Chapter 21: The Almost Ex-Girlfriend
The Bet
Jennie was so tired when she got into the restaurant. Her day was full of meetings and strategy planning and it drained the energy out of her. The waiter led her way to their table and it didn’t take long enough for Jennie to recognize the girl, how can she forget someone who almost made her commit?
“Jennie!” the girl stood from her seat and called out to her
“Hi, sorry I’m late.” Jennie greeted and gave the girl a hug
“No worries” the girl replied when they pulled out of the hug
“How long have you been waiting?”
“Not long actually, I just arrived a couple of minutes before you came in”
“Okay that’s good to know” Jennie smiled and gestured for them to take a seat
The two girls started catching up on their lives momentarily. Filling each other out of the details of the other person’s life for the past 3 years that they were apart. Jennie’s not gonna lie, she missed having this girl around, besides Lisa, she’s one of the few friends Jennie has.
“I really missed you Jennie” the girl held Jennie’s hand on the table and smiled softly at her
“I missed you too, Irene” Jennie paused to return a smile and squeezed the other girl’s hand “I’m glad you’re back”
“I’m glad too, and I’m sticking around for a while so you better not get tired of seeing my beautiful face”
Jennie snorted “You know I won’t”
“Figured. So, who’s your latest fling?” Irene asked nonchalantly
Jennie just smiled, she contemplated for a while telling Irene about Jisoo. But what would she tell her exactly? Jisoo and her are not together, she’s not Jennie’s girlfriend, and they are not even dating either. And most importantly, Jisoo is definitely not a fling.
“I’m not…. Seeing anyone”
Irene feigned a gasp “You? Jennie Kim?”
“It’s not a big deal” Jennie chuckled “I’m just done playing with people’s feelings”
Irene couldn’t believe it, she knew there’s probably a reason why but she chose not to push it further, Jennie will tell her eventually, there’s a reason why she’s leaving that part out in the first place anyway. So she just nodded “Mhmm, ‘kay, at least there’s not gonna be someone crying and whining because you chose to spend time with me than go on a date with them”
----
“Ugh, what’s taking the pizza guy so long, I’m starving” Jisoo whined
“Me too, I can’t concentrate on this because all I think about is food” Rosie joined
“Why are you working anyways? It’s already late and you’re already at home, you should be resting”
“Something came up with the project we’re working for Jennie unnie’s company. Which reminds me I gotta give her a call”
“Really? You’re gonna call her outside of working hours?”
“I have to if I want to get this done today unnie”
“Well, she’s having dinner with someone, she might not be able to answer your call”
“It’s just gonna be super quick” Rosie then picked up her phone and dialed Jennie’s number
After hearing the first ring on her phone, they heard the doorbell ringing which made Rosie run towards the door throwing her phone to Jisoo in the process hoping it’s the pizza delivery guy.
“Talk to Jennie unnie first, I heard it’s ringing already, I gotta go get the door, I need food unnie” Rosie said quickly
After a few more rings, someone finally picked up the phone “Hello?”
“Oh hi Jen…” Jisoo paused “You’re not Jennie” she continued after realizing the voice does not belong to Jennie.
“I’m not. She’s in the restroom. Do you want me to send her a message for you?” the girl on the other end of the line asked.
“Oh” Jisoo said, disappointment evident in her voice “It’s okay. Can you please just tell her to call this number back?”
“Sure. Would that be all?”
“Uhm.. Actually one more thing” Jisoo paused to sigh “May I know who am I speaking with?”
The line was silent for a while, and just when Jisoo thought the person would not tell her her name she heard the girl speak again “Irene”
“Okay. Thanks, Irene”
“Okay, bye”
“Unnie it’s dinner time!” Rosie came back carrying the box of pizza “oh wait, why’d you end the call? I need to talk to Jennie really quickly”
“She uh.. someone else answered her phone”
“What do you mean?”
“I told you she’s having dinner with someone right? The person
