I didn’t know whether I should leave the hallway or stay still and pretend I wasn’t here while they continued their conversation. Neither option seemed ideal to me.

“Sehun, we’ll discuss this another time,” the man muttered, turning once again the lift and strode down the rest of the corridor st speed.

“Stop!” Sehun called out angrily, looking to the retreating man again and dashing down the corridor past me.

The man was already in the lift and was pushing the button to close the doors with so much as a pause to hear what Sehun had to say.

As the doors closed over, Sehun sped up further to try reach them before they shut completely. Banging his fist on the metal door as it closed without him, Sehun let out an enraged cry. His breathing was still heavy. He tilted his head towards me a little. “Wait here,” he said so quietly it was barely audible.

Before I could even reply, he had taken to the stairwell, flying down it at an alarming speed. I didn’t know what I should do. Yes, he had told me to wait here, but that didn’t mean I had to do it. There was a small part of me that wanted to just retreat to my home away from Sehun when he was like this. It really was unnerving to see him like that. But there was a bigger part of me that wanted to follow him. For the entire time I had known Sehun, I had never seen him behave like this. There was obviously something really wrong with the situation for him to look that wild. I wanted to see if he was ok. Admittedly, I was worried.

I didn’t follow him in the end. But I didn’t leave either. I just stood in his corridor despite the door to his home remaining open. I’m not sure how long I waited for him there, but by the time the lift returned, I resting against the wall with my head against the cool cream paint.

The door opened and Sehun stepped out. He was looking at his feet as he exited and still looked a little ruffled but otherwise fine. His eyes flicked up to me and widened a little. I imagined that he had forgotten that he told me to wait here for him.

Leaning off the wall, I pointed up, “I can go if you want…”

Making to walk past him, I felt his fingers stretch out and catch my own in a sort of desperate and disorganised fashion. He only managed to grasps three of my own. I stopped. He was looking at the floor again, his few fingers that had managed to catch mine twitching a little.

“Can you stay for a while?” he asked me softly. All his anger from earlier seemed to have evaporated.

It was relief to see him calm again. I nodded. “If you want me to.”

Letting his head bob up and down once, he let go of my fingers and slowly made his way back to his house. I followed closely behind him. I had never seen him looking so vulnerable before.

When he reached the door to his apartment he stopped. At first I thought it was because he had realised that he left the door wide open for anyone to enter. Then I saw it. All around the apartment there was destruction and mess as pieced of ceramic lay in bits all over the wooden floor. It looked like he had been robbed.

Sehun quickly put his arms out across the doorway to block my entrance, but I had already seen it.

“You can go home if you want,” Sehun told me over his shoulder, sounding like he was trying to keep his voice even.

Ignoring him, I ducked under his arm and looking around the mess that was his apartment. I heard him sigh as I did this. I realised that the ceramics had a more definite origin. All over the place there was smashed plates and crockery, littering the floor almost as much as the hardwood was.

I looked back to Sehun imploringly. “What happened?” I could feel my eyes watering a little at the destruction that lay before me.

Sehun still stood in the doorway, chewing his lip nervously. “You can go home if you want,” he repeated, stepping to the side to allow me free passage out.

Sighing a little shakily, I couldn't imagine what had happened here. I turned back to the destroyed apartment. “Where’s your brush?”

Keeping my shoes on, I tiptoed into any space on the floor that wasn’t completely covered in broken ceramics. At some points I had to leap to make it to the next clear space. It seemed that the kitchen was mostly clear when I got there. The cupboards were flung open in every which way though and were mostly empty; their contents now lying in smithereens on the ground.

“Where’s your brush?” I asked again, glancing over at Sehun. He was still standing in the threshold to his house, staring at me. “Dude!” it was a phase I had picked up from Kai. “Brush. Where is it?”

Blinking a little dazed, Sehun cleared his throat, “Under the sink.” He then began making his own way through the mess.

Chapter 38: Came back to this chapter after just having finished this story a few minutes ago, because the writing in this chapter is probably my favourite. I've never read a story with such delicate yet detailed kisses before and the writing just amazes me to no end.

I personally think that the delicateness of the kisses and the touches they share sort of describes them in a way. It's like they tipoe amongst each other, especially in this chapter, but are starting to realise that their footsteps needn't be calculated or uncertain, they can be more confident and understood.

I don't know if that made any sense lol so swiftly moving on. I came over here from EXO Fanfic Gems (plus other fandom pearls) and I'm so glad I did. Korekrypta mentioned when they were describing this book that you took a cliche trope and made it your own and I honestly couldn't agree more.

The descriptions you had for every scene, the realistic 1st person POV, just everything was so well written and well executed that you got me to read the whole thing, which is rare because I usually avoid stories that have more than 30 chapters unless I absolutely must know what happens.

You know, it's so easy to take a trope and come up with a story because of how many examples and references are out there but you made this story so completely your own. There was humorous banter (which is the best sort of banter, really), lovable character dynamics (I personally loved Mira's relation with her grandparents, it was so wholesome), interesting yet realistic events (never read about plate shopping before but I loved it) and best of all, one of the best romantic buildups I've read on asianfanfics.

Although I would have definitely loved seeing more of them as a couple because they didn't last very long considering how things turned out around the time of their hs graduation, this is probably the first story that has kept me so hooked even though the concrete, physical displays of love were in much lesser number in comparison to the looks and subtle touches of love.

It's rare to find someone who can do that well, so I end up reading books that have the first kind of love but yeah, I loved the way you wrote this relationship. It was so new and I admire your writing style a lot.

To wrap up my incredibly long comment, I'll answer your question from the last chapter, my favourite character is Mira, just for the amount of sheer character development she shows. She is amazing and deserves everything in the world. (Plus come on, angry little gnome sounds like just the sort of friend I would love to have in my life.)
