Breathless
I woke up when I felt the sunrays hurting my eyes.
I know I am in a hospital but I do not know how long have I been here.
I saw my mother first sitting beside my bed.
My eyes searched for my wife but I didn’t see any shadow of her.
“She’s not here. She left when the doctor said your vital signs are stable already.” My Mom said. I didn’t hear her saying anything after what happened, I just saw her sighing.
“Dara…did your father and I lack anything while you were growing up?” and I saw Mom cry.
“M-mom.”
“You are our only child Dara and you know how much we do not want to lose you. I hope you understand us. But you know we will be respecting any decision you’ll be making. But, shouldn’t you also pay attention to the people who care about you?”
That’s what all my mother said, but it pierced me deeply. She didn’t say it directly but I know what she meant. And I am not sure if I can do it.
I stayed in the hospital for nine days. I was told I slept a whole day after the bullet was taken out from my body. But between those eight days, Chaerin didn’t come for any visit. The flowers I received from her when I woke up didn’t have a follow-up. I want to see her because I miss her so much.
Until it was time for me to go home.
“Dara, Chaerin called, she will pick you up.”
‘Why didn’t she call me instead, is she still mad?’
“Dara, I know what you are thinking, and you know the reason why. Now, I want you to be more understanding to her. Chaerin talked to me and I hope you could work things out this time.” She sounded sad.
