Chaeyoung stepped into Mina’s office only to find her friend still in her pajamas.

“You know it’s a professional office, right?” Chaeyoung said as she walked in breakfast in hand.

Mina looked up to see her closest friend standing in the doorway, coffees in one hand and McDonalds in the other. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight, Chaeyoung was always so warm to her.

“Yes, but I own the company, and the building as a matter of fact.” She teased back

“So, tell me, why do you think your lovely wife is trying to murder you.” Stuffing a fry into .

“Well first let me have some food, I’m starving.” Mina whined, reaching out both her hands looking like a child wanting to be picked up.

Chaeyoung couldn’t help but feel enticed to give her a hug rather than the food, so that’s exactly what she did instead, putting the food down on the coffee table Chaeyoung jumped into Mina’s arms much to the surprise of the older.

Having her lifelong friend there in her arms was comforting, and it was exactly what she needed right now. Mina couldn’t help but bury her face deeper into the nook of her neck and inhale the familiar scent of her friend. She smelled like a mix of burnt parchment and french toast, it was oddly refreshing and slightly endearing.

“You smell nice…” Mina trailed off, getting lost in the smells.

Chaeyoung only stood there, comforting her friend that was dealing with something obviously bigger than she like to show, but that was just how Mina was. Never cruel never cowardly, always showing all the kindness she had, and it was time Chaeyoung showed her some of it.

“Why don’t we eat first, and then you can tell me everything?” Chaeyoung said in a soothing voice, to which Mina could only nod.

And that’s exactly what they did, the pair sat down and had breakfast, each of them silently enjoying their food and the other’s company. Mina only focused on the food while Chaeyoung only focused on Mina, although they were comfortable with the silence the air still felt heavy, knowing what they had to talk about eventually.

“So, I’ve had Tzuyu clear up our schedules today so we can spend as much time as you’d like” Chaeyoung finally broke the silence.

“Thank you, remind me to give a raise” Mina joked, still looking down at her food.

“She’ll never take that, I’ve already tired” Chaeyoung couldn’t help but breathe out a laugh, Tzuyu was always so stubborn when it came to things like this, she would never take things she didn’t think she deserved.

The room erupted into laughter, having the two friends continue to enjoy each other’s company, the heavy feeling hadn’t left but the mood was lifted with the laughter. But as the laughter settled it was time to get to the conversation.

“I guess I should start at the beginning huh?” Mina reluctantly said, she didn’t to burden Chaeyoung but who else would she go to.

When Chaeyoung didn’t respond Mina took it as an indication to continue, that’s when she started, from the beginning of the letters. It started off being a way Nayeon tried to be romantic towards Mina, which she did think it was cute but being who she was, letters weren’t anything special rather they were a blast from the past.

What went from a daily form of flirting turned into an occasional gift for birthdays, holidays and special events sometimes. It was always nice waking up to find a small envelope sometimes tied together with a red ribbon, other times it would be with a wax seal.

That feeling of waking up to find a gift from someone was warm, a feeling that she couldn’t shake off no matter how many times it happened. But then all of that changed when she woke up this morning.

“Wait, so Nayeon thought that it was cute that she wrote you letter?” Chaeyoung tried to muffle a laugh.

“Oh hush, if Tzuyu did this to you you’d be bent over backwards for her” Mina smacked her on the arm. “Can I continue?”

When Chaeyoung gave a nod she continued, she said how this morning she woke up to the exact same situation. The envelope, the side of the bed everything was lining up to seem perfectly normal. Given the events that transpired this past weekend it wasn’t out of line for her to write this.

Mina went on to explain the powder, the coughing, the blood, the dizziness, and all the other effects that it had. This was all kind of traumatic for Mina as her voice started to faulter and her hands started to shake. She didn’t know if the was her emotions taking over or the effect of whatever happened this morning, but she tried to reach out for some water only to stumble and fall forward.

It was a good thing Chaeyoung was there to catch her, and in surprise to both of them she actually did catch the falling girl, who was now coughing up a storm. Helping her back to her feet Chaeyoung handed Mina a glass of water to help quell the coughing.
