Ding Dong!

He opened the door and stared in surprised at the sight that greeted him.  There, stood a woman whom he thought he would never see again.  The woman flashed him a smile.  His eyes narrowed, unimpressed.

"Wow!  This place is so big!" exclaimed an excited voice.

It was only then that he looked down beside the woman and noticed the little boy standing beside her with a backpack on his back and a lollipop in his mouth.  The boy could not have been more than seven or eight years old. 

He turned his attention back to the woman.  A frown quickly etched upon his face.  He knew something terrible was about to happen.  Before he could even close the door, the little boy ran inside and dropped his backpack on the floor.

"Do you have ice cream?  I want ice cream!" the little boy demanded as he ran amuck.

"Hey!" he called out to the little boy who seemed to be ignoring him.  He scratched his head in frustration and turned back to glare at the woman.  "What is the meaning of this?"

"I can't take him with me," the woman pleaded.  "Besides, we're family-"

"No!" he replied sternly.

Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of glass shattering.  He glanced back inside and saw the boy standing beside a broken bottle of wine.

"I didn't do it," the boy immediately denied.

He let out a deep sigh and glanced back to face the woman, only to discover that she was no longer there.
