Chapter 26
Different Destinies
Daehyun’s blood was boiling, and he felt as if there was smoke coming out of his ears. His face turned red in anger as he stared – or rather, glared – at the man in front of him. Just before he could step forward to punch the hell out of him, he felt someone grabbing his arm. “Don’t make a scene now. Daehyun.”
He knew that Yongjae was right, but he just couldn’t stand there and do nothing while seeing Haeri break down in front of him.
It was a pure coincidence that B.A.P. had their schedule near Yangcheon, where D.O. had his own restaurant. Since Daehyun had tasted their food once before with Haeri and found them pretty good, he recommended that placed for their lunch takeout. After begging his temporary manager, he and Yongjae left the stuffy studio after disguising themselves.
But he didn’t expect to see the drama happening in front of him. He heard Suho’s supposed fiancée’s conversation with D.O., whom he recognized as the owner. And hell broke out when he noticed Haeri standing just behind them, with tears gathered in the corner of her eyes.
All Daehyun wanted to do was to pull Haeri into his arms and run to somewhere far away with her, leaving this entire situation behind; just the two of them... But he knew, it was like asking fish to swim on sand.
Suho’s head snapped at the direction of the voice, and his heart stopped beating right then and there. He saw mixture a of hurt, sadness, and betrayal in Haeri’s brown orbs. The longer he looked, the more he felt as if his heart was crushed, just by looking at her.
“Hae… Haeri…” He slowly stood up and moved from his chair, trying to get a hold of her hand but failed to do so as the latter took a step back. He felt hurt by her reaction, but he was aware that the reason for her current behavior was none other than himself.
“Fiancée…,” she mumbled once again - the word which seemed so foreign to her. She was repeating that over and over again, just to get familiar with it. Her heart broke every time she thought about it; and above all, the man whom she was dreaming to get married with someday, the man who led her to dream was now standing beside another woman as her fiancé.
D.O. bit his tongue back as he, too, was surprised by Haeri’s sudden appearance. But as the silence only got louder, he opened to mouth to speak, “Haeri, look here–”
“Is it true?” It didn't matter if someone other than Suho answered the question; she just needed an answer. “Haeri, would you listen to me fir–"
“I asked, is it true or not? Just answer that damn question!” She was surprised that how she was still able to stand in front of him, confronting him. She felt like her soul had already left her body when she saw Suho with Sarang, his first love.
“No–"
“It’s true, Sunbae,” Sarang butted in, cutting Suho off. She gave him a meaningful look which made him shut his mouth immediately. Suho regretted it. He regretted his decision to act as Sarang’s fake fiancé. He was doing this, because he was a coward, a bastard with no guts. And he, himself, had accepted that fact.
Haeri scoffed dryly and looked away, not letting her tears fall from her eyes, “Congratulations, then. I wish you both a happy married life.” Her voice was bitter; she'd put on one of her fake, broad smiles and turned around on her heels.
As she reached the other corner, she came face to face with Gyuon and her co-workers. She felt guilty that she had ruined their jolly lunch treat because of her personal issues. Digging into her bag, Haeri pulled out some bills and placed them on Gyuon’s palm.
“Sorry guys, but I couldn’t join you. You all enjoy,” she tried to put on the same smile, but failed miserably as she saw pity in Gyuon’s eyes. “Should I accompany you?” Gyuon grabbed Haeri’s arm as she passed by her. Haeri just shook her head, before dragging herself out of the place.
Gyuon threw her one last glare at Suho before she led her co-workers out of the restaurant too. She didn’t know about others, but she had lost her appetite when she saw how Haeri behaved. Therefore, she just joined the crowd but never got anything for her to eat.
The second Haeri disappeared from his sight, Suho came back to his senses and tried to run after her, but a strong arm held him back, “Don’t you dare to go after her. Or even show your face before her. Ever.” He could recognize that voice anywhere.
Suho turned around to meet Daehyun’s hard g
