Chapter Seventeen

Not So Lonely Island

Chapter Seventeen

Yuri learned that Jessica was one to cry at animated family movies. She teased the older one all the way out of the theaters as the blonde girl smacked the arm she was clinging to.

"All I'm saying is you cried a lot." Yuri laughed, opening the glass door for the both of them. Jessica pinched her.

"It was sad."

"It was a kids movie."

"Kids movies are sad." Jessica counters. "Didn't you find it sad?"

Yuri shrugged. "I did... until I saw you crying." She laughed. "Then, I found it funny."

"You're such a douchebag." Jessica whined. "I wasn't crying."

The taller girl nudged her. "What? So were you sweating out your eye sockets?"

"Yes." Jessica replied without missing a beat, her hands wrapping around Yuri's arm, pulling her closer. "Now, stop making fun of me for it."

Yuri's heart felt warm. It wasn't freaking like she thought it would've been. It was just a very content feeling. "Where to now?"

"Let's just go sit down somewhere. I'm exhausted."

"Yeah, well you cried so much."

"Shut up." Yuri just laughed as the girl punched her arm.

They sat down at the bench next to the park where a bunch of kids ran around with laughter and squeals.

"Say, Sica," Yuri started off, the nickname rolling off her tongue as a force of habit. She played it cool despite the surprised look on Jessica's face. "do your dreams occur often?" She asked.

"I'd say every other day." Jessica answered. Yuri stared at her. The older girl succumbed under her stare. "Okay, it's been every night."

"Jessica." Yuri frowned. Jessica groaned.

"Please don't start lecturing me."

"I really think you should see someone about it." Yuri said, placing a hand on Jessica's knee. Jessica's eyes flickered down to Yuri's hand before focusing on Yuri's face.

"I don't want to."

"Sometimes the things we don't want to do is what's best." Yuri gave a small smile, patting her knee before removing her hand.

"When did you get so philosphical?" Jessica asked in amusement. Yuri chuckled. The blonde girl's face turned serious, her eyes wandering towards the kids on the playground. "Do your really want me to go see someone?"

Yuri stared at the girl's profile. "Yeah, I do."

Jessica sighed, dropping her head down so Yuri couldn't see her face. "Fine. I'll tell someone at home today."

"Really? That's gr - "

"On one condition." Jessica clasped her hands together, keeping them in her lap. "You go with me."

"Go with you?" Yuri questioned.

"We were on the island together. It'll only make sense if we took sessions together." Jessica reasoned. She didn't want to admit she just wanted to spend time with Yuri without seeming clingy. "And, besides, didn't you say that you had nightmares, too?"

Yuri sighed. "Fine."

Jessica looked up at her. "Really?"

The taller one hummed. "Yeah, I think it'll help both of us get over all of what happened."

A smile began to grow on Jessica's face. "Thank you."

"No problem." Yuri smiled back at her. Jessica scooted closer to Yuri, leaning her head on her shoulder.

"I'd feel more comfortable if you were with me at the sessions." Yuri wished she could control the pace of her heartbeat that began to pick up. She kept her silence, the two of them just watching the kids play. Eventually, the two of them got up and decided to walk back home to Jessica's place. A couple of people recognized them on the streets, taking pictures of them as if they were celebrities. Well - in Jessica's case, that might be true - but not for Yuri.

"God, I hate paparazzi." Jessica rolled her eyes in irritation as they entered the main gate of the mansion. They walked across the large yard and the door was opened for them by a butler. Jessica was greeted by all the workers and Yuri was, as well.

"We'll be in my room. No need to bother us." Jessica told them all before taking Yuri's hand and leading them up the stairs. Her room was all the way at the end of the hall, and it was huge.

"Woah, you live pretty nicely, don't you?" Yuri asked with wide eyes as she walked around the room with pale yellow walls. There were pictures up on the wall, mostly of herself taken from magazines or commercials. It gave Yuri's heart a little squeeze when she remembered just how different she and Jessica were.

Jessica scoffed. "I suppose so. It's all for nothing. I don't like staying in my room much." Yuri stood in front of one particular picture, one that wasn't professionally taken. It was a polaroid of her and another girl. Jessica had blonde hair, so the picture must've been recent - before the crash.

"That's Krystal." Jessica stated, coming up to stand next to Yuri. "She's my younger sister."

"She's pretty." Yuri stated, although her eyes were focused on the blonde girl in the photo. Jessica smiled. "Isn't she?"

"I was in America to visit her at my mom's house." Yuri was well aware of how much she didn't know about Jessica Jung, and that just made her want to know everything about the girl.

Yuri hummed, eyes still focused on the smile Jessica had on in the photo. It was genuine happiness displayed in her eyes. This photo was the only personal photo on Jessica's walls. It was Yuri's favorite.

"Thinking about it now, all these other photos on my wall make me sick to the stomach." Jessica said. "Want to help me take them down?"

"What?' Yuri asked with a raised eyebrow. Jessica smiled.

"You can get the ones that I'm too short to reach."

"There." All the photos but the one polaroid of Jessica and her sister were taken off the walls and were stacked neatly on Jessica's floor. "It looks so much more cleaner."

Yuri smiled down at the shorter girl. "You were so bratty when I first met you."

"Wow, rude much?" Jessica laughed at the sudden statement, not offended at all. "I admit, I was pretty bratty."

The two of them sat on the edge of Jessica's bed. "You've changed a lot." Yuri said.

Jessica eyed her. "In a good way?"

"Of course." Yuri smiled, bumping her knee with Jessica's. "You've matured."

"Thanks." Jessica managed to get out, her cheeks burning up. She cleared . "Anyways, you live in America, don't you?"

"Huh?" Yuri asked. Jessica positioned her body so she was leaning against the headboard. Yuri did the same. "You told me that your stepfather sent you to Korea to learn manners or something, right?"

"Oh... right."

"So, you live in America?"

"We were planning on moving to Korea." Yuri explained. "When my mom and Yujin, my stepfather, got married, they were discussing plans about moving to Korea. Apparently, Yujin despised me so much he wanted to send me off first."

"Where would you have stayed?"

"My aunt's house."

"Ah, I see." Jessica said.

"They got everything settled in the time we were at the island so..."

"It's pretty convenient how close we live to each other, huh?" Jessica smiled. The smile was contagious - that or Yuri was just weak when it came to Jessica. She smiled, too.

"Yeah, it is."

Jessica laid her head on Yuri's shoulder. "We never got to talk like this at the island."

"It's kinda hard to hold a conversation when you had to struggle to survive." Yuri commented with a hint of playfulness. They could laugh about it now. It was behind them.

"How did we even manage the time to have , then?" Jessica asked bluntly. Yuri could feel the blonde girl stiffen up. "Sorry, don't answer that." She blushed, scolding herself for not thinking over her words before saying them.

Yuri just laughed it off, although a heavy feeling sank down into her chest. "You were the only other person on the island with me." She said.

Jessica closed her eyes. Right. Yuri would've done the same if it were any other girl on the island with her besides Jessica. It was just because they were alone and vulnurable. That's all it was when it came down to it, really.

"Right." She mumbled, her heart beating slowly as the realization sank in. Her eyes stung behind her eyelids. Yuri released a deep breath.

"I'm just glad we got out of there." Yuri's hand found its way to Jessica's thigh, patting it. Both of Jessica's hands reached down to hold onto Yuri's hand, her eyes still closed. "Hey, did they ever tell you the story about how they found us?"

Jessica played with Yuri's fingers. "No. The minute I woke up my butler sent me home and stylists started to work on my appearance."

"My doctor told me."

Jessica opened her eyes, looking up at Yuri.

"It was a helicopter your dad sent out. We weren't that far from civilization, you know? They saw our S.O.S sign." Yuri sighed. "It was perfect timing, too."

Jessica gulped down the lump in just as Yuri turned her head to look at her.

"Why did you run towards them, Sica? You could've very well been killed. They knocked you out cold before doing the same to me."

Jessica didn't want to admit that she did it because she loved Yuri. "I did it because I'd rather the both of us die then just you die, leaving me."

"Makes sense." Yuri said, looking away from her. "The helicopter scared them off and they let us go as it landed. That's all that Yujin told me." Jessica just held Yuri's hand tighter.

"Yujin keeps wanting me to accept interviews to gain money for college." Yuri decided to change the topic. "I guess it's not that big of a deal, but I was never one for school."

"We should go to those interviews together." Jessica stated. Yuri widened her eyes.

"You'll go with me?"

Jessica smiled.

"It's one or none, isn't it?"
