Brisk appearances
Salient LoveI stopped outside my sister's ward door.
I quickly wiped my eyes and tried to plaster a huge sunny smile on my face as i looked at my lethargic reflection on the ward window.
Maybe if i seemed happy, she would be excited and wake up.
I studied my reflection.
My eyes were bloodshot, but at least I was smiling.
Right ..? I sighed.
Who was I kidding ? I still looked like a zombie.
Then it appeared.
It happened so fast, i almost didn't believe it myself.
A bright flash of blue.
Bright blue eyes.
Staring right at me through my reflection on the ward's window.
My eyes widened and I quickly whipped around, so fast that my shoulder hurt.
Nobody. Nothing.
I looked back into the window, but the blue eyes were gone.
Gone as fast as it came.
I looked behind again, then back at the window. It wasn't there.
It must be my imagination right ? I haven't been sleeping well. I shook my head.
How could the beastly wolf enter a hospital without being noticed ?
Unless it had a disguise.
I slapped my cheeks. What the hell am I thinking about? I need to sleep gosh.
As i sat down and held my sister's cold but alive hand,
Telling her some stories, hoping she would hear them and wake up,
I couldn't help but think about the eyes i just saw. Those wintry and dark eyes.
It seemed so real.
I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I groaned and shifted my position. My back ached.
"Miss, wake up. Visiting hours are long over. Hurry home, it's late," a soft voice spoke.
I gingerly stood up, as i yawned and stretched.
I looked at my phone. Wow its already midnight.
And oops i forgot. I had tons of calls and messages to reply.
I think everybody thought I died or something, being missing for two weeks.
"I must have fell asleep beside my sister.. I'm sorry" I apologised
The nurse smiled and shook her head.
I forced a smile, quickly gathered my items and left the ward.
I forgot to wish my sister goodnight, but was too embarrassed to walk back in.
I slowly strolled down the streets,
Little thoughts dancing around my mind.
I wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings,
Then suddenly, someone bumped into me.
Right onto my left shoulder.
I winced and fell to the ground. I swear I felt my skin tear open again.
I gingerly placed my right hand over my shoulder and bit my lip.
I looked up, ready to bash the person who bumped into me.
"Oh lookie here.. A little girl fell down when I bumped into her!" A drunk guy slurred. His friends snickered beside him.
I started to get up, ready to walk away and ignore him when he pushed me right down again and i landed right on my left shoulder. AGAIN.
I screamed and scrambled into a sitting position. That hurt so bad !
"Shut up ! Bumped into ya so softly! Stop your dramas!" He hissed.
"Im not being dramatic! I just got discharged from the hospital. Leave me alone," I said, trying to sound strong but i probably sounded like a cornered mouse.
I got up and started to walk away when he grabbed my left arm again.
Why does he always grab my left?!
"Yah who do you think you are? Walking away like that-" he pulled me close to his face, "- girls like you need to be taught a lesson," he whispered menacingly, his breath reeking of alcohol.
He roughly pushed me and nodded at his gang friends.
They started to close in on me.
I backed away.
And my back hit a wall.
Why do I keep on bumping into such insane situations ?! I didn't even really offend him! Ugh. I will never get drunk for as long as I can help it.
I think i have a century of bad luck or something.
"Come on girl," one of them hissed and reached out to grab me.
My eyes widened in fear, I was cornered.
Just as his fingers grazed my arm,
Someone shot in front of me, grabbed his hand, and twisted it. Hard.
I think i heard bone cracking. And the person in front of me still seemed to be tightening his grasp around that gangster guy's hand - his fist sounded like it was crumbling into pieces.
The gang guy started to whimper, and fell onto his knees, making little cat noises.
His friends started to back away and ran off without him.
My saviour released his grasp, and the man scampered away with his tail in between his legs.
This mysterious hero then bent down, picked up my bag for me, and carefully hung it on my right shoulder. How did he know.
I looked up at his face.
He looked like an angel.
He had strong, but feminine features.
And his blond hair made him looked like a model.
But what caught me was his eyes.
They looked so dark and alluring, yet so familiar.
I opened my mouth to say thank you, but he just spun around and walked away.
"H-hey! Thank you!" I shouted after him, and I went to chase after him.
I had to give him proper thanks, since he practically saved my life.
He turned around a corner and I quickly ran around it too.
But he was gone, as fast as he arrived.
I sighed and adjusted my bag strap, and continued walking home.
The night fell silent as my footsteps padded on the pavement.
I couldn't help but feel as if someone was watching me.
Watching my every step and move.
The feeling went away as soon as I entered into the safety of my house,
and locked the door.
