Chapter 5

“What did you say?” I just asked him a useless question because I can perfectly understand what he said. “I can never get mad at you. Why would I get mad at the reason of my existence, right?” Why does this phrase keep on repeating in my head?

“You heard me. Why do you want me to repeat it? Are you deaf?” He replied. Obviously, I can still sense the anger in his voice.

“You’re such a bother, you know?” I said. He really was! Does he know how hard it is for me to go through the day with him being mad at me?

“Look who’s talking” He just said and turned the other way.

What’s with him!? I’m so angry and sad at the same time! Only Kyuhyun can have this effect on me. I realized that even though he keeps on teasing and pestering me, I still miss the times in the morning where he would play with me and every time before he leaves the classroom, he would steal a kiss from me. I imagined this day without him doing all of these things to me. This day would definitely be the day that I would feel like all the sadness in the world has been dropped on my shoulders. How can you do this to me, Cho Kyuhyun? 

When Hyukjae arrived, I just went to his place and chatted with him about the concert. Talking with him brought back different memories. I remembered Kyuhyun mending my hand, protecting me, shouting at an innocent girl for me, holding hands with me and stealing a kiss from me. I can feel my eyes getting hot and I felt my heart sink. 

“Wookie, are you all right?” Hyukjae asked. He must’ve noticed the way my face looked like. 

“Yeah.” I replied plainly.

“No you’re not.” Hyukjae replied.

“How can you say?”

“Because you look like you’re gonna cry any minute now.” He said then he looked at me sincerely.

“Really?” I felt so numb that I didn’t care anymore. This sadness has already taken over my entire body.

Hyukjae was about to say something but Yesung interrupted us.

“What!? Wookie! Don’t cry!” Yesung shouted. 

I was surprised. Why did he just scream that I was about to cry!? Our classmates started to look at me but they didn’t really care that much so they just went back to what they were doing. I just looked at Hyukjae and with my eyes, I tried to tell him to help me.

“Ya! Yesung! Don’t over react okay?! And why are you eavesdropping on our conversation?!” Hyukjae told Yesung. “Just go mind your own business!” He added.

Yesung looked hurt by Hyukjae’s words.

“I’m so sorry Wookie. It will never happen again. I was just trying to help.” He said the he started walking back to his seat.

My conscience was bugging me like crazy. He was just curious and wanted to lend a helping hand but I was the one who ordered Hyukjae to ask him to leave us.

“Yesung!” I called him then he turned around and started to walk back towards us. 

I looked around to classroom to see if anyone was looking at our situation. As I was scanning the room, everyone was doing their own business but one was not. When my eyes spotted Kyuhyun looking worried, I just stared at him plainly until he looked at another direction. 

“Why are you calling him back!? I thought you wanted him to leave?” Hyukjae asked in bewilderment. 

“But you were too harsh!” I replied.

Hyukjae shook his head. 

“You’re too kind, Wookie.” He said.

I just didn’t mind his comment and waited until Yesung reached us.

“I’m so sorry, Wookie.” He immediately said.

“Don’t be. I should be the one apologizing. I’m so sorry Yesung if I was hard on you.” I said.

“No, Wookie! Don’t say you’re sorry.” He replied.

“Nah! It’s okay. I feel sorry for what I did and I think I should treat you today.” I was even surprised with my own words.

“W-what?! Treat me?! Today?! Just because you feel sorry?!” He was acting like he has seen a ghost. Do I really have that effect on him?

“Yeah, why not? We haven’t hung out for a while. Don’t worry, this date today is not considered as the date I gave you in your coupon. You can still keep that coupon and claim it in another day. But I tell you, don’t lose it! Once you lose it, you’ll also lose the date!” I said.

“Date? You’re considering your treat today as a date? I must be really lucky! I promise not to lose the coupon! I promise that if I lose it, my date will be gone too! Thank you so much Wookie! You just don’t know how happy I’ am right now!” Yesung shrieked.

“I’m glad I made you happy!” I said then winked at him.

“Gahhh! Thank you! I think I should go back right now before my heart melts and become the cause of my death.” He said then started to walk back to his seat.

“What did you do that for!?” Hyukjae suddenly asked me and slapped me lightly on the back.

“What!? You’re acting like I have committed the biggest mistake in the world! It’s just one date! What could go wrong?!” I asked him.

“What could go wrong?! Uhh a lot of things! He might think that you’re starting to give into him and he might take it the wrong way! Don’t give him reasons to keep on clinging onto you!” Hyukjae seriously said to me.

He was right, I should’ve not done that but Yesung was really kind to me. Giving the tickets and the medicine, that’s a different level of kindness already. Plus, I was really sad that I just didn’t have the right mind anymore. I guess some people are just like that. When they’re sad, they just want to do things that may lead others to believing that they’re really sad. I just wanted for that one person to notice what I’m feeling right now.

I was still debating with Hyukjae when the teacher arrived. I just went back to my seat not minding the guy next to me.

All throughout the morning periods, he wasn’t talking to me. I expected that he would behave that way but I still had a hard time taking it in. 

The bell rang which signaled that it was time for lunch break. Thank God! I can finally stay away from this confusing jerk.

As I stood up, I was surprised again. I felt lips touching my cheek for a second. I didn’t expect for that person to be him since he was furious. I turned to my right and saw that it was really Kyuhyun. Maybe I’ am dreaming! I’m just used to the fact that he keeps on stealing kissed from me! As I was trying to clear my mind, I realized that it was not a dream. His face was so close to mine and his eyes were serious but weak. I just looked at him with a confused look.

“Sorry.” He whispered and immediately ran out of the door.

Did just really happen? Did he just kissed me and said sorry? That guy who’s so arrogant and has a high pride? Did he really just do that? I kept asking myself.

His whisper sent little electric feelings throughout my body and when he said sorry like a weak person, I suddenly had the urge to hug him and comfort him. Good thing I was able to control myself.

“What just happened?” Hyukjae asked. I was surprised that he was already beside me. 

“Uhh I don’t even know.” I replied.

“You know, you owe me a lot of stories. I don’t even know what’s happening between the two of you!” Hyukjae protested.

“Happening? Why would there be anything between us?” I lied.

“Don’t fool me, Wookie! I might acted like a monkey last night at the concert but what I witnessed between the two of you can’t fool my eyes. I know I might started to imagine things last night but my eyes would never lie to me and neither should you.” He said,

His last words made me feel guilty. He was right again! I was his best friend and we should never keep secrets from each other right? 

“Let’s just go to our usual place and I’ll tell you everything best friend!” I said to him so he would cheer up.

“That’s better! Now let’s go! I can’t wait for your stories!” Hyukjae said excitedly.

“You’re like a girl! Craving for gossip.” I .

“I think I’m a girl born in a man’s body.” He added which made us laugh even more.

When we were already under the big tree, I felt a sense of familiarness. This was truly our comfort zone.

“Tell me everything now, Kim Ryeowook!” Hyukjae said, acting like the head of a military.

“Okay commander!” I added.

“Seriously, start now.” He said.

I told him everything that he doesn’t know yet. I told him the time when he gave me the chocolate cake, all his cheesy lines, the stolen kisses, the happenings during the concert and his unexpected anger this morning. 

“This is all happening so fast! He’s not even here for a week! How long has he been here? 3 days? But I can’t believe that everything is happening already! Day 1 was stealing a kiss from your lips, Day 2 was the concert and today is Day 3!” He explained to me.

Thinking about it, he was right again! He has only been in this school for 3 days! Is this how he can manipulate my life? I’m so confused and yet it’s only the third day! What will happen to me in a month? I just can’t imagine it.

“But to be serious, this is really different.” Hyukjae started to talk seriously. “I’ve heard many stories just like this. Even though the person has only known this particular person for 3 days, he couldn’t stop thinking about her and it was true love at first sight. Do you remember that story?” He asked me.

I remembered it. It was our teacher’s love story. He met a girl in college and he has only known her for 3 days but he felt like it has been a month because of the different things they did together. Eventually, they’re married now and are living happily. These kinds of stories prove that the feeling of true love is different. He said that we should know that we have met out true love because it is a distinct feeling compared to the other relationships that we might had.

“Yeah I remember but how can that apply to us? It’s not true love.” I said but there was a hesitant feeling inside me.

“Not true love? Are you sure about that? You don’t have to lie to yourself.” He said.

I might feel different feelings for him but I never considered it as true love. That is just too deep.

“We might still not know now but time will give us the answers.” Hyukjae said.

“Why so witty?” I .

“You know, when my best friend is in need, I can be totally a different person.” He said proudly.

“Aigoo! You’re so full of yourself!” We laughed together.

When I got back after lunch, I was alone because Hyukjae had to go to his locker first. As I went inside the classroom, I noticed that only a few people were only inside and Kyuhyun was not yet there. He’s usually already inside the classroom when I get back after lunch. 

It only took 2 minutes for Kyuhyun appear at the door and started to walk over to his seat.

I was observing him while walking and I didn’t believe what I saw. When he reached Yesung’s table, he smoothly slipped his hand inside his bag and snatched something from inside. When he got out his hand, I was bewildered when I realized what he took from Yesung’s bag. It was the coupon that I gave to Yesung! I was about to stand up and curse at him but there was a force from inside me that wanted to act like I didn’t see everything that just happened. In just one second the decision of just ignoring what happened took over.

I immediately shifted my eyes to the window beside me and pretended that nothing was wrong. You’re such an idiot Ryeowook! How can you just let him do that?! I told myself these things but I realized that a part of me really wanted to get the coupon lost and I sort of realized that I wanted Kyuhyun to be the reason why the coupon is missing. 

“Ryeowook-ah.” I felt someone nudging me. 

I turned around and saw a cute sight. It was Kyuhyun and he was pouting with his head bent down while his hand was holding onto my uniform.

“Ryeowook-ah.” He kept on repeating. The tone of his voice was weak and apologetic. 

“Uhmm I ‘m already facing you. You have to put your head up so you can tell what you want to say.” I told him sincerely. 

He put his head up and he realized that I was already looking at him. 

“Oh!” He was surprised that I easily gave into him.

“What?” I asked him.

“I said I was sorry.” He said. Memories of him stealing a kiss from me and his face so close to mine and his whisper came flooding into my mind. I felt my cheeks starting to burn. I’m facing the miracle worker again.

“Uhh yeah you did.” I just said. This was totally awkward for me. Seeing Kyuhyun so helpless can be touching.

“And?” He asked.

“And what?” I asked him back.

“Do you forgive me?” He asked seriously.

“What if I don’t want to?” I was just kidding. How can I not forgive him? I was going crazy a while ago when he was so furious.

“Then I will go to the rooftop of this school and jump of this building.” He said then he was about to stand up but I held onto his sleeve.

“Ya! I’m just kidding okay!? Don’t say things like that anymore” I said. Was I too obvious? Yes, I was. 

“So you forgive me?” He was starting to smile.

“I think you already know the answer for that.” I said then he was flashing me a huge grin.

“Thank you so much my cute little blushing Kim Ryeowook!” He said then ambushed me with a hug.

“I thought I wasn’t going to here that very long name of mine today.” I said without thinking.

“Why? Will you be disappointed if I didn’t say it for a day?” He broke our hug and he was facing me with his hands holding onto my shoulders so our bodies are only a few inches apart. 

“W-what? Who said that? What I mean was I thought I can already have a fine day because you didn’t call me by that long name but I guess this isn’t a fine day at all.” I lied. My mind was going crazy. He was so close.

“Yeah, whatever.” He just said with his deadly smirk.

He got something out of his bag.

“Here! A peace offering!” He said then he took out the same chocolate cake that he gave me last time.

“Wah! Chocolate cake!!” I couldn’t help but be excited.

“I know it’s your favorite.” He said.

In the cake, the word “sorry” can be found on top in blue icing. I was touched again.

“Eat up my cute little blushing Kim Ryeowook!” He said.

I started to open it and started eating. I was disturbed when he kept on staring at me.

“What?” I asked him.

“I want one bite!” He said acting like a baby.

“Then go and buy one!” I said to him.

“But that’s the only last piece. Please!!!!” He kept on begging.

“Fine! You should remember to buy yourself one next time!” I said then I gave him my fork.

“No! You feed me!” He protested.

“In your dreams!” I blurted out.

“Wookie!!! Please!! I wasn’t able to eat lunch properly because I was too busy cursing myself for getting all angry a while ago. I’m hungry!” He explained.

I was surprised that he kept on cursing himself. Did he really do that? Was he not able to eat lunch because of me?

“Fine but only this time.” I gave in. 

I got a portion of the cake and I faced him to feed him. His mouth was open wide which made me giggle. When I fed him, the blue icing from the word “sorry” was left on his nose. I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Why?! Why are you laughing?!” He asked.

“Hi Rudolf the blue nose reindeer!” I laughed so hard. 

He wiped his nose and realized what was happening. 

“So this is how you want things to be huh?!” His words were trying to tell me something.

“What do you mean?” I asked him.

He placed his finger on my cake and wiped the icing on my cheek.

“Ya! Cho Kyuhyun!” I shouted and started to do the same.

We were just playing with the icing of my cake and started to play with each other’s face.

This was truly heaven. I was mesmerized with his laughter and smile when we were playing. This was too fun to forget. We were so busy playing that we didn’t realize what was happening around us.

“Excuse me?” Someone said and we both stopped playing. When we looked at the front of the classroom, we realized that it was our teacher and everyone was looking at us. 

“Care to explain why you two are still playing when the teacher is already here?!” Our teacher asked us and we just looked at each other.
