Question Game

I'm Sorry It Was You

Staring at me and then the pizza for a second, he smiled up at me. “Does that mean you’re going to kiss me?” he asked, teasingly leaning forwards.

I ripped at the pizza with my teeth. "Unlikely," I said around my mouthful. He leaned back instantly at the sight of the partially chewed pizza.

"So dirty..." I heard him judgingly mumble as he screwed up his face a little in digust.

"Let's play a game after this," I suggested once I had swallowed that mouthful. The small smile on his face told me he was up for it.

“Ok!” I declared after polishing off the last bite of pizza. Sehun looked a little startled by my outburst. “Three questions each, sound fair?”

He raised an eyebrow slightly as if trying to work out my motives. He never would. I wondered if he was surprised by my choice of game; he had probably been expecting Scrabble.

“Fine. What are the limits?”

“Nothing gross. Nothing erted-"

“You’ve been spending too much time with Baekhyun…” he muttered to himself.

Ignoring him, I continued, “That should be all, right?”

Again, Sehun nodded. “Fine. I’ll start. Would you ever date one of the four of us?” I knew he was referring to himself and his three friends who we spent all our school time with.

I instantly wanted to sigh and suggest a change of game, but this seemed to be the only thing I could do to get any information out of him. Taping my finger on my chin, I thought about it. In all honesty it was highly unlikely that I would ever be dating any of them since, statistically speaking, I would probably become just like everyone else at my school and end up marrying someone either by my own business arrangement, or by my family's. Dating before that seemed a little pointless, just more pain later on. “I don’t think so,” I honestly replied.

Staring at me closely for a moment, he seemed to be trying to work out what I was thinking.

“My turn?” I asked to try to break the silence. He nodded, eyes still fixed on me. “What’s your father like?”

I heard a slight groan escape his lips as he muttered, “I should have known…”

If I hadn’t been so curious, I might have smirked at this reaction but I was very intrigued by this point. After all, I had been under the impression that Sehun’s father and Sehun were very close, his father being a family-orientated man and all.

“To be honest,” he began, carrying our plates over to the sink before filling it with warm soapy water. “I haven’t gotten on well with him for as long as I can remember. There’s a lot of things he did, and still does, that I hate. So I try to avoid him as much as possible. He has a short-temper, and he’s very greedy,” he glanced over at me, “you wouldn’t like him.”

This was so different from what I had been led to believe the family’s relationship was like. Would my father’s plan even work now?

“My turn now?” Sehun interrupted my train of thought.

“Hm? Yeah, your turn.”

Pushing his lips together for a moment, he looked thoughtful; a scary thing indeed. Whenever he was thoughtful, it always led to me being placed on the spot.

“Can I ask anything?”

“Is that your question?” I teased.

“No – no it’s not.”

“Well, ask your proper question then.”

I could hear him clicking his tongue as he thought about what he should ask. Maybe, just like me, he had a lot of questions. “I didn’t want to ask you this before because it seemed a little rude, but why were you home-schooled in the first place?”

Turning my gaze to the soapy water, I knew that the question he had asked now was not the one he had thought of originally. “My parents just wanted me home-schooled, but when my father moved abroad, he didn’t want me to get lonely.”

Something that had come to my attention a lot was the fact that Sehun always asked me a lot of questions about when I was younger. Impulsively, I fired at him, “Ok, my question. Why do you always ask me about when I was young? Are you just nosy or what?”

He looked a little uncomfortable by my question; now I was really, really curious. “Well…” he began a little awkwardly. “It’s just that you remind me a lot of someone I met when I was a kid. At first, I didn’t see it, but that night I walked you home from the restaurant, I kept thinking of this person. In all honesty, the feeling sort of comes and goes. Sometimes you seem like them, sometimes you don’t.”

So there was an actual reason for his questions. “Who is that person?”

“Is that your final question?”

“No!” I huffed, annoyed that he had caught me out in my own game.

“So it’s my turn then?”

I nodded. “Last

Chapter 38: Came back to this chapter after just having finished this story a few minutes ago, because the writing in this chapter is probably my favourite. I've never read a story with such delicate yet detailed kisses before and the writing just amazes me to no end.

I personally think that the delicateness of the kisses and the touches they share sort of describes them in a way. It's like they tipoe amongst each other, especially in this chapter, but are starting to realise that their footsteps needn't be calculated or uncertain, they can be more confident and understood.

I don't know if that made any sense lol so swiftly moving on. I came over here from EXO Fanfic Gems (plus other fandom pearls) and I'm so glad I did. Korekrypta mentioned when they were describing this book that you took a cliche trope and made it your own and I honestly couldn't agree more.

The descriptions you had for every scene, the realistic 1st person POV, just everything was so well written and well executed that you got me to read the whole thing, which is rare because I usually avoid stories that have more than 30 chapters unless I absolutely must know what happens.

You know, it's so easy to take a trope and come up with a story because of how many examples and references are out there but you made this story so completely your own. There was humorous banter (which is the best sort of banter, really), lovable character dynamics (I personally loved Mira's relation with her grandparents, it was so wholesome), interesting yet realistic events (never read about plate shopping before but I loved it) and best of all, one of the best romantic buildups I've read on asianfanfics.

Although I would have definitely loved seeing more of them as a couple because they didn't last very long considering how things turned out around the time of their hs graduation, this is probably the first story that has kept me so hooked even though the concrete, physical displays of love were in much lesser number in comparison to the looks and subtle touches of love.

It's rare to find someone who can do that well, so I end up reading books that have the first kind of love but yeah, I loved the way you wrote this relationship. It was so new and I admire your writing style a lot.

To wrap up my incredibly long comment, I'll answer your question from the last chapter, my favourite character is Mira, just for the amount of sheer character development she shows. She is amazing and deserves everything in the world. (Plus come on, angry little gnome sounds like just the sort of friend I would love to have in my life.)
