Paper bag
Salient LoveThe whole class was restless throughout the lesson, and Teacher Lee accidentally snapped 3 pencils out of frustration when she was writing english words for us. The atmosphere was so tense, it was suffocating.
When the bell rang, it was a relief for everyone.
Teacher Lee didn't even wait for anybody to ask her questions or say bye to her, and just left the class hurriedly, her brows furrowed deeply. She must have been terribly humiliated and upset, probably even more than how she made millions of students feel.
I almost pitied her.
Almost.
I stretched and yawned. The sleepiness had faded away slightly since I ate some sweets in class, giving me a small boost of energy.
I started going through the project guidelines she gave me, so I could get a rough idea how difficult the project would be.
My finger ran down the instructions pages, my eyes following every word.
I frowned. We had to write a report and make a poster or something about English history and literature.. Sounds boring.
My finger and gaze then paused at the part of the paper where mine and Luhan's name were scribbled down messily, together with our index numbers and class.
I bit my lip. To be honest, I was very worried about Luhan being my partner, since I didn't know him and what if he was the kind which ditched responsibility and pushed everything to me? What if he is a total jerk outside of school?!
I shook my head, what was I thinking? I had no right to judge him if I didn't know him well. Maybe he is the kind that finishes everything for me! That would be great. But I highly doubted that.
But through all that, a small part of me still felt oddly excited to be partnered with him. Maybe it was because I am really curious about the ice prince.
Speaking of which, I realised Luhan wasn't back yet. He had disappeared throughout the whole English lesson. I wonder where he has gone to..
".. Daehee?" Sooyoung tapped my shoulder.
I blinked, broken from my thoughts.
"Yeah?" I replied, and started to file the project papers.
"Are you mad at me?" She asked unsurely, biting her lip.
I frowned as I dumped my file back into my bag and turned my full attention to her, "No? What makes you say that?"
"Because I sorta got you in trouble... And I already had a partner.. Leaving you alone.. IM SORRY!" She squeezed her eyes shut, like she was waiting for me to slap her or something.
I giggled at her constipated face. Her cute little face was scrunched up together, making her look like a little bear.
She opened one eye at the sound of my laughter, looking dumbfounded.
"You're not angry? But you looked so angry just now," She asked carefully, opening both eyes.
I shook my head, smiling. "Nah of course not. I was angry, but at Teacher Lee, not you! She's so irritating and rude!" I scoffed.
Sooyoung smiled and hugged me. "I knew you loved me too much to be angry at me!" I rolled my eyes, but didn't deny it.
"Besides, I know you prefer having a certain someone else as your partner, eh?" She said cheekily as she patted my back.
I broke the embrace and glared at her.
Moment ruined.
After math and history lesson, it was lunch.
Luhan still has not returned to class.
Did he get caught by the principal for wandering around the halls? Hopefully not.
As me and Sooyoung made our way towards the cafeteria, I couldn't help but look around for him.
Even after we sat down inside the cafeteria and started eating, he was still nowhere to be seen. I frowned. He skipped lunch again. Sooyoung wasn't kidding when she said that he never came down for food. And I started to feel a teensy bit worried, since he has been gone for 3 lessons and also lunch.
"Yah why the worried face?" Sooyoung poked me. "Worried for your 'partner'?" She wriggled her eyebrows suggestively.
I punched her shoulder, causing her to pout at me.
"No! But I am worried for him, as a CLASSMATE-" I emphasised, "since he has been gone for quite long. What if something happened to him?"
"Ah he should be fine! I mean, the school is a pretty safe place. Maybe he ditched? He seemed really irritated and tired this morning," Sooyoung shrugged and went back to eating.
"Can't be. He left his bag and stuff in class.." I murmured to myself.
"I.. Uh, need to go find Teacher Seo. I have a question for her about the mock test she emailed me," I lied to Sooyoung.
She didn't seem suspicious and just smiled, going back to eating.
I quickly gobbled up my sandwich and returned my lunch tray.
I looked behind to see Sooyoung engrossed with her phone. Probably some cute guy texted her.
After hurriedly buying an apple and a packet of milk in a paper bag again, I jogged off, making sure Sooyoung didn't see me.
I walked quickly back into the classroom, and carefully looked around inside.
Nobody was back yet.
I heaved a sigh of relief, but frowned slightly when I realised Luhan, too, wasn't back.
I quickly went towards Luhan's table, and tried to stuff the bag under the table but the paper bag didn't fit. I bit my lip, suddenly panicking.
Aha! His bag! I snapped my fingers.
I picked up his bag, zipped it open and placed the paper bag inside. I raised a brow, realising his bag was almost totally empty.
I heard some chattering nearby so I hurriedly zipped his bag close without further thought and placed it on his chair.
I straightened my skirt and walked out of the classroom coolly, trying to look unsuspicious as a group of students walked by. I smiled to myself as I skipped back to the cafeteria to meet Sooyoung.
Lunch ended and everybody filed back into class, chattering and laughing loudly.
As Sooyoung and I stepped into the classroom, talking about some pretty shorts on sale, I noticed Luhan back in his seat, and like usual he had his headphones on. Instead of his usual blank eyes, he seemed very deep in thought. I wondered what happened during the 4 hours he went missing for.
Some students were obviously talking and discussing about him, since they turned to look at him once in a while before they went back to their gossiping, and I heard Jihyun, my classmate that I didn't really like due to her sometimes y attitude, purr, " he's so badass, I like that."
I rolled my eyes and walked to my seat, and Sooyoung was texting someone again, totally disregarding the conversation we had before.
I decided to not disturb her and get ready for class.
I peeked under my table and pulled out a notebook to take notes for the lesson, when an empty paper bag fell out together and gently floated onto the floor.
I blinked, and picked it up carefully. Why is there a paper ba-
My eyes widened and I spun my head around, facing Luhan.
His bag was slightly open and it was on the floor instead of on the chair like I left it. And I remembered zipping it close fully.
I then looked up at him, as he stared out of the window, with the light from the window highlighting his features, giving him an angelic glow; soft gold glaced his countenance.
I had to admit, he looked really good.
I couldn't turn away, my eyes continuing to trace his features.
He suddenly turned, probably feeling someone's eyes on him and he locked gazes with me.
I didn't know why, but I did 't look away yet. He didn't either.
We were both curiously gazing at each other. The whole classroom faded away for a second, and I could only see him.
I looked down slightly at his mouth, and noticed a small spot of milk at the corner of his lips, before looking back at him with question in my eyes.
Luhan glanced at the empty paper bag in my hand then back at me.
I blinked as we both looked back at each other at the same time. Did he..?
He cleared his throat awkwardly, and broke eye contact.
The little world we were in shattered, as he looked back out of the window again.
I shifted back in my seat, facing the front once again.
I couldn't help but let a ghost of a smile play on my lips.
