Final slice
Salient Love
I plummeted into the forest, every trunk looking menacing, like an arm reaching out of the depths, ready to reel me in.
The night glared at me, the clouds, laced with poison, mocking me.
"Minhee! MINHEE!" I screamed, my lungs almost bursting from sprinting and screaming for a while now.
Twigs and branches like blades, slashing me as i rush past.
The trees hovering above were laughing at me.
Everywhere was dark, foggy.
I can't see.
I can't hear.
I can't.
I shrieked in desperation and fell onto the ground.
I can't continue. I can't breathe.
Every part of me hurts.
My legs.
My lungs.
My heart.
I gulped and panted. All i can do now is hope my chase was worth for nothing and all Minhee did was went to the supermarket for a midnight ice cream.
A tear fell, as i dusted my shorts and got up.
Something told me she did not went to the super market.
And my gut was right.
What i felt right then can't be penned down.
That moment, just as I turned around,
I saw this lifeless body, lying behind a tree.
I could literally feel all life being out of me, my heart withering.
I think I could have died there.
"Minhee? MINHEE!" I screamed again, not afraid of waking any beast up.
I ran towards the corpse- no, the body.
The still alive body, right ?!
"Minhee ah.." I sobbed as I squatted beside the body. She is fine right ?
She is just resting ? Just injured ?
With shaky fingers,
I gently moved her, to look at her.
Her clothes were soaked with blood, torn and slashed.
A large, petrifying slash made by animal claws lay over her stomach.
There were scratches everywhere.
Blood everywhere.
Her arm was gone.
I looked at her face.
It was one contorted into grotesque,
But it wasn't Minhee.
My eyes widened. That wasn't Minhee! My mind started whirling.
She might still be around!
I moved my hand over the girl's eyes, and whispered a prayer.
I squeezed her hand once,
"I'll notify your family or friends, i'll be back" i whispered out of respect to her.
Then i ran off as fast as my legs could took me,
My feet pounding against twigs and leaves.
Minhee could be alive.
She could be around here.
She could be saved.
She must be.
A small ray of hope opened in my heart as I started running again.
Minhee please be alive. Don't leave me..
"Minhee!" I shouted breathlessly. I was running out of steam.
I turned and ran into another direction.
"MINH-"
Every part of me just halted. I think i died again, if it was possible.
I gulped.
There she was.
Lying motionlessly on the ground.
This humongous beast, with teeth like swords, jutting out of its black lips.
With fur the colour of the dark menacing night,
it stood hovering over Minhee.
It's arm raised, claws unsheathed, ready to rip the life out of Minhee.
The world slowed down, just like the movies.
I did not know what got into me.
Everything was whirling. I had to act fast.
"MINHEE" I screamed, my voice echoing everywhere.
The giant beast's ear twitched, its eyes widened, and in a nanosecond it charged towards me,
Probably spotting a larger meal than Minhee.
It pounced, ready to squash me and eat me,
But I managed to slide behind a tree at the final nanosecond, its claw scratching my arm. I winced.
My slide behind the tree caused the beast to collide onto the tree trunk.
The tree creaked and threatened to topple.
That beast was scarily heavy and strong and so fast. It charged all the way to me in less than a second.
I quickly dashed away, onto Minhee's side, just as the tree started to sway forward.
The beast got up, its eyes burning blue fire.
It growled ferociously and I hugged Minhee's bloodied and motionless body to me. I gulped as my eyes widened.
I swear, I could see my death so close to me. Inches away.
The grim reaper ready to reel me and minhee away.
My brain was about to burst, everything was happening so fast I can't process anything-
' BAM '
The tree toppled over the beast the last freaking second it got ready to pounce.
I inhaled a sharp breath.
Was it dead? The 60m tree should have squashed its every bone. I craned my neck towards it.
Seeing it lie motionless below the tree, I exhaled.
"Min-"
And it that nano that i had turned to check on Minhee,
The beast's eyes sprang open, its eyes burning blue flames as it charged right out from under that tree.
I felt hot air, and heard growling, as I gingerly turned my head.
Its snout an inch away from my lips. My breath caught.
It was staring right into me, its blue eyes were an abyss that pierced right through my soul.
Its eyes. They enticed every fibre of me.
I gulped, I couldn't move. I stared right back.
What's ing wrong with me?!
It growled, and showed its petrifying fangs, its arm raised every so slowly.
Its sharp claws ready to end everything.
It was toying with me, making me suffer, making every painful moment as dragged, as prolonged, as insufferable as possible.
That seemed a little too saddistic, even for a beast.
It being so close to me.
I knew innately it was the end.
I hugged Minhee tight and looked away from the formidable's beast's eyes.
My whole body was wrapped around Minhee.
Maybe if i didn't survive, she could.
The beast came even nearer, and my breath caught.
It placed its claws on my shoulder roughly, and slowly teared my flesh downwards.
I started to hyperventilate. It hurt so bad. i could feel warm blood trickling down my arm
The beast ; Something was wrong with this beast! It's saddistic!
But suddenly, it retracted its claws and stepped away.
I turned to look at my shoulder , and looked at its eyes.
It looked human, for a nanosecond.
Then i could hear the slicing of air as its claws came slashing down towards me.
