Chapter Nineteen

Not So Lonely Island

Chapter Nineteen

Days passed after that night. The two of them were so busy that they hadn't had a proper time to talk. It was getting on Yuri's last nerve.

"Hey, Kwon Yuri, wake up." A voice woke the sleeping girl. "We're going to be late." The same voice became clearer as Yuri properly woke up. Jessica was tugging on her arm. "Hurry."

"I'm up, I'm up." Yuri groaned. Jessica let go of her. "I'll wait in the car." She began to walk to the door.

"We need to talk." Yuri's words froze her. "You know that, right?"

"There's nothing to talk about." Jessica said quietly.

"Jessica." Yuri called out in a pleading voice.

"We're going to be late." Jessica said.

"I don't care. I'm not going if you're not going to talk to me."

Jessica her heels. "I told you already. There's nothing to talk about." Her voice was low, most likely so the workers couldn't hear her. "If you don't want to go then fine. I'll just have someone tell them that you're sick." She said, facing the girl who was sitting on the edge of her bed. "We'll talk after you eat breakfast. I'll be in my room."

The blonde girl sat on her bed as Yuri stood awkwardly by her desk. "When did you realize that you... liked me?" Yuri asked right away, deciding not to beat around the bush. Jessica hummed.

"Since the island." She answered honestly. Yuri widened her eyes.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"I did." Jessica raised her eyebrows. "Actually, we both did. On the island we said that we liked each other, did we not?"

"We both..." Yuri trailed off because she realized that Jessica was right.

"Jessica,"

"Hmm?" Jessica hummed with expectant eyes.

"I like you," Yuri confessed, "A lot,"

Jessica's eyes seemed to light up, "I like you, too,"

"Really?"

"But," Jessica began, extinguishing the small fire of hope in Yuri's heart, "Let's see how everything plays out once we're off the island,"

"But, Jessica, you said - "

"I know what I said." Jessica cut her off. "You had the same thoughts though, didn't you? We live two different lives."

"Of course I had the same thoughts. But I really did lo- liked you." Yuri explained. "And then you acted like I didn't exist... and I saw you backstage smiling to all the staff all bright and stuff..."

Jessica stood up. "Yuri, those smiles were fake. And... And I wasn't sure if you even wanted to talk to me. For all I know I was just a thing of the past."

"How could you say that?" Yuri asked with furrowed eyebrows. Jessica looked away. "It could've been anyone on that island. You could've gained feelings for anyone."

"But it was you." Yuri emphasized. "Fate's gotta count for something, right?"

"So what?" Jessica countered. "So what if it was me? Now you have Yujee."

Yuri stayed silent. What does she do? Jessica walked up to Yuri and patted her cheek. "It's probably better this way." She said. "The island was pretty traumatizing. It's not good to hold onto things related to something that has scarred you." Yuri grabbed Jessica's wrist, pulling her hand away from her cheek.

"But you're not just a thing that was related to it. You were the only good thing related to it." She said seriously. Jessica took a step back.

"You're going to have to move on eventually." She muttered. "This popularity will die down soon enough and then I'll be back to being the same girl I was before the island. You'll keep dating Yujee and you'll go to college." She spoke as if it were so easy.

Yuri frowned. "You've changed so much because of the island. You won't go back to the girl you were."

Jessica sighed. "And what's it to you? What's the point of this conversation that we're having? Did you just want to know how I felt? Is that it?" She was turning a bit aggressive, jerking her arm away from Yuri's hold. "Well, I love you, Kwon Yuri." She confessed. "Now you know." She walked back to her bed and sat on the edge of it with a deep breath. She inhaled and exhaled whilst counting to ten.

Yuri just stared at her. Jessica closed her eyes. "What about you?" She asked, her eyes still closed. "Do you still like me?"

"Yes." Yuri admitted.

Jessica opened her eyes and looked at the younger girl. "You can't have both of us." She said, referring to Yujee and her.

"Then..."

Yuri gulped down the lump in .

"Then I choose you."

Jessica widened her eyes. "What?"

She walked closer. "I said I choose you."

"B - But Yujee..." Jessica was still staring at the girl who was now sat down next to her with wide eyes. Her heart was pounding loudly against her chest.

"Yujee's amazing, and I'm thankful for her..." Yuri said. "But, you're you. I don't have any other Jessica Jung in my life."

"You barely even know me." Jessica's eyes began to water up. "You don't even..."

Yuri reached up and placed a hand on Jessica's cheek, her thumb the soft skin.

"Then let me get to know you." Yuri mumbled. Jessica let out a shaky breath.

"Okay."

Yuri pulled Jessica into her arms, hugging her. Jessica was practically in her lap, her small arms wrapped around Yuri's neck.

"Oh God, you must've been so annoyed whenever I would talk about Yujee." Yuri's voice was muffled by Jessica's shoulder.

Jessica let out a humorless chuckle.

"It hurt like hell." She replied.

"I'm sorry." Yuri tightened her hold on Jessica's waist.

"Not your fault." Jessica hummed, breathing in Yuri's scent. "But you're not kissing me until you break up with her. That's still considered cheating."

"I hate cheaters as much as you do." Yuri laughed, running her fingers through Jessica's hair. Jessica let out a sigh.

"What was that for?" Yuri asked in amusement.

"I feel like a weight has just been lifted off of my shoulders." She replied, turning her head so she was facing Yuri's neck.

"Yeah?" Yuri asked, feeling the girl's breath on her sensitive skin.

"Hell yeah." Jessica closed her eyes. "I assumed you got over me."

"I assumed you never really liked me..." Yuri said absentmindedly.

Jessica pulled away in surprise. "What?! I gave you my first time and you thought I never liked you!? You idiot!" She slapped Yuri on the arm. Yuri laughed and rubbed the spot Jessica hit.

"Ow." She said. "It's not my fault!"

The two continued to bicker, the atmosphere around them much brighter than it had been for the past few days.
