Chapter Eight

Not So Lonely Island

Chapter Eight

"Yuri, are you being stupid?" Jessica asked in disbelief. Yuri shrugged, "I might be,"

"Just stay here, I'll be back in a jiffy,"

Jessica grabbed Yuri's hand, "What if they're out there?" she asked worriedly before quickly adding, "And who the hell says jiffy nowadays?"

Yuri rolled her eyes, "I'll just go to the pond to get some water. I'll be back quickly," Then she said, "And say jiffy," she gave a sloppy grin, placing her hand on Jessica's shoulder and squeezing it lightly, "I can take care of myself,"

Jessica wanted to say something, but thought against it. She simply nodded, biting down on her lower lip. Noticing the look on Jessica's face, Yuri leaned down and placed her lips on Jessica's, "Just stay here and take care of the fire, okay? I'll be back as soon as I can," she smiled, caressing Jessica's cheek with her thumb.

The blonde girl lightly held onto Yuri's wrist and nodded, "Be careful," Yuri's eyes arched into an eye smile, "I will, don't worry,"

Yuri froze in her tracks as she heard foot steps other than her own. She bent down and held her breath. Between the fallen tree branches and large leaves that she hid behind, she could see between the cracks and saw a group of men and women combined. They were clothed, each with some sort of spear in their hand.

She almost let out an audible gasp as one man turned, connecting eyes with her. Yuri's heart was beating so rapidly, but she was so sure her heart would stop beating entirely in a few seconds.

"What are you looking at?" One man said in Korean. Half of Yuri was glad that the island they were on was somewhere in Korea, while the other half of her wanted to scream in fear. The man who was staring at her shook his head and turned away, "Nothing, just a snake,"

"A snake?" One woman asked, "Let's get back to the huts then, we've gone far enough. I don't like the other side of the island,"

And they walked away, leaving Yuri to sit in completely silence before she got up and made a dash back to Jessica.

"Yuri? What happened?" Jessica asked in confusion as Yuri ran towards her. Yuri didn't respond but hugged Jessica tightly. She needed someone right now. She needed someone to give her a sense of security, a sense of protection. And when Jessica wrapped her arms around Yuri's waist, Yuri recieved it.

"What's wrong?"

Yuri wanted to tell her what happened, but she didn't want to scare the girl, "Jessica, we need to get off of this island as soon as possible,"

"Yuri, you're not telling me something," Jessica had a worried tone, attempting to pull away from the girl but Yuri only tightned her grip. Jessica gulped, "Tell me what happened,"

"Let's go inside the hut first,"

"I saw them," Yuri stated, staring down at the ground. Jessica's breath hitched.

"And one of them saw me," Yuri remembered how their eyes locked onto each other's, "But.. But the guy didn't say anything to s,"

"Wh– What language did they speak?" Jessica asked, slowly beginning to panic.

"Korean. They spoke Korean," Yuri answered immediately, "And it was so odd. He could've killed me right then and there.. but he didn't,"

Jessica widened her eyes, "WhereWhere did they see you? Was it close to our hut? Was it close to us?"

"They were at the pond, Jessica. The pond.. the one not too far from us,"

"I think I'd rather die than be killed for human sacrafice," Jessica whimpered and Yuri closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.

"What if they're waiting for the right time to kill us?" The blonde girl snapped her head towards Yuri, "What if they know you're not alone?" She gasped suddenly, "What if they've been watching us the whole time?" Yuri turned her head.

She stared into Jessica's terrified, worried eyes and her heart clenched in pain. It literally hurt to see Jessica like that. Jessica waited for Yuri to say something. Jessica waited for Yuri to comfort her and say words that'll remind her that she's not alone on the island, and that she wouldn't die.

But Yuri looked as scared as she did. Jessica knew she wouldn't get any comforting words that night.

"Yuri? Yuri?" Jessica shook the sleeping girl who didn't seem to want to wake up. Yuri didn't stir but she did groan. Jessica began to worry, "Yuri? What's wrong?"

She didn't respond. Lifting her hand, Jessica felt Yuri's forehead and gasped, "You have a fever," Jessica's heart began to pump loudly against her chest, vibrating against her ear drums, what if this was how she lost Yuri?

Standing up, Jessica took off her shirt and rushed down to the ocean, drenching her shirt in water, squeezing out excess liquid, then hurried back to Yuri. Entering the hut, Yuri was still laid down in the same exact position Jessica had left her in.

Jessica bent down and carefully took off Yuri's clothes, leaving her in her undergarments. Yuri didn't protest, she felt too weak to do anything. Jessica bit her lip and gently began to wipe away the sweat all over Yuri's body with her soaked shirt.

'Please don't die,' Jessica thought to herself as she wiped down Yuri's neck and forehead. Yuri opened her eyes slowly and saw Jessica with an ultimate look of worry on her face.

"You're sick," she stated, dabbing away a bead of sweat that formed on Yuri's temple.

"And you're shirtless," Yuri pointed out. Despite blushing, Jessica frowned, "That's not funny, Yuri, what if this is something serious?"

Yuri groaned and tried to stand up, only to be pushed back down into a laying position by Jessica, "Lay down and rest," Yuri rolled her eyes and looked up at Jessica, who was now wiping all around her neck.

"It's just a fever," Yuri said.

"Hold on, you must be thirsty, I'll get some water,"

"Don't go to the pond," Yuri spoke before Jessica exited the hut. Jessica sighed, "I wasn't planning to,"

"Here, sit up slowly," Jessica help the girl.

"I have a fever, I'm not that weak," Yuri retorted with a slight attitude. Jessica shrugged the girl's sarcastic remark off, knowing that it was only because she was sick.

"Drink," Jessica ordered, holding up the coconut shell full of water to Yuri's lips. Yuri drank it slowly, cringing at the taste before lightly pushing the shell away, "Okay, okay, that's enough,"

"Are you hungry?" The blonde girl asked, "I can go down and get some clams,"

"Are clams safe to eat when you're sick, Jessica?"

Jessica huffed, "No, probably not,"

"Are you trying to kill me?" Yuri asked sarcastically as she raised an eyebrow. Jessica frowned and knew that this was not the time to get hurt over Yuri's stupid questions, "I'll go find some fruit or something for you to eat,"

"Don't go far,"

"I won't," Jessica replied coldly and Yuri knew she may have triggered Jessica's emotions. She sighed a bit and laid in her hut, waiting for Jessica's return, hoepfully with some good fruit.

"I found.. I found a pineapple," Jessica held up the fruit in one hand, "And.. a couple of apples,"

She sat down next to Yuri, "Are you allergic?"

Yuri shook her head, "Not that I know of,"

"Okay, good," Jessica reached for one of the sharp rocks they kept in the hut, careful cutting open the pineapple, "Here," she reached over and held the piece of pineapple in front of Yuri's lips, "Open,"

Yuri bit the pineapple and began to chew, "Thank you,"

Jessica had a tinge of pink on her cheeks but nodded nonetheless and continued to cut the pinapple. Yuri's lips curved up, "You're cute when you blush,"

"Shut up," Jessica said, pink cheeks now turning red. Yuri let out a gentle chuckle and shifted her body so she was now laying on Jessica's lap, looking up at the girl who was still focused on cutting the pineapple.

"Jessica?" Yuri asked softly. Jessica looked down, "What is it?" she asked.

"When we get rescued," Yuri started off, "Will you still talk to me?"

Jessica raised her eyebrows at the question, "Of course, why would you ask that?" Yuri shrugged, "Because you and I," she began, no longer looking into Jessica's eyes, "You and I are from completely different worlds. You.. You're rich and famous and I, I'm just a deliquent with a relatively poor family. I'll taint your reputation if I hang out with you,"

The blonde girl smiled and wiped her pineapple juice hands on her nearby shirt that was still wet before caressing Yuri's cheeks, "Yuri," she smiled, "My reputation has been tainted a long time ago," she giggled.

"So you would still talk to me?"

"Of course," Jessica replied, pinching Yuri lightly on the cheeks.

But, deep down inside, Jessica wasn't so sure.
