Whoa!
Oh, Brother!“Miso-yah, did you tell her about our plan?” her boyfriend asked in the middle of our breakfast. Yejin looked at both of them with questioning eyes. “What plan?” she asked. Her mother cleared before she announced, “We’re getting married.”
Yejin dropped her chin and the noodle that were half-way up to . The noodle fell back down to the soup, with her chopsticks still in the air. She winced as she felt the hot soup splattered on her chin. She looked at her mom with furrowed eyebrows which she then straightened it minutes later. She remembered that she also had something to tell her mom; her plan on going back to the states. “Oh, okay. I’m happy for you if you two are working out,” she said as she gently tapped her chin with napkin, tried to nonchalant.
“Really?” her mom widened her eyes, surprised that her daughter would be on board so easily. Yejin just nodded and gave a bitter smile. Her mom hugged her tightly out of happiness. “Ouch! Mom! Stop,” she yelled as she pushed her mom away. She looked at her mom’s face, the face expression that she hadn’t seen since her dad left. She knew then, her mom had finally found her happiness.
She pulled her mom for another hug, then she whispered, “Is that why you moved in with your boyfriend?” Her mom broke the hug and happily nodded as she smiled. Her mom’s boyfriend was very pleased at these two girls. As the two women continue chatting, he went to pay the bill.
When they got to their home, she was shooketh. In front of her was a grey-ish/off-white, 3 story house with a garden that has a fish pond and a water fountain, not to mention a Roll Royce was parked in the garage. It was not a home, it was a freaking mansion. It was not way too big but just enough to call it a mansion since they used to live in an apartment. She scanned the outer of the house as they took the luggage out of the car, “Whoa, mom. You picked out a very nice one, huh, just saying.” she joked in English in case her mom’s boyfriend could hear them. Her mom only giggled, “He’s also a very nice and gentle man.”
As soon as they got into the house, she could not believe her own eyes. Everything was designed very modern. It was like a dream house that she’d always wanted. Suddenly, two ladies appeared from God knows where, bowing to them. “Please show her where her room is,” said her mom’s boyfriend. One of the lady bowed as she signaled Yejin to follow her.
She looked at her mom, confused. Her mom just lightly pushed her to follow the lady. So she did. She follow the lady up to the second floor, turn right to a(nother) living room, then turn left to a hallway with two doors on both sides of the wall. The lady opened the door to her right, her left hand stayed on the door know as she laid her right hand, palm facing to the ceiling, pointing towards the room inside.
She stepped in slowly as she scanned the room. There was a queen-sized bed in the middle of the room, with a small chandelier above it. On the left was a big window, facing the back of the house, which was probably part of their property. She walked in further inside, still looking around. She turned her body and found a big screen TV in front of her bed with a cozy sofa in front of it.
She then walked to the left side of the room, there was a door. She thought it was just a bathroom. To her surprise, it was a walking closet, which was already filled with some of her clothes and some that she did now know belonged to whom. There was another door which connected to the bathroom with a shower cornered with glass and a grey bathtub below the big tinted window, a toilet beside the bathtub, and fancy sink with a full mirror from end to end.
Never once her lips found its way together as she looked around ‘her room’. When she’s done checking out the bathroom/closet, she went back to the room and checked out the space behind the bed which was separated by a fancy wall. Behind the bed was a working space with a wide table and a fancy chair, behind it was a bookshelf.
She smiled as she saw her books set up nicely on the shelf. There was some empty space that she could add more books. At that very moment, the thought of her going back to the states had fly
