Epilogue Turquoise
A Mermaid's Tale
Narrator’s pov:
It was just any other day in the year.
Nothing special.
Except maybe the heavy rain that was pouring down from the dark sky.
The waves of the sea were bigger and stronger.
But under those waves was someone swimming.
It was dark because of the rain and you could hardly see anything under those dark blue waves.
But that didn’t meant that there was nothing under it.
A big turquoise colored tail was moving.
Long slender arms and wavy hair moved with the big fish like tail.
Her eyes darted here and there and she looked up, waiting for the rain to stop.
“Neela.”
The said person turned around, her turquoise colored tail moving together with her.
“Marina.” Neela smiled softly as her best friend swam to her.
“You’re going to the surface again?” Marina asked, careful with her words, afraid that she might hurt her friend’s feelings.
Neela smiled again and nodded her head, humming softly.
“Yes…” she whispered and her fingers automatically went to the necklace hanging around her neck, playing with those mini pearls that formed a sol key.
“Neela…” Marina said, her expression sad. “It’s been years already.” Marina whispered.
Neela nodded, her lips still curled up in that soft smile of hers.
“Do you know why that mermaid disappeared?” Neela asked, referring to the one of the old story she heard years ago and the very same mermaid she met again as the Storyteller.
Marina shook her head.
“Because she fell in love. She discovered that she had feelings for a human. She disappeared because she was lonely, because she couldn't meet the one she loved.” Neela answered the question, almost muttering it.
Marina’s face fell because she knew that her best friend had feelings for a human male.
“I see…” said Marina, who swam closer to Neela.
“Don’t come back too late.” She added and glanced at Neela for a last time behind that stone and swam away.
Neela smiled brightly as the sun shined again and the rain stopped, the waves became calmer and birds could be heard in the sky.
“It stopped raining.” she whispered and swam to the surface, enjoying the moment to be on ground again.
Her tail was moving slowly under the water and she was humming a song she always sang before.
Years have passed again since she became human for a second time. After it, she decided to visit the surface again whenever people would still be sleeping.
She wandered the land for one last day and she took everything in, how it looked like, how people acted and what they ate. She tried to store them in her memory as much as possible.
Jonghyun walked by the sea, happy that the sun was coming from behind the clouds.
It was an usual day and he always took a walk by the beach, for years and years already after he moved back to the sea side after his wife passed away. He sold his house and moved back to where he grew up, knowing that his children and their children could take care of their own.
Jonghyun met up with Key a
