Baekhyun’s wound healed immediately but the poison from the cut seeped into his blood. He sent a spear made of light through the chest of the Shadow, where its heart would have been if it had one. The Shadow disintegrated and seeped back into the darkness. Baekhyun turned back to check if Hae Ri was alright. Hae Ri backed away from him. He cursed inwardly as he realised he had revealed his identity. 

"A vampire..." she muttered in awe.

It was not the reaction he had expected. There was a reason why he had kept his identity hidden from humans. The reason was simple. The humans would not accept having other supernatural beings living among them. Their treatment of people who have magical powers was testament to that. But he did not know that Hae Ri was not like those narrow-minded people. To these people, magic was sorcery but in the environment Hae Ri was brought up, magic was useful. Magic was fascinating. She had always hoped to meet a supernatural being. But now was not the time to get to know each other better.

A similar being emerged from the darkness and Hae Ri threw her dagger at it. Her dagger punctured the joint connecting the Shadow's arm and shoulder. Its arm fell off, melting into the darkness as the dagger went clattering onto the ground. However, within seconds, a new arm grew back.

“What…”

Chanyeol felt his necklace burning up. Hae Ri was in danger.

“Hey Lu-Ge, I’m sorry, I just remembered my parents wanted to talk to me about something. I’ll talk to you another time,” Chanyeol said hastily before he made his way out of the room. He touched the necklace and he could see Hae Ri in his mind’s eye. Darkness. Banyan Tree. He rushed towards the garden.

Hae Ri knew that she was losing too much blood as her vision blurred. She stumbled a little and Baekhyun immediately used a large part of his remaining energy to build a light shield around her. Baekhyun single-handedly fought the remaining Shadows for awhile but soon he was feeling the exhaustion and the effects of poison in his system. The light shield he had formed around Hae Ri disappeared and the Shadows eagerly stepped forward, ready to get rid of Hae Ri. At this moment, a ring of fire surrounded Hae Ri and Baekhyun, threatening to burn any Shadows to crisp if they dared to come any closer. Hae Ri glanced up to see Chanyeol’s worried face, a distance away.

“You’re late,” she joked and started coughing. Her face was pale from the loss of blood and her figure was slouched.

“What is going on here?” Lu Han questioned when he saw the scene before him.

“These things just keep on coming. Careful, their claws are poisonous!” Baekhyun cried.

There was no time to talk. The Shadows which were held back for a moment due to the fire continued to move closer towards Hae Ri. Hae Ri made use of the little time they had to share what she had observed,

“These are shadows! They must have something controlling them. Seek out the presence of the one controlling it!”

Chanyeol looked at Lu Han and Lu Han nodded. Chanyeol made the fire ring stronger, burning the Shadows which tried to cross over. He noticed that the Shadows were not attacking him and Lu Han and he thought that it was strange. Baekhyun stood protectively in front of Hae Ri who was slowly losing her consciousness. Shadows are formed when light is obstructed by an object. Though the Shadows they were facing seemed to be solid, they were actually decoys. The moment they were destroyed, they will fade back into darkness, nothingness and then return again. This was what Hae Ri had gathered from their fight. However, there was nothing fake with the attacks that they can inflict. They had to seek out the one with the real solid presence. Get rid of him and they will all be gone.

Lu Han closed his eyes and concentrated. He could not rely on his strong sense of smell. Shadows have no scent. He concentrated on tracking down the Shadow with a presence. In his mind’s eye, he could see the bright fuzzy image of the energies of Hae Ri, Baekhyun, Chanyeol as well as the trees around them. The area where the Shadows were congregating at was a black mass of nothingness except for a figure which was standing at the outer circumference of the group. Lu Han focused on that figure and concentrated with all his might, using his telekinesis to tear the figure apart. Immediately, the Shadows disappeared and the Shadow who had been the Control turned into ashes.

Lu Han fell to the ground. It had been such a long time since he had done something like that. Hae Ri finally lost her consciousness and Baekhyun caught her before she could fall to the ground. He stumbled a little as he too was very weak. Chanyeol immediately rushed towards Hae Ri. Lu Han slowly picked himself up and followed after Chanyeol. Chanyeol anxiously took Hae Ri from Baekhyun’s arms and carried her towards the Banyan Tree. He placed her palm on the trunk of the tree, forming a connection. The energy of the tree seeped into Hae Ri’s core and rejuvenated her. She awoke from her unconscious state but she was still very weak. Due to the poison, her wounds would not clot and blood kept flowing out of her wounds. Baekhyun and Lu Han fought back their hunger, their bloodlust.

“She’s losing too much blood, we need to get her to the hospital,” Chanyeol cried.

“No, there is poison in her blood, we need to bring her to a healer,” Baekhyun replied, sounding calm even though deep down inside he was going crazy. He could not let anything happen to Hae Ri. Never.
