The newly wedded couple walked into the pet shelter hand in hand. They were smiling blissfully as they enjoyed each other's presence and talking about everything. Nadine squealed as she saw the adorable animals all around. She dragged Luhan over to see the poor abandoned pets closer. Luhan smiled adoringly as he watched his new wife awing over the animals, even though some were physically hurt. He thought she looked adorable when she got all excited.

"They're all so cute, I want all of them!" she exclaimed.

Luhan smiled. "I'll get you everything soon. But just for the record, I think you're the cutest thing here." Nadine blushed and looked away shyly.

"What kind of pet are you two wanting to adopt?" a kind worker named Xiumin said as he approached the couple.

"A puppy," the couple replied in unison. The worker laughed. He could already tell that these two were meant for each other.

"I'll be at your assistance as you choose one that you like. Feel free to ask me anything. I happen to be the puppy expert here." Xiumin gave one last kind smile before leaving the couple on their own.

They walked around the little puppy area and interacted with the adorable little beings. They petted all the puppies, fed them treats, and got to hold them. The two made sure to be extra careful because they were aware that every puppy here has some sort of physical or mental scars.

With all these adorable puppies, Luhan was wondering how they would finally choose. He looked around and thought, I wish I can save all these poor puppies. Nadine had the same thought.

He felt Nadine's hand slip out of his and looked up to see his wife making her way to two white puppies near the wall of the shelter. The two puppies seemed to cower away from her when she tried to pet them, causing Nadine to hurt a little inside. Her head dropped as she slowly walked back to her husband.

"I don't think they like me," she said with a sad voice. Luhan looked at her with sympathy and her hair softly.

"They're just scared of people in general," a voice said behind them. It was Xiumin.

"Something happened to them, huh?" Luhan gently asked.

Xiumin nodded. "Although they don't have the same mothers, they were raised in the same house. Their owner, which was a young girl of age ten, had a father that was abusive to the entire family. Whenever she would get hit, these two would always try to stop the father from hitting her. They were very loyal. That led them to getting severely hurt themselves, and the poor girl couldn't see them getting hurt for her anymore. She begged us to take the two dogs and give them to a family with no physical abusers. Poor girl, I hope she's okay on her own now."

The couple nodded in understanding. Nadine's heart for the two grew bigger, and she knew that she wanted to be their new owner. She wanted to be the one to break their uncomfortableness with Luhan.

"Would it be hard breaking their shell?" Nadine asked.

Xiumin walked over and easily picked up one of the puppies. The puppy seemed to willingly climb into his arms, unlike how he originally cowered away from Nadine's touch. Nadine's mouth dropped when she saw that the puppy was actually enjoying the embrace.

"Not at all. You just need to be very gentle with them. They'll grow fond of you in no time. I've been assigned to these two for a week now, and they learned to not be afraid of me by a day or so. I can tell that they're going to stop being afraid of you in no time. I'm sure you're a gentle person, I can tell," the worker said to her.

Xiumin gently transfered the puppy from his arms to hers. The puppy seemed to squirm and tremble in fear. To tell the little puppy that she wasn't going to do any harm, she gently the little puppy's head. Little by little, the puppy's body stopped moving and was calm.

Luhan smiled as he saw his wife getting the puppy's trust in such a short time.
