The Return [The Fallen II] (Permanent Hiatus)

You wrapped your arms around your folded legs and drew them to your chest, resting your chin on your knees with a sigh.

"Bored?" Hyukjin smirked from his spot next to you.

You glanced to your side and watched him throw a small, rubber ball against the wall in front of the two of you. The ball bounced against the concrete and he caught it with ease when it came hurtling back towards him before throwing it again.

"A little," you admitted, "I don't know what's taking them so long."

"You just got off the phone with him a few minutes ago," he pointed out, "They still need time to actually drive here."

"That's true," you mumbled and looked down at the dusty floor.

Only the rhythmic sound of Hyukjin's ball slamming against the wall, bouncing off the floor, and impacting broke the eerie silence in the air.

"Can I ask you something?" you whispered after a few moments.

Hyukjin caught the ball and held onto it as he turned his head towards you, "Sure."

"Why do all the Demons look so different now?" you asked.

Hyukjin's eyebrows furrowed at your question, "What do you mean?"

"The last time I saw Demons, you know, when I was captured, they all looked … scary, inhuman really. Even their voices were horrible," you shuddered at the memories, "But now, they all seem to look normal. I could walk pass one on the street and not even know it was a Demon."

"Okay, I get what you mean now," he nodded, "It's because we all have Angel's blood in our systems, it makes us look like Humans or Guardians. The only thing that it doesn't change about our appearance is our eyes."

Even though you knew he wouldn't hurt you, you still cringed a little when you eyes met his blood red ones.

"Was the blood that they gave you my blood?" you bit down on the inside of your cheek.

You could vividly recall being tied down to that wooden chair in the office as a Demon drew vials and vials of blood from your arm.

"I really have no idea," he sighed and leaned his head back against the wall, "Angel's blood is all the same to them. To us," he added bitterly.

"Why do say that like that? 'To us'?" you imitated his tone of distaste.

"Because I hate what I am," he grip tightened on the ball in his hand, "I hate myself for all the mistakes that I've made in my former life that ended me up here, with them."

Hyukjin sent a deadly glare up at the ceiling. You didn't even need to ask who that glare was intended for.  You stared at Hyukjin with a hint of fear in your eyes as you watched him take deep breaths to calm himself down.

"Did you know that they forced me to take the Angel's blood?" he asked you when his anger subsided.

"Really?" you were shocked to say the least, "Why? I would have thought they would want more for themselves."

"It's punishment," he muttered, "I tried to kill myself, I'd rather be dead than alive as a Demon."

Your eyes widened at his statement. You never would have thought a Demon would think this way. There was no way that Hyukjin was really a Demon, there couldn't be. His thinking and morals were too good for one. A real Demon would have tried to kill you for your blood by now, but Hyukjin just sat next to you, helped you, talked to you.

"But they wouldn't let me," he continued, "They wanted me to stay alive and suffer forever. So they forced the blood into my system and locked me down here so I couldn't kill myself or kill any of them."

"That's horrible," you whispered.

"They're just that evil," he rolled the ball across the floor and the two of you watched it come to a stop in the corner of the prison cell.

"So that's why you're helping me?" your voice was barely above a whisper.

"And I'll help the Guardians too if they want," he smirked with a single nod, "I think of it as the ultimate payback."

You couldn't hold back your smile when Hyukjin let out a carefree laugh.

"You're different," you said softly causing him to raise his eyebrows at you, "I can't believe that you're a Demon. You really don't seem like one."

"Really?"

You nodded.

"That is seriously the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me," he looked over at you with soft eyes, "Thank you."

You felt yourself blush under his gaze. You quickly dropped your eyes from his and drew your knees up to your chest again, staring intently at the wall in front of you as you tried to rid the color from your cheeks.

"So why do you think they kidnapped me?" you asked, clearing your throat, "What does Kang want from me now?"

"He probably took you just to tick off your water Guardian boyfriend," he chuckled, "By the sound of his voice over the phone, I'm he's freaking out right now."

"Suho always freaks out over everything," you rolled your eyes and shook your head, "He always worries about me."

"He must really care about you then," Hyukjin mumbled, his eyes resting on the floor.

"He does, but that's beside the point. I thought the Demons would want me for my blood," you tilted your head to the side with a troubled look on your face as you brought the conversation back on course, "That's why they kidnapped me the last time."

You heard alarms go off inside of your head when you saw Hyukjin stiffen out of the corner of your eye.

You unfolded your legs and turned to face him, "What's wrong?"

He stayed quiet, only biting his lip and taking nervous glances around the dim cement room.

You crawled over and kneeled in front of him, "Hyukjin, what's wrong?" you repeated, an uncomfortable feeling starting to settle in the pit of your stomach.

"They don't want you for your blood, Miyoung," he breathed.

"Why not?" you spoke slowly, scared of what his answer was going to be.

"Because," he looked up at you, "They already have another Angel upstairs for that."

I love reading all of your comments about how you all don't trust Hyukjin or hope that he's not another Kang. You guys are all just so cute that I can't help but giggle a little to myself. But, that's good that you guys are thinking about what's going to happen next in the story! I won't reveal anything more about Hyukjin's character so you guys just have to stay tuned for that! Hope you all enjoyed the chapter!
