C.10.
Reparo"What are you doing?" Soomin jumps, almost tipping the pot over had it not been for Yixing's quick reflexes and him righting the pot on the burner.
"I'm sorry." Yixing is quick to apologize.
"It's fine. I was just surprised. What are you doing here?" Soomin asks, turning back to the sauce.
"I wanted some water." He tells her, walking towards the cabinets to get himself a glass, while Soomin gets the jug of water.
"Is that Toffee Pudding?" Yixing beams as if he's discovered the cure for Dragon pox.
Soomin chuckles, nodding to confirm his assumption. She takes out three layers of the cake, pre-sliced to prepare for the final product.
"Why aren't you putting any on the top?" Yixing asks, as Soomin sets the three layered cake on the wire rack.
"We don't want the cake to get too soggy." She says, setting the stove on low and leading him to the dining room.
As soon as she's done with dinner, Soomin excuses herself to the kitchen, Yixing following after her. Yixing watches with awe as Soomin adds creative touches to the each of the slices, she adds more ice cream on Hera's slice, while his mother's is just right.
"Would you like to do the honors?" She holds out the whip cream with a raised eyebrow and he happily accepts, layering each slice with a healthy layer, which Soomin finishes with a drizzle of more toffee sauce.
Hera is extremely touched knowing her friend put in all this effort to cheer her up with her favorite dessert. She can't stop the tears, which leads to the parents being informed of the train incident.
Let's just say the headmistress isn't going to be happy and neither will the Ravenclaws.
"He didn't show up. What an arse!" Hera yells. Soomin cried about Jongin not showing up for the brunch, and neither was he responding to her letters or the floo calls. Not wanting to breakdown in front of her parents, Soomin starts the stay at the Zhang's two days early.
"Jongin was supposed to meet up with Soomin and her father for brunch, but he didn't show up." Hera sighs, as does the face in the fireplace.
"I'll have a talk with him. So, How are you?"
"I'm fine. But I've ignored Jongin's rudeness and prejudice towards my house, but I will not tolerate him hurting my best friend." Hera fumes, while the face in the floo can only nod along.
"I know. No matter how much I try to apologize for him, I know it won't help. Let's try to have them meet up soon, to clarify the situation. Okay?" Hera nods, about to suggest something, when she hears footsteps. She quickly bids bye and runs out of the room.
"Why do I have to tag along?" Jiha rolls her eyes watching her oldest brother whine about having to drop them off the Zhang's, even though she knows he's excited to see his girlfriend.
As she's about to grab the floo powder and follow after him, someone pulls her back.
"Don't lose your temper." Jongdae warns, before pushing her towards the fireplace.
She doesn't understand her twin's words until dinner. She's too occupied with other things to notice how stiff Soomin acts around Jongin or the fact she tends to leave the room if Jongin pops in. It's during dinner she realizes something's going on. She's trying to admire her crush from where he's seated across the table between his sister and best friend, when Audrey nudges her.
"What?" Her tone's harsh then she intends for it to be, but Audrey ignores it.
"I think Jongin and Soomin fought." Audrey states and finally Jiha looks between her best friend and brother. Whenever someone tries to talk to Soomin, the girl makes it a point to only focus on them and after that she's quick to look down at her plate, while her brother is blatantly staring at her, not even caring about the fact their parents are giving him curious glances
"I think so too. I wonder what that idiot did now." Jiha mumbles turning to ask her twin and he's giving her the same look he gave her that morning reminding her to control her temper.
"Oh he definitely fu*ked up big time." Audrey mumbles, watching Soomin quickly leave the table and Jongin right behind her. Jongdae hurries behind them along with Hera. Not wanting to be left out, Jiha follows after and with the footsteps she hears, she knows the rest of her friends are right behind her.
"Why have you been avoiding me?" Jongin yells, grabbing her arm to stop her from stomping off. Somehow in her anger daze, Soomin manages to stomp out to the Zhang's backyard.
Soomin scoffs, finding the ground much more interesting than him.
"Soomin." Jongin softly whispers, taking one of her hands into his. "Baby, I can't read minds, you have to tell me what's wrong?"
"You're unbelievable." She yanks her hand out of his. "Soomin." He tries again.
"Brunch." The one word causes Jongin to visibly flinch as Soomin finally looks at him, her eyes are glassy and before she can start crying her pulls her for a hug.
"I'm so sorry. I completely forgot. My grandparents dropped by for a surprise visit and it slipped my mind. I'm so sorry." He apologizes, trying to hold her close but the Hufflepuff is putting up a fight.
"You're accusing me of avoiding you, but what about my letters and the floo calls?" She cries into his chest. All the teens are gathered by the entrace and watching the scene unfold.
"Grandma was insistent on all cousins spending the rest of the week at Junmyeon's place." Jongin explains.
"That's a stupid excuse." Jiha interrupts, but Hera and Jongdae manage to shut her up.
"I know it sounds stupid. But that's how it is. I really am sorry. Please, forgive me." Jongin pleads and the girl pulls away from him to wipe her tears.
"Fine. You're forgiven." Jongin cheers and leans to peck her, but she pulls back. "It's going to take some time for me to forget it, though." She gives him a quick hug before turning away.
"Bab- Mom." Jongin and Soomin halt noticing the lady watching them, from behind the group of teenagers while the others turn around to see Mrs. Kim watching them.
Mrs.Kim shakes her head at Jongin, making her way to them.
"No wonder you seemed upset. I'll have to apologize for my son, he can be quite ignorant." Mrs. Kim smiles, Soomin only stares at her.
"I'll like to get to know my son's girlfriend more, if it's no problem do you think you can spare some time for breakfast tomorrow?"Mrs.Kim asks her.
"Of course. She'll be there." Jiha agrees for her, bouncing over to the trio.
"Great. I expect Jongdae and you there as well. 8am. See you tomorrow." She leaves, not even hearing her youngest whine about having to waking up early.
"This is all your fault." Jiha turns to her brother, as soon as their mother is out of sight.
"What do you mean my fault?" Jongin asks.
"If only you weren't stupid." She stomps her feet, before dragging Soomin and Hera back to the mansion.
"What did I do?" Jongin asks, but no one answers, choosing to quickly run back inside.
"Good morning." Jongin smiles, holding his hand for his girlfriend to take, but Jiha slaps it away and drags Soomin inside, though she does manage to give him a flying kiss.
"You messed up big time brother." Jongdae teases, throwing an arm around Jongin's and pulling him inside.
"Mom. Dad. What are you doing here?" Soomin's voice is heard through the open door and Jongin freezes at the realization. And had it not been for Jongdae pulling him through the door, he doubts he would have walked in himself.
"I got a letter from Jiyeon asking to meet for breakfast, last night. What are you doing here?" Mrs.Nam looks at the former, still confused about the meeting and more questions form with the arrival of their children.
"Let's order first." Mr.Kim suggests and after the orders have been placed, Mrs.Kim clears .
She starts. "It seems as if our son and your daughter are fond of each other."
Soomin's parents snap their heads at her and she can't stop herself from squirming in her seat.
"What does that mean?" Soomin's surprised at her dad's calm tone, but she knows it's not going to last for long.
"They're dating." Mr.Kim answers.
"Jongdae?"
"We've been dating since around May. So around 8 months. Sir." Jongin decides to use someone of his sister's Gryffindor courage.
"You're dating him." Mr.Nam asks. Soomin slowly nods her head, avoiding looking at her father.
"Why did you wait so long to tell us and why do his parents know before us?" Mr.Nam asks, though the last bit is asked with a small pout.
"Well. Remember our last brunch, I was planning on introducing Jongin to you, but due to unforeseen circumstances he had to cancel and Mr and Mrs. Kim found out just yesterday." Soomin tells her father, skillfully avoiding the first question.
The arrival of the food, has everyone forget about the first question as well.
"When would the two of you consider getting married?" Jiyeon's questions seems to shock everyone, but her husband. A few people choke on air while some others choke on their drinks, Jiha isn't going to let Jongin live this down.
"M-m-marriage." Weston chokes out, his wife rubbing circles on his back to calm him down.
"Isn't that a little too early to be talking about?" Soomin nervously chuckles, helping calm her dad out while noting Jongin's pale complexion.
"I understand, but if you're in a relationship. It's natural to be thinking in long term." Mrs. Kim states.
"Honestly, Ma'am. I haven't really given that a thought. Marriage is something I know is in the future, but over a decade in the future. We still have to finish school. My dream is to become a healer and that's my primary focus right now. I'm not trying to neglect our relationship, but I know Jongin feels the same. His goal is to become an auror and he's quite focused on it as well." Soomin explains, Jongin is quite relived at her answer and eagerly nods his head when his parents turn to him.
"Mom we're just getting to know each other. We like each other, but we're both ambitious regarding our careers. And they're what hold priority" Jongin adds.
"Good. That's great. The kids are right. They have a long time ahead before we even need to be discussing marriage." Mr.Nam agrees.
"I understand and we're not asking them to get married now, but we want to know if marriage is a long term goal of their relationship." Mrs.Kim says.
"I don't know mom. We're still young, but I know I love Soomin but we're still young and we're just trying to enjoy what we have now." Jongin tells his mother. The parents look quite shocked at Jongin opening declaring his love for Soomin, but their siblings also look just as surprised.
"Mr.Nam -"Weston" Weston. We're a pureblood family. We have traditions, we're bound to. The day I turned 15, my parents had already pre-selected other pureblood families they would consider allowing for an alliance and with Jongin's 15th birthday coming up soon, my parents expect the same from me as well. This has been the way our family has worked for the past generations. If Jongin and Soomin are sure about their relationship, we don't have to worry about it, but if it's not serious, please save yourself from the effort and time and let us know now." Mr.Kim's words seem harsh but it does get everyone thinking.
"Mr.Kim. I love Jongin, but I'm not sure about our future. The future is quite unpredictable and we don't know what will happen." Soomin tells the man.
"I love Soomin. For me, it's always going to be her. No one but her."
