Salient Love
Blue eyes.
Those blue, bright and piercing eyes, staring right through my soul.
Piercing through my very being.
Unravelling everything.
Its eyes, it seemed to have so much depth,
Those eyes portrayed innocence, laced with malice.
Laced with detest.
Laced with pain.
"Daehee..." The beast whispered my name,
The way my name rolled of its tongue disgusted yet enticed me.
I swallowed and looked at it.
"Your sister.. She's dead." It mocked me, its tone icy cold.
Everything started spinning.
I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe.
Chains shot out of nowhere, and wrapped around me, slamming me against a wall where it trapped me.
"You'll never escape this haunting lullaby," it whispered.
I sat up abruptly, gasping.
What just happened?
"Daehee! Calm down! It was just a bad dream!"
I blinked and slowly took in my surroundings.
White walls, white floors. Air smelling like medicine and sanitizer.
"You are in the hospital. Don't you remember what happened?" My dad looked at me, his face concerned and lethargic.
"B-but i thought you said everything was a bad dream?" I whispered in denial.
My fingers clenching tightly around the bed sheet.
Then a sharp pain shot through my arm, and I quickly loosened my grasp.
I took a look at my shoulder and arm that caused my that sudden pain, and realised that it was bandaged, and a IV tube was stuck into me.
Reality started to crash on me.
My sister.
The beast.
The blood.
The pain.
The beast's claws came rushing down, ready to rip our hearts out.
I waited for my inevitable demise and screwed my eyes shut.
I waited.
And waited.
But all I felt was the coolness of the forest.
I slowly opened my eyes,
afraid that the beast was there.
But it was gone.
Then I out.
I knew it was too realistic to be a dream.
And it being a dream was too good to be true.
I swallowed and looked down, remembering everything.
"So, what.. What happened to Minhee?" I whispered, afraid to know the answer.
"She survived, fortunately. But she.. She's in a coma. We don't know when she's gonna wake. The doctor said you were fine, and your injuries were mainly superficial. You have been sleeping for a day, " My father answered curtly, which meant he was trying to push back his feelings, and he didn't want me to feel worse than I already did.
His eyes were bloodshot, and i could see he had been crying.
He closed his eyes, and it hurt me to see him suddenly break in front of me.
"Why did you scare me like that Daehee? It was enough Minhee was in danger.. If both of you.. " He stopped, bit his lip and walked out.
My father never liked to cry in front of anybody, not even us or his wife.
I waited.
I waited for pain and sadness to wash over me, over the fact i made my dad cry and anxious for so long.
The fact that my sister is now in a coma, maybe never to wake up.
The fact that we almost died.
The fact that everything that just happened, happened.
But i felt nothing.
I was numb. Numb with pain and shock. Numb from everything that happened.
It felt surreal. I kept thinking that once i fall back asleep, i will awake in my bed, with Mr Snuggles by my side.
The alarm clock will ring, then I will go to school. Yeah. That was what happened.
I nodded and closed my eyes, falling back into slumber.
But obviously that's just my wishful thinking.
- one week later -
"Bye dad, I'm going to visit Minhee in the hospital. Want to follow along?"
I saw my dad's eyes brighten up, then they turned glassy.
"No.." He whispered, before getting up and walking into his room.
The door clicked shut.
I sighed. He needed more time to accept that Minhee was in a coma.
He kept blaming himself for what happened.
If only he locked the door.
If only he read the bedtime story to her, so she would not run out.
But to be honest, i did blame someone for all this.
It wasn't my dad.
It was myself.
If i could have reached her maybe a few minutes earlier... Maybe..
I quickly wiped the tear that escaped, and walked out, looking confident, trying to look strong. I slung my bag over my left shoulder, careful not to hurt my right, where it was bandaged.
As the bus skated down the roads, i lay my head on the window.
The bus was pretty deserted, the way i like it. I could think.
After i gotten over the shock,
I still felt withered and numb.
After i was discharged, i already visited Minhee, told her stories,
Cried by her side, fell asleep at her side.
I remember that I saw a familiar hand place a jacket over me, thinking i was asleep.
I heard soft sobs before the man left.
Dad.. Don't be so hard on yourself. It wasn't your fault..
But later on the police came to ask me, what i seen, what i heard.
I told them about the little girl i found in the forest that i mistaken as Minhee, and they said they already found her quite a while back and the family is organising her funeral.
I told them it was a large beast. It looked like a giant wolf.
But i kept the part of the blue eyes to myself.
I don't know why.
I started to cry again, as i watched rain droplets race down the bus window.
Maybe the numbness faded.

This chapter would be more boring, as it explains and says more, instead of more action. So yeah.
