Junghwan knew Deoksun first. Back when he was still his milk bottle and babbling gibberish, baby Deoksun wrapped her tiny fingers around his. Not that Junghwan actually remembered any of those, but she was probably smiling then.
Junghwan met Deoksun at the open field near their houses when she invited herself to join in their games. She stood tall against the boys, her chest puffed out and head held high, when she fearlessly caught the giant beetle. Junghwan wondered how a girl could be this strong, but he stared at his friend with new found admiration.
Junghwan was never good with strangers so when Taek moved into their neighbourhood, it was the nice Sunwoo, friendly Dongryong and caring Deoksun who pulled him in, not the awkward Junghwan. Taek was quiet, not the Junghwan kind of quiet, but nevertheless a good kind of quiet. Maybe he could make great friends with Taek.
Junghwan liked Deoksun. He wondered if it was even possible to like someone this much. She was loud, nosy, bossy, clumsy, stupid and extremely naïve. She wasn’t anything like everyone’s celebrity crush, Lee Miyeon, sweet and demure, but he liked her.
