Chapter 3: Not home

The Real Him

Sleeping earlier than I would originally, I was surprised no one woke me up. Usually, I would be pulled out of bed but not last night. Quickly getting out of my bed and getting ready for school, I didn’t even go to the kitchen knowing I wouldn’t want to eat.

Putting my earphones in, I walked to school not waiting for Baekhyun. Should I be ignoring him? Does he really deserve this?

I silently prayed he won’t find me walking to school and that he would just forget I even existed. I still needed some mind cleaning to do before I talked or looked at anyone.

Once I was safely at school, there was still 30 minutes until school started. Roaming around the halls, I came to a complete stop at the dance studio. Hearing music coming from inside, I looked through the window and wasn’t surprised to see the dancing king, Kai. Without even knocking I barged into the room making him jump.

Laughing I watched his expression change from fear to immediate annoyance. He had his hand over his chest, breathing heavily and shirt was covered in his own sweat. “Don’t scare me like that Byul! Gosh, literally I thought I was going to have a heart attack.” Calming down my laugher a little, I slid down against the mirror staring at him with innocent eyes.

“What are you staring at?” He said in a strong voice trying to sound tough but I knew him better than that. “Waiting for you to continue. Go ahead, I won’t judge.” Smirking in victory, I got into a comfortable position as I watched him dance. His moves were so smooth and they were right on target. His face expression was a masterpiece of it’s own and I couldn’t help but drool at the sight.

“So…how was it?” He asked grabbing his water bottle and taking a seat next to me. “That was… the best you ever did. Nice work Kim jongin, I think you’re finally better than Lay.”

“What are you talking about?! I was always better than that brat.” Laughing once again, I looked at the clock and noticed there was 20 minutes until school started. “You should go take a shower. Class starts in 20.” I said pointing to the clock on the wall.

“I’m always late to class anyways, teachers gave up on me.” He put his cold water bottle on my face making me wipe the water off my cheeks. “hahaha sorry I just- hey… why do you have a bruise on your cheek?”

I stared at him confused, but then I remembered I put makeup on my bruises that was not healed. Quickly looking at the mirror, a little bit of purple was showing. Cursing at myself in my head I bit my bottom lip as a quickly said a lie, “Bumped into the wall a few times yesterday.”

He stared at me for a while but nodded his head making me let out a sigh in relief. “Ok then… I’ll see you later at lunch with the others. Bye.” Watching him leave the room and waiting for a few minutes until I didn’t hear anything, I quickly dug through my bag and got out my makeup. “ why did he have to do that in the first place?!”

Finishing right on time, I rushed to my first period class, and wasn’t surprised to not see Kai. Ignoring Baekhyun's eyes on me, I quickly took a seat on the empty desk at the back of the room. Laying my head down, I was really tired.

Not physically but mentally. Usually my parents would wake me up but they didn’t, getting me worried that my ‘punishment’ might be 2 times worse. Baekhyun would usually call me if I wasn’t outside on time… Baekhyun… BAEKHYUN?! Is he mad at me?

Quickly forgetting my tiredness, I shoot up right away to only meet eyes with him. His frown turned into a smile and I couldn’t help but smile back. Well, glad dad doesn’t come to school with me.

Once first period ended, Sehun was waiting by my classroom door so we can head to our next class together. “Baekhyun didn’t seem so happy today… Did something happen?” I tense up at the name of Baekhyun. Rush of guilt went through my body and I couldn’t help but feel sick in the stomach. “Nothing I know of… I’ll ask him later during lunch or something.” I said trying not to sound so sick. Glad he just nodded his head; he didn’t bring up the topic of Baekhyun again.

“Everything all right? Ever since yesterday you were ignoring me. Did I do something wrong?” Not to my surprise, Baekhyun and I were walking home together again. I was glad no one was home at this time because if my dad found me with him I’ll be glad if I walk the next day.

“I-it’s nothing , I’m sorry if I’m ignoring you. Just…. Stressed out that’s all…” I said in almost a whisper but I knew he can hear me. “Well… I’m always here to listen to whatever you have to say, remember that Byul.” He said to me and I couldn’t help but light a small smile on my face.

After that, we walked the remaining blocks in silence. The closer we got home, the more nervous I was getting. Not even a block away, I could see my dad’s car in front of the garage parked. I froze in my spot, fear consuming my body. Baekhyun stopped in his spot, watching as I slightly started to shake.

“Byul, Byul. Son Byul!! Are you ok? Your so pale!" he told me grabbing my waist so I won’t fall. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. I didn’t want to even step a feet closer to home or else if someone sees me with Baekhyun I’m in big trouble. He looked at my house and realized the white car parked.

He grabbed my wrist as he walked around the block to the back side of his house. “Stay at my house for a while then if you don’t want to go home. They won’t know you’re here.” He told me while handing me a glass of water.

With shaky hands, I took the drink and finished it all in one go. It smoothed my inside a little but it didn’t stop my mind from worrying. I heard a sigh coming out of him and that’s when I finally looked up. Worry was written all over his face. A wash of guilt came upon me.

Not long after, I heard my phone go off and I tensed again when I looked at the caller.

Father.

Taking in a deep breath, I answered the phone putting my fingers over my lips showing Baekhyun not to make a sound. “Where are you?” He was drunk and there was no way I wanted to go home now.

“I-I’m at the library.” I said trying not to sound as scared as I really was. “Don’t you in lie to me… You’re at Baekhyun's aren’t you?”

I froze in my spot, not having the voice to answer him. “You worthless piece of junk… I want you home… Now."
