Chapter 017

Start of Something New

"What are you doing-"

"Chaewon!" Hitomi yelled. "I have a weak heart, don't surprise me like that!"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to shock you." Chaewon apologized. "So back to the topic, what are those for?"

They are standing in front of the Admin's office. Hitomi looked at her hand and realizes that she's holding her requirement for transferring.

"N-Nothing, just files... for the club," Hitomi lied, hiding the papers behind her back in the process.

Chaewon nodded as a reply.

"Is there anything you need to ask?" Hitomi questioned.

"Actually, there is," Chaewon said before taking a deep breath. "The real reason why I tried to find you is that I... bought tickets for Eyes on Me."

"Eyes on me?!" Hitomi beamed. "As in the movie adaptation?"

"Yes, yes," Chaewon replied. "I'm glad you love the movie... So as I was saying, I'm here to ask you out- I mean to ask you if you want to watch with me tonight."

"I would love-" Hitomi stopped when she remembered she has to pack her clothes. "-to join but I can't. Sorry, Chaewon but I already have scheduled for tonight. Next time, maybe?"

"Sure, I... I understand," Chaewon uttered, slightly disappointed.

"I need to go now, Ms. Musician. See you later," Hitomi waved and ran without letting Chaewon reply.

To tell the truth, the cheerleader really has nowhere to go. She just bid goodbye to the other girl to avoid questions and to prevent herself from creating more lies. She kept looking back to see if Chaewon is following her until she bumped with someone.

"H-Hey, Chae..."

.

.

.

"I'm looking for you everywhere. We need to talk."

************

"Since when did you knew?"

"Last week, back when we're on the milk tea shop. Your phone rang when you left to order a cream bread. I decided to answer it to tell your mother to just call you later. But when I pick it up, your sister started talking before I even got to say something."

"She kept on advising me, saying that it'll be easier for you if you pack your things days before your flight. She also reminded me to make the admin and registrar sign your transfer forms. She realized that I'm not answering her, that's when she asked me if I was you. Your sister tried to turn back everything she has said... but it's too late. I already analyzed her statements."

The two remained silent for a moment, only the sound of students chatting outside are heard.

"Are you mad?" Hitomi asked, not being able to look into the other girl's eyes.

"About you leaving? Of course not. But about you hiding it? Definitely." Chaeyeon said with conviction. "I get that you're still not ready to say it that time... That's why I didn't say a word. I tried so hard to keep my mouth shut because I want you to tell them directly-"

"I'm about to-"

"But Hitomi it has been a week! When will you even tell them? The day before your flight back to Japan?" Chae upbraided, her loud voice echoing inside the gymnasium they are in.

"Let me explain first!"

The youtuber crossed her arms, waiting for Hitomi's explanation.

"I was about to tell you ever since the day we came back, I swear. I planned to announce before we part ways but..."

The cheerleader balled her fist to stop herself from tearing up.

"But I saw how happy you all are. Jumping in joy, teasing each other, everything is just... happy. And I don't want to ruin it all."

"If you wanted to tell us then why didn't you-"

"Say it the days onwards? All of you are frustrated about the exams that time, and I am, too. I don't want to add up to the trouble."

Chaeyeon saw how the lass gently wiped the tears forming in her face. Knowing her ever since the first year, Hitomi isn't the kind of person to cry over small things. Chae can see how stressed she is for the past days and the girl started to soften a bit.

She walked over to the girl's place and gave her an apologizing hug.

"S-Sorry, Hii. I'm... I'm wrong. I didn't even think about how hard it must be for you. sorry for being insensitive..."

The girl accepted her apology by means of hugging her back.

Silence took over the place for a good minute.

"I still have five days here, Chae. I'll tell them soon, I promise. But not today... I ain't ready yet." Hitomi pleaded. "It's hard for me to say goodbye, especially to Chaewon."

Chaeyeon patted the cheerleader's back to ease her breathing.

"But no matter how difficult it is, you should probably tell her immediately, Hiichan... Before she discovers it from other people, just like what happened to me. She's your best friend. If she wouldn't hear it directly from you, that'll just hurt her more-"

"I know, I know. But... I just can't," Hitomi whispered. "Chaewon is such an innocent and kind person. I can't just go to her and say 'You know what, I'm leaving. Bye.' I won't tell her the truth and not care about what she'll feel..."

.

.

"I love her too much to do that."

Finally, after months and months of in-denial, Hitomi has finally admitted it to herself.

"I don't know how it started. At first, I thought that it's just infatuation. I had a crush on her because she complimented and supported me, that's it. I kept on reminding myself that it won't last long."

"And then we got to work together during the concert. We also became a part of the squad. I don't know if it's time, her actions or the events that occurred, but somehow, that feeling began to grow. And now, I don't even know what to do, Chae... I'm so confused and stressed. Why am I this dumb-"

"No, you aren't... Don't just blame yourself. You wouldn't even think that this time will come." Chae consoled. "About earlier, I'm not saying you should bluntly inform her, I'm just reminding you that she deserves to know straight from you."

"Listen, I'll help you tell them after the results announcement if that is the only thing I can do. I understand where you're coming from and I want to tell you that I'm here in case you need someone to talk to."

Hitomi gave her a faint smile and held the other girl's hand.

"I'll miss this..."

.

.

"I'll miss you."

After talking about some details for her flight, the two decided to go back to their class. They missed one subject or two but it's fine since the finals are over.

"Hitomi!" Chaewon yelled across the corregidor when she saw the cheerleader. "Oh, hey another Chae."

"I still need to go to Room 2-1. See you later, guys."

"Hi, Chaewon. Umm, what do you need?"

"More of, 'what do you need?'" The girl replied. "Here's the enrollment form for next year. Sakura gave me this since she told me you didn't attend your History Class. Where did you go?"

"Me? Oh, I'm... just chilling out with Chaeyeon."

"Really? Why are your eyes swollen then?"

"What? M-Maybe it's from... laughing so much! I laughed at Chae antics that I literally cried. Never knew she's that funny." Hitomi lied, letting out a burst of nervous laughter.

"Are you sure you're okay? Is there... something you want to tell me?"

If Hitomi's drinking right now, she would probably choke.

"W-What is that question even?!?" Hitomi said, not even having the courage to make eye contact. "W-Where does that c-came from?"

"Just curious. But am I correct? Is there something you're hiding?"

"Of course not!" Hiichan said in a little panicky voice. She tried to calm herself by taking a deep breath. "I'm not hiding anything, Chaewon. I'm just really tired after the exams."

"Are you really sure?"

"Yes, I am. Sorry but... I need to go to class." Hitomi said, pointing the room beside them. "I still need to catch up to the news and stuff. See you later!"

And she immediately entered the room.

.

.

.

"You're such a bad liar, Ms. cheerleader."

2 Days after: Results Announcement

"Where the heck did you go? Why are you so damn late?" Hyewon ticked off as she pulled Minju to the back of the cafeteria.

"Can you chill for a sec?" Minju replied. "I still need to go home. I can't bring a giant teddy bear her in school!"

Hyewon's grumpy face turned into a smirking one.

"Giant teddy bear, huh? Did you enjoyed your date, Minju?"

Yujin has able to conquer her fear of the finals, surprising everyone. And just like what she promised, Minju is forced to go out with the tall girl.

"Stop teasing me, Hye!" Minju demanded. "I didn't know that she can actually ace the tests."

"Why would you doubt Yujin's power?" Hyewon asked, leaning on the wall of the canteen. "If a date with Kim Minju is the prize, you can even push her to pass her Math exams."

"So, as I was asking, how is it?"

"It's... fine." Minju simply answered.

"C' mon! Knowing Yujin, she wouldn't waste her chance for her date to be just fine. Tell me... Aside from the stuffed toy, are there flowers? Chocolates, maybe? Did she made you forget the past-"

"That's the thing! She made me remember the past!" Minju replied in frustration. "I tried to forget everything, from the moment I met her to the day she hurt me. I ignored her. I tried to scare her away... But she didn't give up, and now she's messing with my mind."

"What do you mean?" The atmosphere suddenly turned serious.

"The... The date that happened earlier, it took me back to those times. But for some reason, it's not like we're recalling anything; It's more of continuing everything. I don't even know... I'm actually scared, Hyewon."

"Wait... Are you scared that you fell for her again?"

"No, I'm scared that..."

.

.

.

.

.

"That I didn't stop loving her."

Chapter 27: A chaekura and a kangbi would have made this perfect. But otherwise this is still a masterpiece. Good job author. So far this has been the first well written izone fanfic I've ever read. Congratulations 👏👏👏

I finally reread this story so I can give a review of this whole masterpiece. First I loved how cute WonNako was at the end of the story. And I loved how the story progressed. Like how at the start it seemed like the school would be really bright because of how popular it is, but when you take a good look at what happens and what kind of people are in the school you can definitely see all the bad side. Second I loved the plot of the story and how Yuri and Chaewon was trying to bring back the music club because people abandoned it for other clubs that were considered “cool”. In the end I loved all the couples together they are all so cute together! Great Work!
