EPISODE 4 Part 3

Descendants of the Sun Season 2

[EPISODE 4 PART 3]

"Do you understand now?" Jordan asks him once the paper was now nothing but ashes on their feet

"I do." Si Jin replies. He tucks the documents back into their folder.

"Good. Now you can get me out of here" Jordan remarks, holding out his arms which were bound by handcuffs.

But Si Jin starts to leave. "I'm sorry, but until I've confirmed this you'd have to stay here."

Confused of his actions, Jordan asks "where are you going?"

He only smiles at him and says "I have a date"

Si Jin wasn't out the door yet when Jordan stood up and called after him. "Be careful Major." he says, "They know that you're connected to me, which was one of my biggest mistakes." the Delta Force captain looked down, clearly he felt guilty about involving Si Jin in the matter. "They might hunt you down."

Si Jin's eyebrows wrinkled when he asked "why would they do that?"

"Because I lied to Anna, they would be looking for you."

Mo Yeon left the Hospital that day feeling giddy and excited, but somehow there was something else that she was feeling. It wasn't a happy one, but it wasn't fear either. Just a feeling that something big was about to happen, but she couldn't quite place it. She shrugged it off for now and went home.

5:35 PM. Her clock said when she got home, which left her only more than an hour to get ready. "Omo. Look at the time." She immediately took a quick shower, just to be refreshed, then proceeded to choose her outfit. After a few minutes of choosing she finally went with the one that she and Myeong Joo bought, that time they went shopping.

She decided that wearing something new would be best. She laid the dress on her bed and began fixing herself up. Blow-drying her hair and applying some make up. She decided against the jewelry, she didn't want Si Jin to think that she's prettying herself up too much.

Checking her wristwatch, it tells her that it was already a quarter to seven. It meant that Si Jin could knock on that door at any moment then suddenly her phone rings. "Eomma?" she says to herself then answers the call.

"Oh, Eomma, waeyo?"

"I'm just calling to remind you of your things. If you don't get these soon I'll throw them out." her mother says, she couldn't help but make a face.

"I'll get it tomorrow, arrasso?" she was almost about to hang up when she remembered something. "Gundae eomma..." she begins again.

"Oh, wae? Is everything alright?" It was amazing Mo Yeon thought how her mother could sense how something wasn't right just from the sound of her voice.

"Well, it's not that something is wrong..." Kang Mo Yeon begins, she tells her mom about her date with Si Jin then about the feeling she's been having "it's just that I have this feeling, like something's about to happen, but I don't know if it's something good or bad."

Her mom was silent for a moment, which only made Mo Yeon worry, "Eomma? are you there?"

"Yes, I'm here." her mother replies, "prepare yourself, if what I'm thinking is right, then it's definitely a good thing."

"What is it? What are you talking about?" Mo Yeon asked, her mom suddenly became very vague.

"Nothing dear, just enjoy the night, I don't want to spoil it for you. I'm hanging up okay?" and the line went dead.

What's up with her? I didn't say anything weird.

She continued to apply her makeup and when she was satisfied, she put all the necessary ones for touch ups in her clutch and placed it on the table before proceeding to put on her clothes and shoes. She chose to wear a simple black dress. It has a wide V-neck design showing her collar bones, which highlighted the look. The sleeves of the dress came to her elbows in a tight fit. The bodice also hugged her figure tightly with the length reaching just above her knees.

Not too y, not too casual. Just right.

Seo Dae Yeong came back that night from Pyeongjin and reported everything that they scouted to Si Jin who was on his way to Kang Mo Yeon's house.

"The area was clean." Seo Dae Yeong says, "They could have been tipped off that we were coming, why else would they set a trap?"

Si Jin thought about this. "Maybe there's something we're not seeing." Suddenly his phone alerted him that another call was coming in. "Listen, my dad's calling, let me call you back when I find something."

"Yes, Sir." Seo Dae Yeong hung up and Si Jin answered the call from his father.

"Ne, abeoji." he greeted, unable to shake off the edge from his voice.

"I know you're nervous, relax a little. This is why I'm calling." his father replied

"What do you mean?" in all honesty he was confused, somehow his father knew that something was up with him.

"Did you think I wouldn't notice when you came home all of a sudden, all smiles and sunshine, telling me you have to take something up to your room; that something being a Tiffany box?"

"How did y---"

"Once a soldier, always a soldier." his father replies, "Reflex, son. I'm observant."

Si Jin couldn't help the smile on his face as well as the laugh that came out of him.

"This could be one of the most difficult missions of your life son.  Good luck."

"Thank you Abeoji. We'll see how it goes." then he hung up; his heart beating faster as he nears Kang Mo Yeon's home.

*****

A few minutes later Kang Mo Yeon's doorbell rings and with one last look at her reflection, she headed for the door, silently praying for the night to go well.

The door opens and Si Jin takes in the sight in front of him.

His eyes widened. A smile crept on his face and the only thing that came out of his mouth was "Wow"

Mo Yeon laughs a little, "That's it?" she teases. "Forget about it then" and starts to close the door. But Si Jin held it open and stepped inside the house.

"You look beautiful."

Mo Yeon couldn't help the heat that flooded her cheeks. Si Jin always flirted with her before, telling her she was pretty and stuff but hearing it from him now, really made her heart flutter.

"So, shall we?" he asks, then extends her arm which she took and together they walked towards his car.

Once settled in, and they were driving, Mo Yeon couldn't help but notice something different from Si Jin today.

"You're nervous about something." She states rather than asks. "Are you alright?"

Si Jin only sends her a sideway glance and replies casually, "Depends"

Well that clears it up, Mo Yeon thinks to herself.  "Is it work?" she asks him again

"Nope." He says and she eases up a bit, she's always worried about SI Jin when it comes to his work. But then he adds, "Yes... Maybe?" That last bit sounded more like a question than an answer.

"Can you tell me about it?" she asked. She knew that most of Si Jin's work must remain confidential for his and peoples' safety.

"Maybe a bit later..." he says, and then adds thoughtfully, "around dessert."

The way he said it sounded like he was really trying to hide something and that piqued Mo Yeon's curiosity. Her eyes brightened up and she stopped asking questions, and just looked forward to dessert.

They arrive at this really nice restaurant and they were guided to their table. Aparently Si Jin had already made a reservation beforehand.

Though she said to herself that she wouldn't ask any more questions, she couldn't help the one that came out of ,

"What's with the fancy-fancy? Are we celebrating something?"

Si Jin couldn't help the gulp that he took when she asked that, he silently tells himself that it all depended on how dessert would go, but he only smiled at her, and he ordered their food.

"Fine." Mo Yeon says when the waiter disappears, "I'll wait." she says to him with a smile.

"And that," he says, a finger pointed to her, "is why I love you."

They laughed and talked about non-work related stuff in order to keep the mood light, but at the back of her mind, Mo Yeon still knew that there was something that Si Jin was hiding and it was worrying. They were almost finished with their main course and Mo Yeon could see that Si Jin was shifting in his seat.

She reached a hand over the table and touched his. "Don't worry, everything’s going to be fine." she smiled at him reassuringly, and he smiled back.

If only she knew why I was so nervous, he thought

Si Jin knew that it was almost time for dessert so he took a deep breath and held Mo Yeon's hand. He smiled at her, just admiring how this lovely woman was his, and hoping that he could finally call him his fiancé.

Mo Yeon couldn't help but smile back, "What?" she asked, "What is it? Do I have something on my face?"

Si Jin laughed a little, "Aniyo. You're perfect."

He straightened up and he held onto Mo Yeon's hand firmly, but not too tightly. "Kang-sonsaeng..." he began, he couldn't meet her eyes so he just looked at their intertwined fingers. "The reason I brought you here tonight..."

But he couldn't finish his sentence he notices something... a red dot, right there on their hands, and slowly, the dot crept up Mo Yeon's hand.

She's being targeted.

That's when his eyes went wide.

He was suddenly aware of his surroundings. There weren't many people in the restaurant. They were probably surrounded with enemies. He tried to look calm for Kang Mo Yeon, but he didn't have much time.

"Don't change your expression, just look at me, straight at me." He could tell she was confused but he did as he told her anyway, "When I give the signal, drop to the floor."

"What?"

"Just do what I tell you please."

His eyes were begging her to understand and though she couldn't she still nodded.

Si Jin slightly pushes a fork down the table, signalling Mo Yeon to 'pick it up'.

Kang Mo Yeon bends down casually and follows Si Jin's orders. Just then the sound of glass breaking shocks everyone. Si Jin drops beside her flipping their table over acting like a shield and shouting, "EVERYBODY DOWN!"

That was when the shots came in. All anyone could hear were guns being fired from outside the restaurant.

The next thing that Si Jin hears is Mo Yeon’s screams, mixed in with all the screaming inside the restaurant. He used his body to cover hers both of them flat on the ground as bullets were whizzing past their heads.

Mo Yeon was sobbing and she was shaking uncontrollably. Yoo Si Jin was afraid she was hit.

It took forever. But when the gunfire finally stopped all Mo Yeon and Si Jin can smell in the air was gunpowder, wood and blood.

It took him a few moments to regain his bearings but when Si Jin could focus on something, he saw that the entire place was wrecked. People were scattering, running towards all possible exits. Some were screaming for help, most were still on the ground-- wounded or dead, he didn't know, but before anything else he had to get Mo Yeon to safety.

He sees Kang Mo Yeon and she was no longer screaming; she was no longer crying. That got Si Jin worried. He didn't know if she was still alive.

He immediately felt her pulse, and sure enough there was a heartbeat, though it was faint, it was there. She was only unconscious. He wanted to check her thoroughly but there wasn't time. If what he was thinking was right then they were still in a lot of danger. He checks his surroundings, and when he was sure they were clear, he gathered Mo Yeon in his arms, and raced outside to his car. After gently placing Mo Yeon in the backseat he got in and drove as fast as he could to get away.

He kept driving for about fifteen minutes, without any real destination in mind. He just wanted to put some distance between them and the now-trashed restaurant. When he judged that he got far away enough, he stopped the car to check on Mo Yeon. Who now, upon closer inspection was covered in wood splinters and glass wounds and smelled of smoke from the attack. There was blood on her face coming down from a gentle trickle from a cut on her head near her hairline. She probably injured herself from pieces of wood that broke and went flying from the firing. Her dress was ruined and Si Jin must have dropped one of her shoes on the way out because one of them was missing.

He checked her body for other injuries and there seemed to be none. He reached for her hand and felt her pulse. There was a steady beat. She's in shock but she's alive. He reached for his cellphone and called Seo Dae Yeong to inform him of what happened, just then Mo Yeon bolted up screaming Si Jin's name.

"It's alright. You're alright, I'm here." he tells her, gathering her in his arms and gently smoothes his hand over her hair. "I'm here."

"How are you feeling? Can you move?" he asks her

She tried moving her hands slowly, then her arms. She nodded slowly, and then tried moving her legs to a proper sitting position. "I'm alright I think" she tells him her voice weak and faint. Now that she has regained her bearings Mo Yeon now took a look at Si Jin and almost screamed again. She reached out to touch his face, and he winced when she did.

"I probably look awful don't I?" He tried joking but even he didn't have that much energy left. He fixed her up as best as he could in the back seat.

"I'll drive us to Haesung alright? Just sit tight. Everything's going to be okay"

Mo Yeon only nodded her response, still too shaken up, not trusting herself to form a sentence.

It was already late that night but Eun Mi was scheduled for a night shift at the hospital, but it didn't bother her at all. The best part about working these late hours was that Park Minseok also took the night shift. They didn't really talk much, both of them were really busy, and they always handle different cases, but Eun Mi was happy in the ER. She felt like she was helping a lot; the nurses told her so too.

"Does it hurt when I do this?" Eun Mi asks a patient as she moves his arm a bit to test the patient's arm before she applied the cast. The patient was a 12-year-old boy who was in his middle school baseball team. He was rushed to the ER after his batting form was broken during his swing. He had strained his back causing him to fall, and broke his arm in the process.

"Just a bit doctor" the boy replied.

"I see." Eun Mi replied, smiling at the patient. "Don't worry, Noona will get you fixed right away." and she proceeded to wrap the boy's arm in the medical plaster.

"You must be really passionate about baseball" she says, trying to make conversation so that the boy would not be so nervous and worried about the pain.

"I want to be a professional player when I grow up" the boy replied proudly

"Really wow!" Eun Mi replies, she was almost finished with the plaster, and added, "But it may take a few more broken bones and some bruises before you get to be a pro."

The boy raised his chin and responded confidently "I don't care how many bones I break, I'm going to keep playing to get better"

Eun Mi smiled at him and said a few more words of encouragement then reminded him that they had to wait about 72 hours before it fully dries.

"I see you're having fun" a familiar voice says and Eun Mi turns to see Doctor Park. She smiles but doesn't reply. Park Minseok talks to the boy about baseball as Eun Mi clears the stuff she used to treat him, then excused herself.

"Tell me." Dr. Park says as he caught up to her by the nurse's station, He looked at her deep in her dark brown eyes, and held her stare, "Are you avoiding me?"

Eun Mi was taken aback. "What? Why would I do that?"

"I don't know, that's why I'm asking." He says, "Well are you?"

"If there's no reason for me to avoid you, then I won't" she replies coolly.

"Okay, come with me then," before she could protest he took her by the wrist and yanked her towards the cafe located right outside the hospital.

"Come on," he says, as he pulls her forward, "I sick of drinking instant coffee" he adds

They order the coffee and Park Minseok insisted on paying. Eun Mi didn't have a choice because she was dragged out of there so fast, she didn't even have time to grab some cash.

Their coffee break didn't take long; they started walking back to the hospital just a few moments after they took the first sip. But Eun Mi didn't want to pass up the opportunity to talk to an experienced doctor. She wanted to learn all that she could to be better.

"So tell me doctor.." she begins, "What made you enter the world of medicine."

Park Minseok smiled, a kind of smile that was both thoughtful and guarded at the same time, but his eyes hinted a sort of playfulness that Eun Mi didn't miss.

"Well that's an easy question Miss Jung. I became a doctor because I wanted to protect the world from sickness."

"How so?" Eun Mi asked, her curiosity piqued by his answer.

"When I was just a child, I played doctor with my parents. My mom was a nurse and my dad was a paediatrician. They took care of me a lot, and then there was a time when I got sick, I remember my mom saying, 'if only there was a way to protect you from all sickness'." Eun Mi noted that he looked kind of sad and proud at the same time, he must miss his parents.

Then he continued, "That's when I decided that I wanted to do the same for others-- I want to protect them from sickness"

"But you're in the ER." Eun Mi asked confused. Shouldn't he be a specialist or something? she thought to herself.

This question caused a laugh to come from Dr. Park, "I am actually here to fill in a Specialist position." This didn't surprise Eun Mi, from the short time that she has known him, she knew he was a good doctor. "But I'm spending time in the ER while I think about staying or returning to Canada."

"Oh" Eun Mi replied stupidly. She didn't know that he was offered such a position.

"Well enough about me, let's talk about something else."Dr. Park offered.

"What do we talk about then?" Eun Mi asked, taking a sip of her coffee

"Oh, I don't know. How about we talk about you?" he said, then stopped walking looking intently into Eun Mi's eyes like he could pull out the information he wanted to know about her by out her soul.

But before she could answer, her phone began ringing, silently cursing herself for not putting it on silent mode. She answered the call and almost yelled at the caller.

"Hello?"

"Eun Mi, it’s me."

"Si Jin oppa?" she says. Maybe she was imagining it, or did she see a kind of hurt expression cross the other doctor's eyes.  But that wasn't important right now, why was her cousin calling her this late in the night?

"I need help. I'm about five minutes from Haesung." Eun Mi could tell there was an edge of panic to her cousin's voice.

"Arrasso. I'll get help, calm down. Be careful" she hung up the phone. She looks at Minseok and his expression tells her that he understood.

"Duty calls." he says and they both race towards the ER.
