Epilogue 2: A New Family
The Third Snow PrinceThe servants and chefs fervently traveled in and out and throughout the kitchen.
The kitchen doors swung open as Kikwang entered the, followed by Himchan, “Is everything almost done?” Kikwang questioned, glancing over the chefs’ shoulders, complimenting them on their work. “Yes. They’re bringing the platters out now.” Himchan informed. “And the cake?” Kikwang asked. “Two have been made just as you asked. One large cake for everyone. And a small one without icing for the boys and a small cupcake for Kiyeon.” Himchan listed off.
Kikwang smiled, “Did I ever tell you that you’re the best?” He said. “Several times and even if you never did, I already know it.” Himchan brushed the compliment off. “Let’s take a look at the cakes, shall we?” Kikwang said excitedly. He was excited to see how they turned out.
The chefs took out the cakes from the back of the kitchen and brought them to the front.
As they carried the desserts toward the front, the kitchen doors opened, and two boys came running in, laughing and screaming. They ran around the chefs, servants, and tables, running between their legs.
Kikwang’s eyes widened. “Who got them started?” He groaned. Himchan shrugged. “I made sure there was no sugar in their breakfast this morning.”
“Yah! Jaeyoon, Sanghyuk. What are you doing? Come here.” Kikwang called to the two boys.
The boys ran to him, hiding behind him, tugging on his pants. “What’s going on? Why are you two running?” Kikwang questioned. “Appa.” Jaeyoon whispered. “Huh?” Kikwang asked his eldest son, not understanding. At that moment the doors burst opened and Doojoon stepped in. He scanned the room. His eyes immediately landed on his sons. A smirk appeared on his lips as he made eye contact with Sanghyuk. “Raaawwwr!!” he roared.
The two-year-old screamed and ran away, followed by Jaeyoon.
Kikwang frowned, “Of course.”
Doojoon chased after them.
“Yah! Stop running in the kitchen.” Kikwang ordered. He apologized to the chefs and servants for his family’s wild behavior. However, the three didn’t listen.
Kikwang’s frown only deepened and grabbed two forks and a knife. He waited before throwing all three utensils at his family members, trapping their sleeves into the wall.
Himchan’s heart nearly stopped. “Kikwang!” He scolded. “What? I threw the knife at Doojoon.” Kikwang assured. Himchan shook his head and walked to the toddlers. He removed the forks from their sleeves and picked them both up. “Let’s run outside, huh?” He said, carrying the princes out the Kitchen, “Wooyoung and JaeEun are outside.” He said earning a cheer from them.
Doojoon pulled the knife from his sleeve and tossed it in the sink. Kikwang gave him an unimpressed look. “What?” He questioned, wrapping his arms around the younger’s waist. “I told you not to get them started. They’re already going to have sugar today. And didn’t I tell you to change, everyone is already outside.” Kikwang scolded, seeing that the crowned prince was still in his pajamas. “Yes Mom~.” Doojoon remarked.
Kikwang rolled his eyes but ignored the comment. “Where’s Kiyeon?” He asked instead.
“She’s with Youngjae.” Doojoon answered.
A smile grew on Kikwang’s lips, “She likes him.” He said. “I know. She likes him a lot. She wouldn’t stop crying last night when we went to bed, so I had to bring her to their room, so she’d stop.” Doojoon remarked. Kikwang chuckled, knowing exactly what he was talking about. He’d pretended to be asleep, so he wouldn’t have to get up. “Your father is here too. They arrived this morning.” Doojoon informed.
Kikwang’s smile faded. He hadn’t spoken to King or Queen Jang in the last five years. Queen Yoon invited them to the party. She didn’t know about Kikwang’s relationship with his father and he didn’t want to upset her, so he didn’t object to it. The Earth Queen believed that it’d be a good idea for the young princes and princess to meet their other grandfather.
“I’m sure it won’t be that bad. They could’ve changed in the last five years.” Doojoon assured him. He was about to lean in for a kiss when Kikwang pressed his hands against his chest. Nuh uh. Not until you change.” Kikwang broke from his hold. “And shave, that weak mustache and beard make you look like a e. I won’t have you around my kids looking like that.” He added. Doojoon scoffed in disbelief but marched out the kitchen anyway, muttering under his breath.
“Wooyoung-ah!!” Sanghyuk screamed, running to his elder cousin, talking him. The two rolled onto the ground, entering into a play fight.
“I swear. Wooyoung is the only person that Sanghyuk remembers. I could be gone for a day and he’ll completely forget who I am.” Bora remarked. “Who would want to remember you?” Sunghak remarked. “It’s strange, Sanghyuk’s element is snow, but he’s wild compared to Jaeyoon.” Hyungseung noted before Bora could respond to Sunghak. “He doesn’t act according to his element.” “Haha, well neither does Kikwang.” YeEun remarked.
Everyone was gathered outside, behind the palace in celebration of the youngest Earth princess’s first birthday. Several balloons were strung throughout the land, along with several other decorations. Snacks and drinks were lined along the large tables. Kikwang and Doojoon came out fifteen minutes later to greet their family that attended the party.
“Junhong! You came!” Kikwang hugged his friend. “Of course, I did.” The Sunshine prince said. “You’ve gotten so tall. How have you been? I heard your parents are starting to look for someone
