Foreword
______ JIA'S POINT-OF-VIEW _______
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the red and blue flashing lights. I could hear the annoying wail of the siren that I had never grown used to, despite the tons of times I had heard it right behind me. I had to stop running, I can't run forever. I'd die from fatigue and where was I going anyways?
"MENG JIA, STOP RIGHT THERE OR YOU'RE GOING TO BE IN BIGGER TROUBLE THAN YOU COULD'VE BEEN." One of the city's police men shouted out at me from the passenger seat of the car. Tsk, like I could ever let them lay a finger on me. I ran faster than I ever had, turning corners to try to shake them off of me.
There, right ahead, I saw my escape route.
A run down neighborhood, most of the houses average-sized with their lights shining out of the windows. "OPEN YOUR DOORS! HELP! IT'S AN EMERGENCY!!" I shouted from the top of my lungs, my voice bouncing back at me through the echo of the dark night as I began pacing the neighborhood trying to get a responce.
For a moment, there was silence. I was tired, sweat trickling down my forehead, threatening to run down my moonlit face. Then I heard a creak. Those door opening creaks, inviting me in. "HERE! GET IN HERE!" I heard someone command, barking at me from the porch of their house. I paced towards the door, checking behind me to see if the cops were still cruising around in their pathetic clown cars. No sign of them anywhere. I held my breath and ran into the yellow light of the small house.
