"Happy Birthday, my little baby girl, Cha Haneun!" 

Charcoal colored eyes blinked behind the ebony black hair. The average-height lady soon swipes her hair away, tucking them behind her ears and batting them cluelessly. Just a few feet away from her, a chocolate-headed male stood straight, smiling sweetly at her, a small cake with thirteen candles lit above it. The dimly lit atmosphere soon lit up, thanks to those little candles. 

"For me?" Haneun asks, blinking a few times as she takes a step closer towards the male.

"Of course, sweetie. I prepared this for you alone! Happy thirteenth birthday, Cha Haneun!" he giggles before grinning excitedly. "Now, make a wish and blow out the candles before the wax falls on your cake!"

"If by then, I ain't eating it." 

"Eh!? I bought it for you to eat, not waste it because of the wax over it!"

"Alright, alright. Chill." she sighed and paused before blowing the once-lit candles in one blow. "Done."

"What'd you wish for, honey?"

"... For us to have a bright future together." she softly said, earning a pat on her head and a faint "uwah" sound from the other.

"That's my baby girl." he smiles.

"I'm thirteen."

"Doesn't matter. You're still my baby girl... Forever!"

"... Oh, you've got to be kidding me..." she sighs and heads to her room. "I'll just change, alright?"

"Wait! Before that, open this first!" Hakyeon, her mother, cries out as he grabs a cutely-wrapped box with an enormous ribbon on top of it. "Here you go, happy birthday, Haneun!"

"And I thought the cake was your present for me." Haneun asks.

"Nope, this is your real present!" 

"Is it edible like the cake is?" 

"Do you want your gift or not?"

"Gimme."  she reaches out as she plops down the couch and slowly removes the wrapper and the ribbon. Excitement sparked on her eyes and Hakyeon happily watches his daughter's hands tear off the wrapper bit by bit. A frown was soon patched over her face as she saw her gift, and it was something she never really expected.

"What's this?" Haneun asks as she brings up the white mini-notebook-like object out of the box. 

"It's a diary, sweetie." Hakyeon giggles. "It's your diary, you write stuff that happens in your whole existence."

"So... it's like writing your everyday life and experiences and such?" 

"Kinda. My mom gave me one too before and I wrote lots of experiences I had! Unluckily, it ran out of paper so now, I just read them over and over again, reminiscing every moment in the past and everything, and it's really enjoying-"

"You want me to write my boring days here?" Haneun cuts off, earning a nod from her mother. "Please, mom, that's waste of time. That's why we've got memories, right?"

"B-but, memories don't last forever." Hakyeon frowns.

"So does papers and notebooks." Haneun sighs. "It's useless for me, mom. Thanks though, but I don't need it." she states as she puts the white diary on the table before standing up and grabbing her bag again. "I'll just change."

"S-sure." Hakyeon fakes a smile. "Take your time, sweetie."

Haneun then walks away from her mother, towards her room. Her emotions were locked up inside her cold heart, her expression unwaverring. "What a waste." she whispers to herself, remembering the diary she left on the center table.

Heya guys, it's me again with another story. I know, my mind is too active with ideas and with that, thanks to a friend's invitation, I decided to enter this in a writing competition. Wish me luck!
