Chapter One

Not So Lonely Island

Chapter One

'Ow, my arm hurts,'

It was the first thing that ran through Yuri's mind as she struggled to maintain steady breathing. Opening her eyes, Yuri found her left arm trapped under some sort of luggage. With her healthy arm, Yuri pushed the object off of her and carefully sat up, rubbing her sore head and squinting as her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the sun that was blazing down on her.

"What the hell," she muttered in awe as she looked around. She was on a beach of some sort and as her eyes ventured further, into the sea, she saw the front of the plane, bodies floating lifelessly on the surface of the clear blue water. With a gasp, Yuri then realized the plane she was on had crashed.

"Crap, crap, crap," she repeated, panicking now. Yuri's eyes darted towards the beach were debris of the destroyed plane was scattered all around. Bodies were also laid, most were dead from Yuri's perspective, with blood already leaking out, staining the smooth white sand with dark blotches of red. She blinked rapidly, heartbeat racing as she stood up.

Yuri needed to find someone else who was alive, she needed to. That's when Yuri heard a voice call out, a very high pitched voice. She turned immediately and scrambled over scrap metal, towards the voice. The sight surprised her. Blondie was leaning on what seemed to be what was left of the plane's back wing and was clutching her waist, face contorted in pain.

'Why her?' Yuri thought bitterly but was happy nonetheless that someone else was actually alive.

"Hey!" Yuri yelled out, walking towards the girl who snapped her head towards Yuri. Blondie let out a gasp as she tried to speak. Yuri looked around, trying to see if there was anybody else alive. She couldn't find anyone else. Yuri turned her attention back to the blonde girl.

"Your.. Your waist," Yuri started off before her eyes traveled down to Blondie's hand that was clutching her waist. The cloth of her shirt around that area was a deep shade of red. Blood.

"It.. It hurts," Blondie whimpered. Yuri's eyes scanned the area and she noticed a stray suitcase. Running over, Yuri ped the thing with her right hand and

rummaged through it before she pulled out a scarf of some sort, something that could be used as a bandage to stop the bleeding for now. Walking back over to the crying girl, Yuri kneeled down.

"Lift your arm," she ordered.

The blonde girl released a shaky breath, "It– It–"

"You gotta let me wrap this around," Yuri said, holding up the black scarf.

Slowly, the girl let go of her waist and bit the inside of her cheek to keep from screaming out in pain. Yuri gently lifted up the girl's tanktop and saw the gash that was across the girl's petite waist. Hissing a bit, Blondie tried her best to keep calm as Yuri wrapped the clothing article across the cut before tightly knoting it.

After that, Yuri contemplated on what to do next. It wasn't everyday that you would get stuck on an island. Yuri looked at Blondie, "What's your name?"

"Jessica," the girl answered.

"I'm Yuri," she responded before turning and looking at the many bodies on the beach, "I'm going to go check if anyone else is alive,"

Jessica's eyes began to tear up in fear but she nodded and Yuri got off the ground then she walked to every body on the beach, kicking with her feet at the limp humans but to no avail. They were all gone. Dead.

Reality hit Yuri in the face. This was going to be her soon. She was stuck. On an island. With the world's biggest spoilt brat.

Clutching her left arm with her right, Yuri closed her eyes for a moment, letting the seriousness of her situation soak in before opening her eyes and walking back over to Jessica.

The girl seemed more relaxed but not completely. Yuri looked down at her and casted a shadow. Jessica looked up, raising a hand to block out the bright sun that was to her right.

"We have to check if this place is inhabitated, maybe someone could help us,"

"We?" Jessica questioned.

"Yes, we," Yuri emphasized, "You and I are the only ones alive on this damn place and you're going to help me,"

Jessica blinked twice at Yuri before speaking again, "My dad will be here soon, he can take us back,"

Yuri's eyes turned to the sun that was setting, causing the sky to turn a mix of blue and orange. Her eyes darted back to Jessica, "Look here, Jessica," the raven-haired girl spoke in a bitter tone, "Unless you want to end up like them," Yuri pointed behind her, towards the bodies laid across the beach, "We're going to have to make something work on this island until your daddy finds us," her eyes were stern, "Got it?"

It was the first time someone had the audacity to speak back to her, Jessica's eyes showed a hint of amusement, "I suppose so,"

"What do you want to do then, Yuri?"

Yuri leaned down and gingerly wrapped an arm around Jessica's waist, careful of the cut, "You're going to have to walk,"

"I can walk by myself," Jessica stated, flustered at the sudden action.

"You're injured, we need to stick together and help each other–" Yuri began to stand up along with Jessica. "–no matter how bad you annoy me," Yuri added under her breath.

"What was that?"

"Nothing,"

As they walked down the beach, careful to avoid any bodies or metal scraps, Jessica pointed upwards, "Look,"

"What?" Yuri asked as she stopped walking, looking at the direction Jessica was pointing to. "Coconuts," Jessica answered and indeed there were coconuts. All the way up the tall palm tree.

"How am I supposed to reach that with my arm like this?" Yuri asked, lifting up her left arm painfully. The blonde girl let out a huff, "Throw something at it?" she suggested before her eyes zoned in on something, "Or we can just pick some off the ground,"

Yuri's eyes snapped towards the grass and she gently tugged Jessica's waist, in which the blonde girl yelped, "Hey! That hurts,"

"Sorry," Yuri muttered as she walked closer to the coconut before reaching down and picking it up, shaking it and listening to the liquid inside, "It's full,"

"Go bang it on that rock," Jessica ordered, pointing to a large rock not to far from them. Yuri rolled her eyes at Jessica's attitude before she helped Jessica walk towards the rock before letting the girl sit down as she opened up the coconut, hitting it against the sharp edge of the rock. After sucessfully getting the coconut open, Yuri took a sip out of it, careful not to let any spill as she let the bitter sweet liquid flow down .

"Give me some," Jessica whined, causing Yuri to roll her eyes yet again but she sat down next to Jessica, "Don't spill it,"

"I won't,"

Placing her lips on the side of the hairy outershell and sipped it cautiously. Yuri watched as Jessica took a generous amount before snatching the coconut back,

downing the rest in one gulp.

Peeling the inside of the coconut off, Yuri asked Jessica, "This is edible, right?"

"I don't know, eat it," she shrugged. And she did just that. Yuri chewed on it, getting all the liquid out before spitting it onto the grass nearby, "I think it's edible," she stated, "Want some?"

Jessica grimaced, "No thanks,"

"Suit yourself,"

The two sat in the shade as night time came, "Shouldn't we find somewhere to sleep?" Jessica asked as they leaned on a rock, eyes wandering out onto the beach as the tide moved upwards, washing away most of the blood and the bodies that were on the shore earlier.

Yuri stood up and Jessica eyed her, "Where are you going?" she asked as Yuri walked down towards the shore.

"I'm going to snatch some of that luggage before it gets washed into sea, we might be able to use something in there,"

"Well, hurry back," Jessica called out, eyes darting around, feeling more scared and vulnurable now that Yuri had gone. Her waist still hurt but the bleeding had stopped and she could breath normally now.

Jessica couldn't wait to get back home in Korea and lay down in her bedroom. Her father had sent her to America to study abroad and now that Summer was here, she couldn't wait to go back to Korea.

Then the crash happened.

Down at the shore where the water reached Yuri's thighs, the girl grabbed as many suitcases she could with one arm and dragged them to dry land, repeating this

process many times. Jessica's eyes adjusted to the dark vision and saw something in the water, something she's only seen in movies– horror movies.

A dark shadow. And a fin.

Widening her eyes, Jessica tried to get up, "Yuri!" she screamed, ignoring the sharp pain that ensued in her body afterwards.

Yuri was now in water deeper than she could stand, eyes finding Jessica's body that was now pointing at something in the water, "Yuri!"

"Shark!"

Shock filled Yuri's body before she raced back to shore.

Jessica's heart plummeted as she saw the shadow now chasing after Yuri.

Yuri was the only survivor on the island with her, if she dies—

Her thoughts were cut off as Yuri shrieked.

Gasping, Jessica's eyes watched as Yuri seemed to get shoved, finally reaching land as the shark turned away.

Jessica struggled to walk down but when she finally reached Yuri, she outstretched her arms, "What's wrong? Did it bite you?"

Yuri, who was shaken up, shook her head, sitting down on the sand as her clothes clung to her body, "That was so scary," she mumbled.

The blonde girl sat next to Yuri, "I could imagine," Jessica's eyes travelled down to the shirt that was clinging onto Yuri's upper body, "Change into dry clothes,"

"You'll get sick," Jessica stated, leaning over and grabbing one luggage bag Yuri managed to rescue, ping the black bag and pulling out an oversized shirt and some baggy sweatpants, "Here,"

As Jessica turned around, she saw Yuri struggling to take off her clothes with one arm.

Standing up, Jessica touched Yuri's waist, "Let me help," she mumbled, carefully pulling the wet shirt off of Yuri's body, cautious not to hit Yuri's injured arm. Looking at Yuri's left arm, she saw the bruises all over the tan skin.

In the moon light, Jessica didn't seem as annoying as she did to Yuri in the daylight.

Jessica attentively helped Yuri out of her jeans and felt the girl shiver as a breeze blew by them. Helping the girl into the new clothing, Yuri couldn't help but hiss as Jessica accidently pressed against her arm.

"Oops, sorry," she quickly muttered, fixing Yuri's shirt before sitting back down, leaning against a rock. Yuri sat next to her.

"We're stuck on this island for now," Yuri spoke, still tensed from the earlier situation, "And we're the only ones alive," Jessica's eyes scanned over the sea that was being illuminated by the bright moon, Yuri continued, "And if we want to make it out alive, we have to work together,"

"I know that," Jessica stated.

"And for that to happen, you need to not act like you did in the airport,"

Taken aback, Jessica raised an eyebrow, "Pardon?"

Yuri stared into Jessica's eyes, "Don't be so spoilt,"

Scoffing, Jessica stood up slowly, "What?"

"Don't be a drama queen either,"

Walking away, Jessica clenched her jaw, finding a new spot to sit down, away from Yuri.

"I can survive without you," Jessica muttered bitterly, overwhelmed at the sudden rudeness.

Yuri sighed and shook her head.

Jessica, who had grown up being spoilt and bratty, didn't see what was wrong with her.

She didn't see that being with Yuri could be the line between life and death.

Yuri shook her head, her voice loud enough for Jessica to hear, "Let's just wait and see how long it takes for your daddy to come and rescue us,"
