Foreword
"I've had enough of you." Words dropped from my lips like ice as I faced him. The warmth between us had now chilled to ice. I had a feeling it would soon become fire.
"Come on, baby, it's only one mistake-"
"One mistake? ONE MISTAKE? How many times do I have to remind you of your previous mistakes? Get out."
"What?"
"Get out." I pointed a non-trembling finger. "Out."
"You'll be sorry," his lips hissed. His arm was raised. "Imma hit you b-"
I grabbed his arm. "Think again," I said in a steady voice. "You've already hit me too many times." I shoved him in the direction of the door as his eyes flew open in shock.
"You-" he snarled as he got up.
I spread my legs out, bracing for impact as I crossed my arms. Instead he shook his head and scrambled out of the door.
I quickly went to lock the door and collapsed on it with a sigh of relief. As I lifted my arm to check the time, I flinched. Bruises from yesterday appeared as my sleeve rolled down. I rolled down my sleeve with a sigh, and got up. Today, I thought, is the day I will start to heal.
