Chapter Nine

Not So Lonely Island

Chapter Nine

"What do you mean he didn't do anything to you? He looked straight at you, Yuri," Jessica asked in disbelief, staring at Yuri's eyes despite the dim lighting. Yuri shook her head slowly, "I don't know, Jessica. He looked straight at me, I swear he did. But he didn't tell anyone. He didn't say anything,"

The older girl frowned deeply, "Okay, that means one out of two things," Jessica held up two fingers, "One, he still has some sense of humanity left in him," She wiggled one finger, "Or two,"

"He's planning something," The two of them said at the same time. Jessica groaned and flopped her body onto the ground, closing her eyes, "I want to go home. I want to get off of this island. I need to get off of this island,"

"I want the same thing, Jessica," Yuri coughed a bit and Jessica gazed up at the tan girl, "Still sick?" she asked.

"It hasn't even been a day, Jessica," Yuri rolled her eyes, "Yes, I'm still sick. But it's okay, I'm feeling better,"

Yuri added some more sticks to the fire before she laid down next to Jessica, "I want to go back to civilization,"

Raising an eyebrow, Jessica asked, "Why use the word 'civilization'? Why not just say 'home'?"

Yuri huffed her cheeks and blew out air, "Well," She shrugged, "Because I have no home,"

Jessica her side and propped up her elbow, resting her head against the palm of her hands, "What do you mean by that?"

"My dad basically kicked me out of my own 'home'" Yuri made air quotes, "Because I failed one class,"

"But you have a home, don't you?"

"It doesn't feel like a home," Yuri laid on her stomach, her chin planted on the top of her fists, "My dad passed away in service when I was eleven," She cleared a throat a little and chewed on her bottom lip, "And my mom got remarried to some guy named Yujin,"

Jessica listened intently.

"Yujin doesn't like me much. He has a daughter of his own, Im Yoona. My mom instantly loved Yoona, she was like the ideal daughter, perfect grades, pretty, polite, kind," Yuri's tone turned envious, "She is everything I'm not,"

Jessica spoke up.

"I'm not so sure about your grades but..." She trailed off, waiting until Yuri looked at her, "To me," Jessica bit her lip, "You're more than pretty– you're beautiful,"

Yuri's heart began to beat faster than usual and she could feel her cheeks warming up.

"And you're caring," Jessica felt Yuri's hand sliding across her waist. Jessica remembered how light Yuri's touch was against her cut, how Yuri always gave her the first pair of fruits they found, how Yuri always put her first.

"You're gentle, you're sweet," Her tone was now dimmed down to a gentle whisper. A flashback of the time Yuri hugged Jessica during the thunderstorm, how Yuri made sure that Jessica couldn't hear the loud thunder by blocking her ears with her own hands, flickered through Jessica's brain.

"You're protective," Their noses were grazing each other's and Jessica paused her talking, eyes fluttering close. Images of the human sacrafice scene popped up into Jessica's mind, remembering how Yuri immediately hugged her and got her out of there. Jessica remembered the fourth night they've been stuck on the island and she got lost, but Yuri found her.

Yuri pulled Jessica closer by the waist, their breaths mixing in. Bless the apples and pineapple for not giving them absolutely horrid breath.

"Don't stop when it's getting good," Yuri whispered in light amusement.

"You're.." Jessica couldn't comprehend any words, not with how close they were.

"I'm..." Yuri trailed off, slightly mocking the girl.

Feeling agitated, Jessica commanded, "Shut up and kiss me, Yuri,"

"Yes ma'am,"

Jessica's hand slipped passed Yuri's shoulder and pulled the girl closer by the nape, further more deepening the kiss. Jessica could feel her back sink back into the soft leaves they had laid over the hut floor as Yuri straddled her.

Kissing, it was something they could do to get their minds of off things - it was something they could do to forget what was happening just opposite of the island.

A gasp.

Yuri's hand massaged Jessica's bare hipbone.

"Yuri," A breathless mumble, butterfly kisses from her jawline down to her collarbone. Clothes began to seemingly discard themselves as the two girls lost themselves between the fine line of lust and love.

Yuri didn't feel so sick anymore.

"Wake up, Jessica," Yuri cooed, gently shaking the girl who was clinging onto her like a little koala. Their bare bodies pressed against each other. Jessica groaned and squinted her eyes. A blush immediately fell onto Jessica's cheeks as she noticed thier lack of clothing.

"Morning," Yuri grinned.

Jessica blushed deeply and playfully pushed Yuri away, "Put clothes on, please," she closed her eyes tightly, like an innocent kid. Yuri giggled, "You didn't say that last night,"

"Yuri!" she hissed.

"Alright, alright," Yuri let out another giggle and got dressed, "Okay, I'm done. I'm going to go get some fruits or something. Tend the fire, okay? I'll be back quickly,"

"Good thing you didn't say jiffy again,"

"Shut up," Yuri laughed, exiting the hut, leaving the blonde girl alone in her thoughts. Jessica sat up, a smile placed on her face. She didn't regret last night at all.

Not at all.

"You know what I wish?" Yuri spoke as she watched Jessica walk towards her from the tide.

"What?" Jessica responded, getting under the tree that Yuri was under, taking a break from the hot sun and sat down in the shade. Yuri sat next to Jessica.

"I wish that someone would pop out, like a famous celebrity, and tell us that this is all a prank or something," Yuri said, picking up the dry sand before letting it slip between the cracks of her fingers, "And that this was all a set up or something. So we could go home safe,"

"If only that could happen," Jessica mumbled, leaning her head on Yuri's shoulders, "I wish my dad will come and pick us up so he could bring us back home,"

Yuri kept silent for a moment before speaking again.

"You know," She began, connecting eyes with Jessica, "If it weren't for those people on the other side of the island," Jessica paid attention to each word Yuri said, "I wouldn't mind being on this island longer with you,"

Jessica opened in shock, "You're kidding, right?"

Yuri shook her head and broke the eye contact, "I'm not kidding," She mumbled, feeling a bit embarrassed because of Jessica's response.

Fingers interlocked with Yuri's, soft, warm fingers. She looked at Jessica, surprised at how close the girl was to her.

"Well if it makes you feel any better," She whispered, "I wouldn't mind staying on this island with you longer than expected either,"

The younger girl grinned and leaned down, capturing Jessica's lips with her own. Jessica smiled into the innocent, chaste kiss Yuri had given her before they leaned out. Yuri caresseed Jessica's cheek. She was tempted to say something, but she was afraid that it'll make things awkward between them. And Yuri did not want to be awkward with the only person she was stuck on this island with.

"Jessica,"

"Hmm?" Jessica hummed with expectant eyes.

"I like you," Yuri confessed, "A lot,"

Jessica's eyes seemed to light up, "I like you, too,"

"Really?"

"But," Jessica began, extinguishing the small fire of hope in Yuri's heart, "Let's see how everything plays out once we're off the island,"

Yuri clicked her tongue and moved away from Jessica, "Alright," She mumbled.

Jessica furrowed her eyebrows, "What? What is it?" She asked, noticing the sudden change of Yuri's tone.

"Nothing. I'm just hungry. Let's go get some fruits or something," Yuri stood up and Jessica watched her with a frown on her face, "We ate not too long ago,"

"Then I'll go alone,"

Jessica sprang to her feet, "No! No, I'm not letting you go alone," Yuri didn't say anything as she walked off with Jessica trailing behind her.

"What's the matter, Yuri?" Jessica asked that night as she sat up, watching Yuri tend to the fire when usually the both of them would already be asleep by now, in each other's arms.

Yuri shook her head slowly, "Nothing. I'm just overthinking,"

"Want to talk about it?" Jessica probed.

"No," Yuri breathed. Feeling dejected, Jessica frowned, "Fine,"

And at the cold tone of Jessica's, Yuri knew she did something wrong.

"I'm just worried," Yuri spoke up, poking the fire with a stick and seeing light embers erupt before dying off, "About what will happen to us after we get off the island,"

Jessica stared at Yuri's back.

"It's inevitable that you'll go back to being a famous CEO's daughter or whatever and that I'll go back to being a stupid, useless deliquent who can't even pass her classes," She spoke bitterly.

"You're not stupid or useless, Yuri," Jessica responded quietly.

"Try telling that to my family," Yuri retorted, now angrily messing around with the fire, not caring about the small embers that burn onto her skin.

"You're going to hurt yourself, Yuri," Jessica walked over, grabbing the girl's wrist. Yuri dropped the stick abruptly and stared at the sand.

"I'm scared, Jessica,"

Yuri's eyes turned glassy and it broke Jessica's heart everytime she saw Yuri's vulnurable side.

"I'm scared I'm going to lose you,"
