Education
K-Pop Audition/Trainee QuestionsEducation is rather important in K-pop. Knetizens care a lot about which college or high school you went to and the ranking. If you are an idol, going to/graduating from a top 10 university (either in Korea or in the United States) might even skyrocket you to the status of a common household name.
Why?
Quite simply, it has to do with Korea's obessession with status and name-brand schools. Take Kim Tae Hee for example, she's one of the most popular actresses in South Korea and the reason being so (aside from her beauty) is the fact that she's a Seoul University graduate. Even Seungyeon from KARA is being noticied for going to a name-brand high school and praised for going to Kyunghee University (one of the top ones in Korea). Education is important in Korea and it completes the "perfect idol image" that Kneitzens expect of idols.
This is just a theory but I suspect that's why some companies (like SM) ask about what school you attend -- the better the school the more popularity you will have when you debut.
That's why its extremely important to not disregard your studies. If you go to a top university, it might even be an advantage for you in auditions/debuting.
