Our Third Meeting

Towards You

As you sat there on the ground holding your ankle, you noticed Jongin had stopped dancing and began running towards you. Before you could even process what happened, he was leaning beside you holding your ankle. You winced at his touch.

“Are you okay?!” he asked.

You assumed he hadn't recognized you since you were looking down and your hair was partially covering your face. He briefly looked up at you then did a double take.

Crap.

His eyes hovered over you for a while, almost as if he was trying to confirm that it was infact you. When he was sure, he hooked his index finger under your chin and slowly tilted your face up to meet his. Jongin's eyes briefly widened and he was hesitant at first, but he eventually brought his fingers up to your bangs and brushed them away from your eyes.

“You okay?” he asked again. This time it was softer, like a whisper.

You looked up at him and suddenly felt defenseless; the last thing you wanted was to seem weak in front of him.

When he didn’t hear a response from you, he gently brought his thumb up to your cheek and wiped away a single tear. You instinctively moved away from his touch.

“I’m okay” you nodded.  Jongin’s hand was still hovering in mid air; he glanced down and brought it back to his side.

“Can you stand?” he asked.

Oh, right I hurt my ankle. You were so surprised to see Jongin that you had completely forgotten you tripped. You suddenly felt mortified and hoped he didn’t think you were peeping at him or something.

You tried getting up and although it was painful, you tried your best because you just wanted to leave at this point. You tried taking a step but cried in pain and almost fell to the ground. Jongin grabbed the sides of your arms and prevented you from hitting the ground.

“You’re not okay” he said.

While you were still standing, he knelt down beside you and took a look at your ankle. “It looks like you may have sprained it” he said. He carefully massaged the area around your ankle while looking up at you every now and then. Your heart was thumping hard against your chest and you were having a hard time breathing.

“I’ll be fine I just have to walk it off.” you stated.

“It must have hurt though, you were crying” he replied.

You heart started beating faster and you had to remind yourself to breathe.

I was… crying?

You placed a hand on your cheek and saw that it was still damp from tears. Usually you’re quite tough when it comes to physical pain, probably because you got a lot cuts and bruises as a child and that lead you to slowly building up your pain tolerance.

So why was I crying.

You glanced down at Jongin who was still massaging your ankle and you had the sudden urge to caress his soft blonde hair. But you supressed it. He looked up at you and asked if you were okay now. You nodded.

“Let’s go to the infirmary just in case” he said.

You told him that you were okay and didn’t need to go, but he wasn’t taking no for an answer. He turned around and knelt down in front of you, motioning you to get on his back. You were hesitant at first but you knew that he wasn’t going to let this go, so you got on his back and he carried you out of the dance studio.

✥✥✥✥

You two walked out of the infirmary and you had a bandage wrapped around your ankle. The nurse had said you had a slight sprain and to stay away from any harsh physical activity for at least a few days. When the nurse asked how you got the injury, Jongin kept interrupting you and did all the talking himself. He kept asking the nurse questions like: “how long will the pain last?” and “does she need a cast?” The nurse laughed and assured him that it was just a minor sprain and there was nothing to worry about. You abruptly stopped walking when you thought you should tell Joonmyeon what happened. You fished out your phone from the bottom of the bag and saw that you had 3 text messages and a voicemail from Joonmyeon. He said that he received a panicked call from his mother saying that his Haraboji was in the hospital and that he had to leave immediately and couldn’t drive you home. He apologized and the messages were basically the word “sorry” repeated over and over again. You let out a small laugh; that was so like him to apologize like that. You then messaged him back saying that it was no big deal and you could take a taxi. Jongin glanced over at you when he noticed you giggling; his hands were in his pockets.

“So what were you doing at Royal Oaks? Did you follow me?” he smirked.

“Whaa-no! Of course not, why would I do that” you said, slightly embarrassed.

Jongin smiled at you with his teethy smile, and it made you a little nervous.

You cleared your throat. “I'm a student here and I just came to drop off something for my club association” you said, while putting away your phone. “You go to this university? I’ve never seen you around” you added.

Jongin ran his hand through his soft blonde hair while taking in the night air.  “I just transferred here, I was at a dance school for a bit” he said.

“Oh."

When you first saw him a few days ago, you assumed he would be enrolled in something dance related. Jongin's true passion was dance after all.

You braced yourself for what you were about to ask next, you almost talked yourself out of it. “So… you’re back for good?” you questioned, biting your lip.

He glanced over at you without turning his head. “Yeah” he said. “Well, you could say I ran away” he added.

You raised an eyebrow in surprise.

“You remember my Dad? Well once I got back to Korea, he started forcing me to go to all of his business meetings with him so that I could ‘see how things worked’” he said with an annoyed look.

“He basically wanted me to learn the basics right away, so when I came of age I would be ready to manage the company. Every time I tried to disagree he would just ignore me, so for a while I just went along with whatever he said. But after a while I couldn’t take it anymore. I left home for a while and joined a dance group in Seoul. My father was furious, but after a while he agreed to it as long as I didn’t neglect my office duties. But when I turned 18 he wanted me to start working professionally as his successor. I told him I couldn’t do what he asked of me, I told him I want to be a dancer and that’s all I want to invest my energy in.” he said.

You looked over at him and he was still staring straight ahead, with a neutral expression.

“So…” he said. “I moved back here. He was not happy about it, but it is what it is”.

He was looking down now, trying to hide his misery you guessed.

“Well…” you started to say. “At least you’re happy now. And the truth is that you’re at your best when you’re dancing Jongin.” You smiled at him.

He looked up and gave you a small smile which eventually turned into a full blown smile. You always loved his smile, he looked so adorable. Your smile started to fade once you realized where you were, you two were walking outside on campus for quite some time now. You looked at your watch; it read 10:45pm.

“Oh” you let out.

Jongin noticed and looked at his own watch; he didn’t realize how long you guys were talking either. “It’s late, let me drive you home” he said. He started walking towards his car which was parked by the entrance of the university. You called out behind him.

“I don’t need a ride it’s alright, I can take a taxi.” you turned around and started for the opposite direction when you felt his hand close around your wrist, you were stopped in your path. He turned you around to look at him.

“You’re hurt, I’m driving you home”

“Ani? I’m okay, see” you rolled your ankle and did a little jump. He laughed and pinched your nose.

“ahhh, that hurt” you cried.

“We’re neighbors,  it’s no trouble. Let’s go” he stated.

He grabbed your arm and walked you over to his car. He opened the passenger seat and sat you down, reaching over you to buckle you in. You caught a whiff of a familiar scent; it was very different from Sehun’s scent. Jongin scent was a lot stronger, something like a mixture of firewood and citrus, he smelt wonderful.

He then walked around the car and sat in the driver’s seat. “Ready?” he questioned. You nodded, giving him a small smile. With that, he started the car and you two drove off into the night.

Chapter 33: I am so glad that I found this story! It is beyond beautiful and it's probably my favorite Kai fanfic ever (this is a very big thing to say because I'm sure I've read more than 50 of those) but this one is definitely my favorite. It has the right amount of angst and twists and it is also pretty realistic. Although the last part where Sehun _________ (I don't want to spoil it) kind of hurt me a little, but I know not all things end happily. I will read your other works right now (if you have past works) or I will be looking out for your new stories! Thank you so much for this fanfic, I truly enjoyed it so much.

Chapter 22: Ahhh... You set them up to both be a perfect male lead with a good backstory.. Then.... You made Sehun slightly more likable before everyone reads the tags and realize he was never in the running. Curses.

Chapter 33: OMG... This story killed me. Although I was team jongin throughout the story, my heart went out to sehun for enduring all that pain by himself. I felt so sorry for him T_T I haven't read fanfics in a while and stumbled across this and it caught my attention right away. I'm so glad I read it. So many feels along the way and I'm glad I continued reading until the end. You're a wonderful author. Thank you for the beautiful story :)

Chapter 32: I just stumbled upon your story through the Kai tag and my oh my, I am not disappointed at all- It's really hard to find a fluff-angst story with tolerable amount of chapters like this one of yours (mainly because I'm just too picky and I'd like to finish reading within a day. Haha). And I really have to admit, you did make me feel like punching you in the guts at some chapters. The emotional roller coaster ride during the last few chapters drove me insane! (Not to mention how Jongin and Sehun made me unconsciously smile at their silly jokes.) All in all, I love love love this! I hope you'll create more wonderful works in the future!
