Question #5
K-Pop Audition/Trainee QuestionsToday's Question is "May I ask.. I am tanned skinned. But when you put foundation and make me whiter. I actually look like a Chinese. I have tried it. Does that count.?"
Though paleness and white-skinned matters a lot in the Korean Industry, it still doesn't trump the fact of the ethnicity issue. Unless the company that you are specifically auditioning for wants to target the Filipino or South Eastern countries, most likely "looking Chinese" won't give you that much of an advantage nor will it put you on the same playing ground as other Chinese/Korean/Japanese potentials.
But I would say that it does indeed give you an advantage over others who are of the same ethincity if you can look more Eastern Asian. It really "doesn't count" for anything as ethnicity is still the most important (as if you are a Filipino promoting in Korea, China, or Japan, you will most likely get looked down upon and your popularity wouldn't be as high. Its not much of the skin color -- that can easily be fixed with surgerical procedures or just better skin care -- but rather you're true ethnicity.)
Of course, there are exceptions to the rule but I would say that you should try out for a company thats planning on promoting in South Eastern countries.
Hope this helped! Also, people have been sending me their videos/selcas/photos of them for me to chance them, so you guys are free to do the same!
