It was late when Jinki collapsed into bed, turning on the television to watch the 11 o’clock news. He’d missed seeing the news at night for a while and was happy to get the chance to lay comfortably and watch.

The news reporter was reading breaking news report, causing Jinki to sit up and pay more attention.

“Murderer on the loose… believed to be armed and dangerous hiding in the vicinity.” Everyone was being warned to remain alert and lock all doors and windows before going to sleep.

Jinki shuddered, turning the television off quickly. He snuggled under his blankets and was almost asleep when a noise from downstairs startled him.

At first he passed it off as his brain playing tricks, but when the noise came again, he could no longer pretend it was anything other than what it was.

Knowing that he was alone, Jinki was shaken as the sound of footfalls met his ears.

There was an intruder in his house.

Terrified, he climbed out of bed quickly and quietly, tip toeing his way to the open window. He had to move quickly, the footsteps getting closer and closer and sounding like more than one pair.

Hoping that he was being quiet enough to get away without being caught, Jinki slipped out the window shaking with fear.

Lowering himself down the drainpipe and dropping onto the yard, he let out a sigh of relief when he saw the bedroom lights click on.

Someone screamed from above him, a horrible sound that made Jinki startle before he took off running. He could only hope they weren’t going to come after him. Chills ran down his spine as he thought of what could happen if they caught him.

Pushing through the darkness, he ran until he reached a street a few blocks over.

Clutching his knife tightly in his hand, Jinki smiled before heading towards another house.'
