The rest of that week seemed to pass painlessly. I spent my class time joking around with Baekhyun, being scolded by Sehun for ignoring him, and getting the highest scores in the class continuously - much to a certain blonde's annoyance. This would be impressive, if it weren’t for the fact that every minute I wasn’t in school I was at home studying because I didn’t want to interact with anyone more than I absolutely had to.

At lunch, despite Baekhyun's, and even Sehun’s offers, I sat alone. If I were to put the situation into context; were we at my old school where I had been the ‘popular’ one and they had been the newbies there was no way they should, and would be allowed to sit with me so quickly- not unless their wealth could rival mine. It sounds awful and horrid and everything else, but that’s the way my old school was conducted. And here was no different. As the new student I had an obligation to be very near the bottom of the social rankings, and that included my dinning company. I didn’t mind; it was the natural law of high school. Although…it was a little lonely.

On the Friday of that week, Baekhyun came over to my lonely table again. "Yah! Come over, you’ve made your point now."

Of course, when I had said my reasons for not sitting with them, he looked at me like I was insane. Maybe he wasn't wrong. When I refused his offer again, he plonked himself opposite me and pulled out his lunch, eating it casually. I was going to scold him, but then the other three followed closely behind looking a little like penguins for some reason. And from then on, that became our lunch table.

When the long school days ended, Sehun would insist he lived in the same direction as I did and would walk with me to within sight of my building before I would quickly say goodbye and scurry off. The only exception to this was when I was too quick to leave the school on the Wednesday, leaving him behind. This caused intense pouting the next morning, but I didn’t care. I mean, I hardly knew the guy really!

But really, for someone I hardly knew anything about, the guy had a lot of questions. I felt like a suspect with the rate he fired them out at me. I was sure that, somewhere in a deep dark lair, he was building a full profile of me and each day he would check a chart to see what he hadn’t asked me yet.

On that same Friday, Sehun walked me almost all the way to my house. The building, I decided was enough to calm his curiosity. He made a low whistling noise when I pointed out it out. “It’s nice.”

Just as I was about to say goodbye for my weekend of peace, my phone sounded. I pulled it and smiled when I saw Baekhyun’s name pop-up. Sehun, clearly curious about what I was smiling about, peaked over my shoulder. He made a ‘Tsk’ noise when he saw Baekhyun’s name.

I pressed the button and lifted the handset to my ear. "Hello?"

"Mira?" the chirpy voice greeted me.

"Mhm," I confirmed.

"Are you at home yet?" he asked, clearly hearing some of the background noise of passing cars.

"Just about to go in..." I said as I fumbled with my keys and stuggling in my wrestle with the door. I was about to wave goodbye to Sehun but before I could he had stepped inside the lobby with me.

"Good. I’ll wait then. I have a question to ask you."

"A question?" I asked, now ignoring Sehun completely in the hopes he would get the message and leave.

"A question?" Sehun piped in, sounding a little alarmed. "What does he want?"

"Is Sehun there?" Baekhyun asked, clearly hearing Sehun mumbling in the background.

"He’s just leaving..." I informed him, shooting Sehun an assuming glance. He stared at me blankly, clearly not about to leave any time soon. I rolled my eyes. "So what was your question?"

"Well, I wouldn’t ask normally, it’s just that I couldn’t think of anyone else."

I raised an eyebrow. "Right..." I suddenly got the feeling I didn't even want to know what he was about to ask me.

"Would you come round to my house now to help me babysit?"

"Babysit?" I asked, utterly horrified. The last time I was around a baby, I was a baby.

He made an agreeing noise and then proceeded to beg, "Please, please, please! It’s only because you’re so lovely and funny and nice and-"

"Ok, ok! I get it. Where do you live?"

Sehun’s mouth dropped open when he heard me ask this.

Baekhyun gave me the instructions, thanked me profusely and hung up.

I sighed deeply. Children weren’t really my thing; I was more of a book-kind of girl. Rubbing my temple at the thought of my weekend disappearing before my very eyes, I pushed the button for the lift.

Sehun perked up when he saw me doing this. "Are you not going?"

I shook my head. "No, I am. But I’m going to change first."

Sehun then hopped into the lift with me and waited for me to push the button. I considered taking the stairs, but the thought of all that extra exercise hurt my mind. I suddenly conjured up a plan.

Perhaps it was a little mean, but I pushed the button for the floor two down from me, waited for him to get out and then went up to my level. When he saw what I was doing his face was both angry and hurt. I wasn’t going to feel guilty though; he was the one invading my privacy. When I reached the top floor I sprinted to my door and managed to get in before he could call the lift back or take the stairs.

I quickly threw my bag down, checked my main phone -  five missed calls. Three from my father’s secretary, one from my old 'boyfriend' and one from my father himself. That one made me the most uneasy. I had to admit though, I smiled when I saw the one from my old 'boyfriend', he really was very lovely. I would make sure I called him back if I survived this hellish ordeal.

Once I was changed, I headed out of my door and saw Sehun standing right there. "Why did you do that?" he asked me, face blank.

"I didn’t want you in my house whilst I was changing." I quickly caught my breath. I didn't think he would actually be here when I came out again. I quickly added, "Not because I don’t trust you, but because it’s indecent to have a boy in my house whilst I'm changing."

Something I said seemed to have caught his attention. He tilted his head to the side a little. "So you really care what people think of you?"

I nodded. With a background like mine, how could I not? "Of course, don’t you?"

He shrugged. "To an extent." Then he shot at me, "But if you care so much, why are you going round to Baekhyun’s house when his parents clearly aren’t in?"

I didn’t even falter, "Why should it matter if his parents are in or not? I'm babysitting, isn't that sort of the point?"

He raised an eyebrow at me, clearly unsure if I was joking or not. I wasn’t.

"Are you really asking me this?" he clarified, eyebrow so high it might just be able to touch his hairline.

I nodded. "Yeah, what difference would that make?" Sure I’d have to be politer, but that’s about all I could think off.

A small smile lifted the corner of his mouth. "Never mind."

This time, I raised an eyebrow as I called the elevator back. Weird blonde kid.

Sehun refused to go home, and instead came with me to Baekhyun’s house. I couldn’t see it being a problem, and maybe if Sehun

Chapter 38: Came back to this chapter after just having finished this story a few minutes ago, because the writing in this chapter is probably my favourite. I've never read a story with such delicate yet detailed kisses before and the writing just amazes me to no end.

I personally think that the delicateness of the kisses and the touches they share sort of describes them in a way. It's like they tipoe amongst each other, especially in this chapter, but are starting to realise that their footsteps needn't be calculated or uncertain, they can be more confident and understood.

I don't know if that made any sense lol so swiftly moving on. I came over here from EXO Fanfic Gems (plus other fandom pearls) and I'm so glad I did. Korekrypta mentioned when they were describing this book that you took a cliche trope and made it your own and I honestly couldn't agree more.

The descriptions you had for every scene, the realistic 1st person POV, just everything was so well written and well executed that you got me to read the whole thing, which is rare because I usually avoid stories that have more than 30 chapters unless I absolutely must know what happens.

You know, it's so easy to take a trope and come up with a story because of how many examples and references are out there but you made this story so completely your own. There was humorous banter (which is the best sort of banter, really), lovable character dynamics (I personally loved Mira's relation with her grandparents, it was so wholesome), interesting yet realistic events (never read about plate shopping before but I loved it) and best of all, one of the best romantic buildups I've read on asianfanfics.

Although I would have definitely loved seeing more of them as a couple because they didn't last very long considering how things turned out around the time of their hs graduation, this is probably the first story that has kept me so hooked even though the concrete, physical displays of love were in much lesser number in comparison to the looks and subtle touches of love.

It's rare to find someone who can do that well, so I end up reading books that have the first kind of love but yeah, I loved the way you wrote this relationship. It was so new and I admire your writing style a lot.

To wrap up my incredibly long comment, I'll answer your question from the last chapter, my favourite character is Mira, just for the amount of sheer character development she shows. She is amazing and deserves everything in the world. (Plus come on, angry little gnome sounds like just the sort of friend I would love to have in my life.)
