decided to do something about her years long crush. I am independent and self-confident; I don’t need a boy to chase me. I’ll go after what I want, and if the answer is no, well, at least I tried, instead of sitting and staring at him like a weirdo like I have been for past so many years.

Taehyung almost jumped when he felt Kelly’s forehead against his shoulder. He didn’t push her away, since it didn’t annoy him or anything. It did take him by surprise though. Kelly was a good friend of his, even though didn’t spend too much time together. He still remembered meeting her when they were kids, and the memory still made him smile. She was a fierce kid with wild red hair and an aptitude for swear words and fighting bullies. In fact, she began a club in school where kids who had been bullied could come together and talk, and she led several anti-bullying programs in school. This had evolved into a love for spending time with children, and that’s why Kelly wanted to be a teacher or a school counselor. She hoped to be a caring, responsible adult who could support lonely and bullied children.

Jungkook saw Kelly napping on Taehyung’s shoulder and raised his eyebrows at him, who responded with a shrug and blushing cheeks. Jungkook just shook his head, smiling. He had begun to suspect that Kelly thought of Taehyung as more than just a friend, and his suspicion was being confirmed almost every day. She would put extra effort into looking nice, and try to sit next to Taehyung in class, which was actually Jungkook’s spot- but he really didn’t mind. She would get Taehyung extra food sometimes, and she always remembered his favorite order of coffee with lots of syrup and whipped cream. She had also begun to take more interest in Taehyung’s favorite music and movies, and though she was a good friend to Jungkook too, Jungkook knew he was being somewhat of a third wheel sometimes. Maybe I could ask her the truth sometime, Jungkook thought. He finished up his part of the project too and decided to leave for the night. Give the two some one-on-one time.

“Jungkook! You’re going already?” Taehyung exclaimed, and began to rise a bit from his seat. That forced Kelly to open her eyes and sit up straight, her cheeks bright red.

“Yeah, dad needs help with the plumbing in his bathroom. I thought I’d go help him.” Jungkook replied, pursing his lips to not laugh at the two blushing people in front of him. He wasn’t sure what Taehyung felt for Kelly, but until he knew for sure, the awkward yet cute interactions were hilarious for him.

“Oh okay, since Kelly’s done too, do you mind walking her home?” Taehyung stammered.

Jungkook almost face-palmed himself. Seriously Taehyung?

Kelly’s face was redder than a firetruck now and you could sense how badly she wanted to shake Taehyung’s shoulders. REALLY NOW, KIM TAEHYUNG??

“Um, I would,” Jungkook said, grasping for an excuse. “I just need to hurry home. Sorry Kelly. Gotta go, bye!”

With that Jungkook skipped out the room, his bad swinging on his shoulders. That left Taehyung and Kelly in a weird silence that neither of them were enjoying. Kelly decided to break it.

“How long until you’re done with the project? Do you want me to help a bit?”

Taehyung shook his head. “No, it’s not fair to you, I need to finish this by myself…”

“I really don’t mind,” Kelly said, reaching out for the sheets of notes. Taehyung didn’t pull his hand back fast enough, and Kelly ended up grabbing some of his fingers. They pulled back from each other like they had been hit by lightning. Kelly wanted to melt into a puddle and never appear into the world again. Ugh, why does life have to be so embarrassing?! Taehyung was redder than ever, and he leaned back, staring at his laptop screen like it was the most amazing thing in the world. Why am I being so awkward? Kelly and I touched each other’s hands by mistake. No big deal. Why do I feel like disappearing into thin air?

Kelly pushed her long hair behind her shoulders and sighed. “Sorry,” she said. “So, where were you? Are you done with the second section?”

Taehyung was grateful for the change in subject. He pulled up his notes again and began to scan them. “Yeah, section 2 is done. I am almost done with section 3, and then I just have the conclusion to write. Do you think I could have a look at your class notes?”

Kelly was about to reply when her phone rang. She wordlessly handed Taehyung her notes and looked at the caller ID. Seunghyun oppa. She answered the phone.

“Oppa?”

“Tulips or daffodils?”

“…what?”

Seunghyun sighed through the phone. “Tulips or daffodils. Which of the two do you think are better for a bouquet?”

“…a bouquet?! You’re buying a bouquet? Why?”

“Just help me little sister. Kinda in a hurry right now.”

“Oppa, I need to know what it is for, before I pick the flowers.”

“Wait, is the purpose that important?” Seunghyun asked, his confusion apparent.

“Um, yes,” Kelly replied. “Goodness, is this your first time ever, buying a bouquet?”

“…yes.”

Kelly chuckled. “Alrighty, what is it for?”

Seunghyun didn’t answer right away. After a pause he said, “For someone.”

“Mother of surprises. Here I was thinking you want it for dad’s pet cat.”

“Jeez Kelly. I… okay. It’s for someone I kinda like.”

“Like like or like like?”

“What in the world does that even mean...”

“…wait. Is this for that girl you went on a date with?! Holy !”

Taehyung couldn’t help but chuckle. Kelly swearing was still so funny for him. She was little and cute, and she had a huge temper and used swear words. It made him laugh.

Kelly kicked him under the table as Seunghyun replied over the phone. “Kelly you talk too much, why did I even call you…”

“Do you want my help or not?” Kelly was trying hard to not laugh as well.

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Fine, it’s for that person, alright? Tulips or daffodils?”

“Neither,” Kelly responded, smiling. “Get roses, you silly. She’ll love them.”

“Roses?” Seunghyun stammered. “Isn’t that a bit too much?”

“Nah, get pink ones instead of red and you’re all set. Let me know how she likes them, yea?”

“God, Kelly. I’m outta here.” Seunghyun replied, hanging up. Kelly leaned back, laughing. Taehyung turned towards her, grinning.

“Seunghyun’s got a girlfriend?”

“Seems like it,” Kelly replied. “I wish I could find out what crazy agreed to date him.” Taehyung laughed aloud at that and lost his balance, and his shoulders ended up falling against Kelly’s. He began to sit back up, but then stopped. Kelly looked back at him, smiling. “It’s okay, I don’t mind,” she said softly. “I don’t bite either,” she added with a smile. Taehyung nodded at her. “I know,” he said. He put his arm around her and let her lean into his shoulder. “So where were we?” he asked softly, and then they were back to work, but this time with less blushing and more uncertainty about each other.
